Jump in the hot tub, Art. That really seems to help my back.

that's a bummer.  when back pain hits, you just don't feel like doing anything.

Art, I messed up my back too, hurts, but hopefully mine is temporary.

I was wondering if it is ok for you to talk tech with us, in the photo, what each device/box is and such, and how it is all done.  How do you sound isolate?  When I listened to Leo Laporte recently they got a downpour and you could hear it over the streamcast, but it sounded strange.  His studio is called the Brick House.  I love listening to his tech shows but I'm hungry for your upcoming show even more.

Those laptops look like they'd be difficult to type on sitting up high like that.  Why didn't you just build some desktop boxes and put them to the left or right side (a circle setup)?  In my humble opinion, dollar for dollar, a home brew desktop gives much more value in power/performance, stability, and repairability than a laptop, and if something breaks all you do is replace one thing and you don't have a hassle getting into the case for the repair.  I hate laptops, I have one, but I do almost everything on my new build desktop (well, partial new build).

Also, do you have lightning arresters and surge capacitors on your power panel and if so, what do you use?  And what backup power system do you use, do you have a generator and/or solar array/battery array?  Man if I lived in the desert (I used to) and owned a studio like that I'd definitely have a solar and wind farm!

Finally, Art, if I start a shortwave/HAM thread, would you be willing to discuss HAM hardware, methods, and such?  My dear BIL just got his license and we'd love to know about that stuff and how we can catch you (when do you come on for CQs).  I don't have a HAM but my BIL has gotten me really interested in it, so I'm at least extremely curious about the technology.

We have had some experience with back pain and have had success with ice and "Arnicare" Arnica cream. This has been so effective for my husband and I.  It is a homeopathic pain relief that actually seems to heal  (from our personal experience).  $7 at a health food store.   http://www.arnicare.com

Hope you feel better soon!

I'm glad you gave a perspective about back pain on the show a while back.  I feel like when people want to jump on the "quitter" sentiment regarding his back, they don't quite understand just how debilitating it can be.  I've never had a serious back issue before other than muscle spasms for a few days (which was pretty painful), so I can't even imagine suffering an injury like he did.

Yes, I think it was Sasquatch in his flying machine.

Art's new setup kind of reminds me of this ad I saw a while back and a comment someone made that your cell phone these days can do everything in this ad, and then some.  I'm sure his equipment can do everything his old stuff used to do and even more.

All of the pictures with all his equipment and ham radio stuff certainly looks a lot cooler, though.

Nice ad. Those were the days. Then they stopped selling radios and parts and became CellPhone Shed and went bankrupt. For nostalgia, the ARRL radio club put out a book for their 100th anniversary of ads from the past 100 years of their magazine . Wow! Good stuff.......(sigh) brings back memories

I actually went to a Radio Shack in town yesterday looking for some hookup wire, capacitors and molex connectors.  They had the most limited stock of that stuff and nothing I needed, but whole aisles of cell phone stuff and flash lights.

I remember when they actually had electronics equipment and components and now nobody in town does.

K...here's something weird. Best thing for a bad back? Extra Strength Pamprin. No really....my son said all the truck drivers swear by it. I didn't believe him either until I tried it. Totally works.

Might be worth a shot, Art.

I have escaped from where the Scorpion Army Commander has had me held in Tonopah, Nevada. I'm the former Los Angeles Substitute Teacher who simply wanted to communicate with Coast To Coast AM Listeners. Because I was talking sanity and perhaps some compromise with the fans of George Noory, and those who joined the show after, say 2003. They're nice people, a little New Age directed than this Science Teacher appreciates on the radio. But everyone has their tastes in radio! I'm worried, the Commander acts very obsessed, perhaps has OCD, he washes his hands all the time, and takes 3 to 4 showers a day. But I'm headed back to Los Angeles on a hitch-hiked ride going through the back route to Los Angeles. A LA businessman friend of J.C. Ex Edna is going to allow me to stay in a condo that he owns in of all places Santa Catalina Island! Perhaps there's no Scorpion Army operatives in Avalon. The Island is protected by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, I know they like George Noory a lot! I'll report in when I can! I hope Art's back gets better! I'd better get back on the road, as I know the Scorpion Army will be happy to get me back in Tonopah. That city needs better restaurants, my Diabetes really had a hard time with all of the excess fat and carbs! Talk to you all later!

I think Art had requested that everybody's treatment ideas stay to themselves as he knows what's best, but worth mentioning again probably.  I know everyone is trying to be helpful but it seemed like it frustrated him.
