It smells like sex in this thread.

Sex, frustration, an over abundance of time, and stale farts.

REALLY GREAT POST! BRAVO!!!!

Lester

R-E-L-A-X Mr. Art Bell has been in a self-destructive mode for well over a decade now.  The good news is that Mr. John B. Wells and Mr. George Knapp are great.  Wells and Knapp should receive all of our support and encouragement.  Bell will not return because he just can't put a return together.  I suggest you email Ms. Lisa, lisa@coasttocoastam.com, and tell her what you think about Noory.  I think Noory is a bore and reads from prepared text including show-prep from Matt Drudge.  I email Premiere Networks on a regular basis and tell them to fire Ms. Lisa who sold the show to "The company store" decades ago.  Who wants Bell back now after a dozen years?  Not me.  But I want Wells and Knapp!  GO Coast Gab... but focus now on getting Norry out and Wells/Knapp in while waiting and waiting and waiting for Art to return.  Personally I listen to the John Bachelor show and really like his WWII programs.   Why is goofy Ian still around  -- can't Ms. Lisa find anyone to fill his slot?  If Lisa and Noory go away then Coast will be great again if Wells and Knapp take over!

My most enduring memory of Art Bell and Coast To Coast A.M. was the night of September 11, 2001/morning of the 12th. I'm a psychiatric nurse and I was working overnights in a residential care facility (I loved that job) and I finally got ten minutes to myself at about 2 a.m. I took my little radio outside and sat in one of the chairs and watched the trains; the facility was right beside train tracks and while there was no air traffic for awhile back then, those trains ran all night long, folks. And for days following. Long flat cars with things covered with canvas sheets. In my frame of mind, everything looked like a covered missile.

They had at least a dozen railroad security guys with powerful flashlights just standing there, which is common when the cargo is sensitive in populated areas. One of the security guys walked over and said, "You need to get back inside, Lady."

"I work here, pal," I told him, "and I need some fresh air."

And then I started to cry, my first time that long long day, and I was furious at myself but I just couldn't help it.

The railroad guy sat down, pulled out a cigarette and said, "You listening to Coast To Coast?" I sniffled and said yes. He lit his cigarette and took a long pull; then we didn't talk.

We sat there for maybe eight minutes, just listening to Art Bell trying to make sense of the senseless. I got control of myself and kept watching the trains. We were two night owls sitting there with another one on the radio.

Pretty soon the security guy got up, patted me on the shoulder, and walked back to his post. I went back inside to deal with people that, I was now convinced, were not the truly insane on this crazy planet, and I left the radio outside, turned on, with Art's voice riding the airwaves.

I felt better, for a little while.

I'll never forget that.
What are you doing Chewmouse this post doesn't belong here it belongs in the... oh shit... that's right... it DOES BELONG HERE!! Thank you lil sqeeker!! You've reminded all of us of what we should really be talking about here.  I was actually in between coast phases when 911 happened.  I was on my way to work that morning hung over and late when I popped into a public bathroom at the mall by my job to do what you do in the bathroom.  I remember standing in front of a urinal and hearing two older guys talking.  I only caught a little bit of the conversation but left thinking "WTF?"  these guys were talking about a plane flying into a building.  My commute by bus and the shoe-leather express with no radio had me totally clueless.  Then I got to work where all of the techs in my office were huddled around a radio... I said "what the fuck is going on here we doing any work today?"  and then the response "you didn't hear what happened?"  right after I got my explanation for the weird convo at the pisser and lack of people working the second plane hit.  Never gonna forget it.

From Art Bell
Hello!

I would like to express my sorrow at the passing of Shirley. She
was a bright light for so very long here and such a great Fan, she
will be missed by all.

It might be a good moment for me to say I will NOT be returning
to Coast in any form. In fact I have requested that Premiere Radio
cease Broadcast of the Saturday "Somewhere in Time" shows. My
reasons for this are at this time private. However if they choose
not to do so (as is their right) I will make my reasons Public as is
my right.

I know it is a well worn phrase but, please stay tuned.

I know that everybody has different tastes (heck, there are people who think that Noory does a bang-up job.)  Have you toured the Wells thread lately?  I am not certain that you would find much support for replacing Noory with Wells.

In my estimation Wells ranks just one half of one notch lower than Noory.  I would actually sooner listen to Noory than Wells (at least that is what I say tonight- I reserve to swap the positions of the above mentioned hosts without notice.)

Hey Bell,

Why do you want to go and rock the boat?  The  "Somewhere in Time" shows are great, and we get to here some stuff that might not be anywhere else.  If you're not gonna be on the radio to entertain us, at least give us something.   YOU owe US!!!!

[/sarcasam]  lest anyone think I am serious.

Great post Chewmouse. That was a dark time. Great story

On the Fine Art stream, Art just called Mel Waters a "hole baron." Ha.
You'll never hear that from sNoory.

agree completely. (Wells vs Noory)

Art asking PR to discontinue the Somewhere In Time shows is a safe way for him to say "thanks for turning my creation into a giant steaming pile". Only occasionally do we find a peppercorn in shows hosted by Ian and Knapp and less often Rob Simone

I wonder if Bell has some media project in the works?  He has a pretty big ego and I'd bet that he'd like to get in one last word.  We'll see, I guess --  he's good at leaving people hanging -- which is damned good business.

It's pretty obvious now that he's so disgusted with what Coast has become he doesn't want to be associated with it and I don't blame him.  But he did take the money, didn't he?  That's the way it goes Art.  You make a deal with the devil and you pay out more than you get.

Some years ago, back in the mid-90s, Phil Hendrie was working at WIOD in Miami.  The station was rocking then -- they had Neil Rodgers still in his prime doing mornings and Phil in afternoon drive time, so it was must-listen radio every day.  Phil NEVER gave anything away about his role in the show (other than the host trying to facilitate angry callers with his "guests") back then, either.  He had people in apoplexy on a daily basis, including Dolphin LB Bryan Cox, the "angry young man" of the NFL inn the mid-90s who was trying to figure out if was going to kill Hendrie or just sue him for everything he had...

ANYWAY,  Hendrie would get into it with callers about who had more talent -- Him or Howard Stern?   Hendrie would say this about it:  "I have more talent in my little finger than Howard Stern does."  And he was right, of course.  Stern has this huge support entourage and Hendrie did what he did all by himself.

My point is the same thing goes for Art Bell vs George Noory.  He has more talent in his little fingernail than that lummox George Noory could ever have.   Did it all himself.  Produced, answered unscreened calls, read the books, booked the guests, conducted the interviews, tweaked the electronics and brought it all to the air on his own.    I don't even need to go into what passes for "talent" with George Noory.

So I figure what the hell.  If Bell wants to fuck around, so what?  He doesn't owe anyone anything.   He did his thing just about as good as you can do it.   And it's what he DID do in those years he was on the air is what matters as far as I'm concerned.  And it's why I still enjoy and appreciate a show from 1995 way more than I do just about anything that comes out of that corporate piece of shit that's PremRat Coast today.

Art is giving me radio blue-balls.  I'll still chase him around even if he is a teasing flirt, just because there is a chance...  there's always a chance...

Thanks for posting this, HAL.  I didn't know C2C existed back then, (didn't find out about it until 2008), so I always wondered if there was a show on 9/11, and how Art delivered the show.
I listened to it... very sad to go back to that time.  Art said the appropriate words, IMO.
On that show, Major Ed Dames phoned in and said he remote viewed a bunker in a tomb in Kandahar.  In that bunker, he viewed 2 individuals who hatched the plot.
Side topic, Art said he was cutting the show short because of his back.  The link ran for exactly 3 hours (it included bumper music, but no commercials) So, was that actually 4 hours of radio time?  Did he used to do a longer show?

Keep it up, bro.  You make an excellent job of it.  KUDOS!  :D

It is highly toxic to one's inner system.  Can't wait to see you implode in it.  8)   Bonne chance! as the French would say. 8)

Now go play in your sandbox, little boy.  You mommy will be with you soon.

Yes Art originally did 5 hours live every night Monday thru Friday and another live 3 hours on Sunday nights for Dreamland thruout the 90s.

Maybe Art is pissed because they got rid of Ross Mitchell?  Well "Somewhere.." is still on luckily.  I have almost 40 gigs now of classic Art bootlegs, but it's cool to hear something fresh every Saturday.

I don't get Somewhere in Time in the market I'm in, and I have gone through a ton of downloaded material to the point where I'm finding duplicates of shows I've found from other torrents. I am jonesing for some classic Coast I haven't discovered yet. Wells and Noory have turned the show into a dump.

Ahh, the memories. I was listening to Art right after he chose to go to a more "unconventional" format and long before anybody ever heard of him. That was in the 90`s and I was stationed in Coronado, CA in the Navy. I volunteered for mid-watch just to listen to Art`s show which would come waffling over the mountains on an AM station.

You just have to make an account and schedule it before the show starts (usually 6pm pacific Saturdays).
