I'm ready to rage through the night with my fellow BellGabbers!  8)

CONGRATULATIONS, ART!

I want to give Art my money. NOW. Let's do this!

aldousburbank

Paging (Redacted); I have nominated you for the position of Planning Czar for the first and only annual Midnight In The Desert Rat Roast And Scorpion Smokeout Invitational. If asked, we never talked about this. So let's meet up at the secret undisclosed porch to not talk about it some more soon.

I'm glad you're joking, because Majorette Dames was correct on roughly 0% of his predictions.  The classic being when he pulled up and moved to The Ukraine, declaring it to be one of the safest places in the world.

God, I hope we don't hear from him again

Heavens to Betsy, we're worlds apart. Major Ed was always fun with the wacky 'chicken-little' sky is falling, doom and gloom predictions. Hell's Bells Mr. Bell made a career out of interviewing and entertaining us with the likes of Major Ed and others of his kind.

On Art's new show I'd like to hear Major Ed again, making new predictions, without any explanations of off the mark past predictions. Smug Ed charging ahead with a new shtick!

From Keith:The Final Results, Art Bell IS Coming Back!
POSTED ON APRIL 14, 2015 IN BUMPER MUSIC, RADIO SHOW | 1 VIEW | LEAVE A RESPONSE
After extensive analysis and elongated negotiations with several suiters, we have decided that we can go ahead on the planned launch of “Midnight in the Desert” in late July, using a business model that will allow us to manage the entire operation on our own.

As was hinted by Art via his Facebook feed, we thought about it, compared the numbers and decided we could pay for bandwidth, pay the commercial licensing fees, pay our own overhead and still be financially viable, assuming the following conditions:

1. We have a considerable number of fans subscribe to a membership service that allows you to access the archived shows anytime via the website for a reasonable $5 / month.

2. We can sell advertising to be played during the breaks during the show. Not a lot, but enough to help pay for the music licensing during the LIVE FREE stream.

3. We can successfully curb pirated posts of our content to the Internet.

We’ll be operating under a certain specific licensing model that will allow us to ramp up from a “small webcaster” status into a large broadcaster in the future. It is imperitive that we earn enough through subscribers and ads sales to pay the bandwidth costs and music licensing fees. We believe that we can ramp up successfully using the current models in place at this time.

However, this happens to be the year (2015) that music industry participants are negotiating the next 5 years (2016-2020) rates for music licensing on the Internet. It is a wide open arena, and some license models may not survive. But we believe that we can operate under the current 2015 model for 6 months, and eventually fit into a 2016 model that is still cost effective.

We hope to recoup  all of our investments within the first 6 months, so we can better endure the cost increases that will inevitably happen in 2016. If the fans support us with memberships and the advertisers are satisfied, we should be good for a long while.

Keep watching here for the launch date announcement and further updates as we can pass along. We’ll let you know when it’s time to promote the show.

Art--one question I was wondering about what are the options with the music?  Is it:

1.) Live stream with Music

2.) Podcast no music

3.) Stream on demand with music

Or is it different?  Either way...very excited to have you back!!

Art Bell

Looks like Live Stream with music, Podcast without music. That is the standard everywhere.

Any chance of an on demand stream with the music intact (ie: not downloadable). I hate to invoke  evil but they who must not be named do this.

It's what will be between the bumpers that cannot be found elsewhere.

$5 a month is a great price, and I am happily going to pay for it.
That being said, I'm also going to record the live shows for the music, for my own consumption of course.
Just won't be able to hear it live most of the time due to my Deep South location.

8) Ready for the ride.

Art, congratulations and best wishes on your venture.  Thank you for caring about us as much as we care about you.  Please stick around some, I know we're just vaguely loveable, but it's been grand having you join in on the chat and cleared up a lot of misgivings people asserted about you (not me, but some others who assumed things).

Hope you can take a month off before the start of the show to take your wife and kid to the Philippines, she must be homesick.  If you ever decide to go to Cebu my wife there will most assuradley meet you at the airport and show you around if you aren't familiar with the city, despite the poverty there, it's a wonderful place, especially during The Sinulog Festival (in January).

And Art, thank you thank you thank you for making the offering affordable, I'm not saying this for a pity party, but I'm one of your not rich fans, I live hand to mouth so having an affordable solution is wonderful, and hope it will include paypal option or google pay option.

Thanks Art and Keith. Please post 'Best" clicky link for donations.

Art Bell buckaroos, let's show the boys our support!

spellerine

I can't wait!  Will very happily pay the $5 monthly fee to support the show!  As far as pirating, torrent sites and YouTube are what I would be most worried about.  Although letting a few select shows hang around freely on YouTube might actually be good for attracting new listeners.  People doing a search for the latest C2C pirated broadcast may just stumble across a MiTD show that they find more compelling to listen to...

It may be an interesting option to sell the archived shows directly through ITunes?

That's excellent! For me the show will be starting at 6 am. I usually get up at that hour and with the exception of 15 minutes of driving to work I'll be able to listen to everything live. I'll find the missing 15 minutes in podcast later;)

A ceremonial coin toss is a good thing--it's the toss that happens before a big game...aka Midnight in the Desert.

Yah see, nothing to worry about!

Just don't forget all the vaguely lovable little people here when you start your new bigshot show :P

Art Bell

Are we back up? Ok, looks like we are. Does anybody know about 32Kbps AAC+ ? I have been told it can sound every bit as good as regular 64 and would sure save Bandwidth. Something we are looking into.

I needed some good news, now we've got it.

Art, my BIL is working on becoming a HAM operator, you inspired him into the hobby.  What frequencies do you broadcast at?
