No need to thank me. They were a thank you gift to you. We are all really excited about your return. You will do great. Enjoy the ride too. We will be.

Oh lord, i read that as

Jazz, thank you for the latest and ALL of them! The effort everybody has put in has been really awesome. I have several Interviews lined up with Radio Magazines and Talk Shows, so I have been a pretty busy guy as well.

Again, I guess this is the final push and to be honest I think it will be a rest to sit down and JUST do the show.

I have said it before, if we start small it will suit me just fine, there is just one reason for me to do this and it is simple, FUN.

Art
You'll do fine Art. Correction, you will do great.

Every time I read this sentence, I get a tingle down my spine. :)

Here's big brand-new news: Hoagland will be interviewed live on Skywatcher's Radio DMDN.

Now -- in five minutes!

Exactly.  I don't like monopolies in any form.  Before you know it, you've got a bloated, self-important, self-serving bureaucracy.  Facebook is just another website.  Screw'em.

Hard to think of a website as having a monopoly but man, these guys do come close. They are still the most used site. Who is number two? Instagram. Who own's instagram? Facebook. They cover what, like half the internet user base.

I am going to listen to it.. At least might be a little bit more interesting since they apparently are going to take callers..

I thought that was happening. I'm no expert on FB but Art would be better off with a business page for the show and for himself as a public figure. They have different perimeters for those and Art can have as many followers as he can attract. You can't really do that with a personal page. Could they let him change his personal one and transfer his data to a new public figure page? That way his posts can show up in newsfeeds of anyone following his page and spread the word from there. There may be fewer problems with the identity issue.

He will probably have to get a business page but it sure does hinder his reach. Some folks say Facebook pulled the biggest bait-and-switch of all time by allowing companies big and small to develop their own communities and followings and then killing organic reach so that those companies are now forced to pay to have their posts seen on their followers walls. And they do pay.

Others say that it has to be that way and Facebook saved themselves in more ways than one by charging for this. 15 years ago everyone read every email they got. 5 years ago everyone read every tweet they got. Both of those mediums are diluted. Email so much so that nobody pays attention to a commercial message. If the Facebook feeds were showing companies that people like and follow then the feeds would have a lot more noise, the enjoyment a lot more diluted, and it would age and die.

But the practical upshot is that if Art has to get a biz page he's also going to have to pay to promote the posts.

I would imagine it has to be so very hard to talk to a human there. As a small company owner they came to me and called a few times. I finally returned a call. They said that if I agreed to spend a certain amount on advertising they would train me on how it all works and I'd have a dedicated account manager to talk to as long as I continued the spend. I agreed, but they overtaxed their system so even with that agreement I couldn't talk to anyone. I ended up just telling them to forget it. I did end up learning some stuff though at the start.

Just brilliant, Jaz! Perfect! Got me salivating a bit for Open Lines (my favorite). All of it's just great, the visuals, music, open lines bits, timing, everything, and especially the very end! I knew I remembered that voice from somewhere!

That's in the deleted scenes. You'll have to buy the Special Edition Blu Ray.

Lmao

He only thing i hate about talk radio is when callers call in saying they are long time listeners and the first words out of their mouth is am i on the air??  Can you hear me??

Art you should implement a new rule. Anyone who does that gets kicked off the air automatically.

"Hi Art, how are you?" Everyone asks, even though the caller directly before asked.  I wonder how many times Art has been asked that question in his career.  That's 4 seconds per caller. Let's say he hears it 30 times a night. At at 30x 5 nights a week, 50 weeks (vacations) for 20 years. If those guestimates hold true, Art would have been asked that 150,000 times and it would have wasted 10,000 minutes of air time. That's 166.66 hours of pleasentries.

...That being said, the first thing out of my mouth when I hear that static/cut to live will probably be, "Hi Art, how are you."

I read, think in Art of Talk, that Art's heart starts racing every single time before he goes on the air.  I imagine that's the same feeling that I get every time I've gotten when I've called and it actually rings.

If my girlfriend could make my heart race like that, I'd marry her  :)

Oh and Jaz, your promos are amazing. My piddly little attempt was good in concept, but failed to deliver.  I blame my choice of software, laregly. Windows Live movie maker is kinda weak-sauce.
Yep, bad radio people like Dave LOVE the obligatory "how are you?" "how you doing?" etc because it eats up air-time and allows him to reply which eats up air-time. My local AM guy, Jeff Ward has weaned callers off it over the many years by replying "do you care?" Than every so often if a caller says "yes" he will say "fine." Most callers/listeners have gotten the point. It wastes air time.

PrairieGhost

Hoag on DMDN right now is really good radio.

So JC is hiding in plain sight...... ;D

JC has a fb page under his full name - Jonathan Christian Webster.  Edna has one, too - Edna Pringle.

I believe he isn't around anymore and that whoever is calling in to Georje is a false J.C.
To think that J.C. would use a computer and facebook with the Devil's eye computer would be blasphemy.

Well poot!  Thanks for filling us in weeber.  If having to pay is the case then why should he get a biz page.

JC was obviously a character and the facebook page is more than likely a JC fan.

Most definitely. I remember a JC call circa late 90's where I could here people giggling in the background. Still darn entertaining though.

I loved the simplicity of this one and forgot all of the special lines Art had done.  Does Dave still do them at all?

Also, I caught the surprise immediately.  Are you trying to get him to quit before the 20th??? ;)

I think I've done my penance on that one. Also without the destruction of Dark Matter we wouldn't be getting Midnight in the Desert.

Yeah, fine... I suppose that you can present your "get out of purgatory free" card on the 20th.  Only after the first show is rolling will I be able to declare that the destruction of DM was worth it.

Quite honestly, this time around feels like nothing that has been done before.  There is something that feels so much better than it did with DM... I was excited back then, but was still quite reserved.  It was still corporate, still had rules, still had Art working for someone (still had a non-compete?)  I think that this time we all know that the end of the broadcasting of this program will be the end- but there may still be years that we can ride and I'm all set and buckled in.

With that said, I will continue to blame you for another 4 days, 23 hours and 4 minutes... You can find the countdown clock to your absolution here: http://artbell.com/

***Interestingly, the countdown to your vindication is posted directly to the right of your video... ;)
