I truly marvel at people, I say I will give you astounding audio in Stereo on the Internet, then many complain, oh but I will miss the crackle and fade of Am Radio, then I do a brief demonstration of one high power Shortwave station that covers the entire World with one signal and people say... And thats supposed to sound good? Jeez

Art

Again I can only speak for me but, shortwave, internet, am/fm, hell 2 cans and a string, it will be wonderful to just hear the show! Heck Art, I have listened to you on AM and FM, on the ground, while I was flying, on stingyness/xm, podcast, internet archive, youtube, I don't care how you air I will listen. If I need CD or HD quality thats what the 5$ a month for the podcast is for. Just get on the air/eather or anywhere from 500khz to 50 mhz.
This is getting exciting!

Hey guys here is a kick for you, remember I told you a 100,000 watt station wanted to carry the show? Well I called them tonight and said I can't hear it on 5.085. Well they said wait a moment and threw the switch and Paul recorded this!!

Art

Wow Art, and reverb too!  I tried 5.085 on my Kaito 1103 last night and heard not a thing, maybe "the switch" hadn't been thrown yet.  Now if only they could go to a million watts, I wanna hear this sucker in my fillings Gilligan style.

Can someone explain to me how this internet broadcast will work? So we pay $5.00 a month and that gives us access to the live broadcast? Is there anyway to get the broadcast if we can't listen live? Any way to download it? I'm just a little confused on the particulars. Thanks guys! :)

serenity

You would have to look at their schedule. They change frequencies during the day to get max coverage depending on season and propagation conditions. Some frequencies can't be heard at certain times of the day. Theres a whole science dedicated to propagation. Goto arrl.org or  do a bing search to learn more. I've been in Ham Radio for 50 years and it still drives me (more) nuts.

the live broadcast is free to all, probably on DMRN and others. the $5/month  gives access to all the podcasts. this is how i understand it .

Live feed is free. Podcast , archives etc are 5$ a month unless that changes in the future. The way I understand it anyway. I could be wrong.

BTW Love the Linux Tux! avatar.  Im on Ubuntu for my machine and server.

Yes serenity, the broadcast stations have different freqs. at different times and it's hard to keep track.  I like the exotic music you can find sometimes on foreign stations but there's not as many of them around now it seems.  Listening to the hams is fun, I heard Art one night a year ago on 10 meters briefly, what a thrill.

serenity

Just a dumb question but what's our fallback site? I was able to keep up Sat/Sun on twitter but I missed a lot

It's ufoship.com/chat for the IRC chat, just use your screen name to get in.  There are no dumb questions here either, only dumb posters who jump on people who ask what they judge to be "dumb questions".  :)

And so it begins.....!  :)

I personally love the thunderstorm noise associated with summer time 40 m cw. Throw in a little auroral flutter and I am in heaven.

Art could shout the show out his backdoor and I'd be happy.

However, whenever, or wherever... I am all in!

Same.  Two cans and a string would be fine, too, with the subscription.  I've got Dave's subscription covered, too.  I know he's probably stretched, with his cross-country travel expenses and saving up for Hawaii.  Not sure if PremRat will pick-up the tab for Magnum B.S.'s requisite Ferrari.

You say 'Podcast.' So does that mean we could download to play on our I-pod?

Yes. The way subscription RSS feeds work is that when you subscribe you'll have a username and password to the MitD site and you copy the RSS feed address and paste it into iTunes or Downcast, any podcatcher pretty much, and then you'll have to put in your username and password, same one for the site, in order to get access to the feed. That earlier comment about Zunes was just a joke.

Sorry for the run on sentence, but that's essentially how it should work.

From Keith:The Final Results, Art Bell IS Coming Back!
POSTED ON APRIL 14, 2015 IN BUMPER MUSIC, RADIO SHOW | 1 VIEW | LEAVE A RESPONSE
After extensive analysis and elongated negotiations with several suiters, we have decided that we can go ahead on the planned launch of “Midnight in the Desert” in late July, using a business model that will allow us to manage the entire operation on our own.

As was hinted by Art via his Facebook feed, we thought about it, compared the numbers and decided we could pay for bandwidth, pay the commercial licensing fees, pay our own overhead and still be financially viable, assuming the following conditions:

1. We have a considerable number of fans subscribe to a membership service that allows you to access the archived shows anytime via the website for a reasonable $5 / month.

2. We can sell advertising to be played during the breaks during the show. Not a lot, but enough to help pay for the music licensing during the LIVE FREE stream.

3. We can successfully curb pirated posts of our content to the Internet.

We’ll be operating under a certain specific licensing model that will allow us to ramp up from a “small webcaster” status into a large broadcaster in the future. It is imperitive that we earn enough through subscribers and ads sales to pay the bandwidth costs and music licensing fees. We believe that we can ramp up successfully using the current models in place at this time.

However, this happens to be the year (2015) that music industry participants are negotiating the next 5 years (2016-2020) rates for music licensing on the Internet. It is a wide open arena, and some license models may not survive. But we believe that we can operate under the current 2015 model for 6 months, and eventually fit into a 2016 model that is still cost effective.

We hope to recoup  all of our investments within the first 6 months, so we can better endure the cost increases that will inevitably happen in 2016. If the fans support us with memberships and the advertisers are satisfied, we should be good for a long while.

Keep watching here for the launch date announcement and further updates as we can pass along. We’ll let you know when it’s time to promote the show.

Nice.  Thanks.  Maybe they will run a mirror stream of the live show?  Personally I will be online and paying for archive/podcast privileges.  But another option is always good just in case.  My short wave radios are packed away in a closet.  May I will get them out and get 'em warmed up just in case.

Haha, no worries, my skin is fine I was just interested that people really are not for the most part at all sure of what they want. Also what was romantic for them a decade ago might just be something that irritates them now. I would keep that in mind for myself.

lol.  So OK then, all is good!  As someone else mentioned I'd use tin cans and string if that was all that was available.
And yah, you know we'd be hitting the whine after a few minutes listening to SW.  We are spoiled by the internet.

Hey guys, what gives with all the no votes in the poll here?  Are people that cheap they won't even support him with 5 bucks a month.  Jeese.

Super fans like on BellGab cannot be used as a representative sample of the demographic...most will want clean, clear audio...

Looks that way...I really liked the very clear audio from the Sirius DM shows...and the Skype calls sounded very good!
