I wish I could tell you guys and gals the deal but I cant. I can tell you though that at the moment it is VERY frustrating and I do have a break point where I will say I am done and we gave it our best try and came at this deal in every way we could and it just was not going to work out.

It's not about money because it is a labor of love however the deal has to make sense. I will promise this, if it does not work out or if I just throw up my hands and say no more (close now) I will come on here and share with you all what went on.

I think the whole labor of love thing is something a lot of people have forgotten about, and a majority of them are out there for one purpose... and that is to make money. There is nothing wrong with making money, but it shouldn't be the only thing that drives people.

A major typhoon is barreling right towards the Philippines right now, couple more days and it'll be there.  The poor folks there need a break from these storms, seems every couple months there's another one.  And Taiwan needs the rain, wish the storm would move north so they could get the rain.  Freaking climate change.  Art, with the drought in California what is happening in Nevada?

Art,  did you know that ASCAP, and BMI both have these experimental licensing contracts available at reasonable prices? I attached the contract for you or/and Keith to look over (BMI's is exactly the same as ASCAP'S). Since it's not about the money for you I also attached a contract that BMI has for non-commercial websites. I do believe that you'd need IRS 501 non-profit status for that contract. I'm pretty sure that ASCAP offers exactly the same contract also.

ASCAP - http://www.ascap.com/licensing/licensingfaq.aspx#general

BMI - http://www.bmi.com/digital_licensing/entry/standard_websites

They are .PDF files that you can fill out then print them.

Dark Skies or Millenium?

laserjock

Millenium was cool, didn't that show disappear rather rapidly?  Lance Henriksen, right?

I have a feeling it is over who is liable if they get sued by the music industry or not.

From what I've read between the lines that is my best guess.

Yes, but it seems like that would be a easy fix. But the part where Art said he needs to protect his assets, which is understandable since he has a young child which is going to out live him by a great deal.

I think it has to be some sort of liability issue. If it is the songs I see no reason why Art just can give them a list of the songs he wants to play and they can approve it. He could always add to the list if he wants to add a song. The partner would be liable if they get sued for using one of the approved songs.

i really don't know what else would be a liability other than music?

No sorry, no idea. On another subject, still no agreement as yet. For something as easy as this should be, well it should have been done a long time ago. I wish I could tell you specifics so you could all share equally in my frustration, see what a friend I am.

lawyers are good at taking "what should be very easy" and making it very hard.

Art, you got this. Even if it takes a bit more time, the show doesn't HAVE to start in July. If you're at your breaking point, then simply walk away for a week or 2. Spend time with what is most important in your life, your girls. You don't need a roller coaster, and neither do we. Good things like this take time and effort. It will get done, but isn't worth beating yourself up about. (No judging here, we all do this type of thing in our lives.)

I disagree. I look good ALL the time. I've given up trying to be a male model for quite some time now (the entire scene is incredibly political). I now just look good for the joy of it.

Art remember that the journey is sometimes as much fun as the destination.  Though you're stressed about this now someday you'll look back at this time with fondness.  Hang in there brother I have a good feeling this will all work out just fine.

Art--i'll 1000% agree with this post.  You're close and there is NO rush to get it for July.  Let it happen when it happens.  Please chill over the ups and downs...take a step back and let others do the grunt work.  It'll be better for you and then you can get this baby nailed down in its own due time.  Be patient with this quarry...you'll bag it.

It's cool, brother.  But I'd like to hear how the planning for the family trip is going. I'm taking the family to Idaho in June, Coeur d'Alene, if the timeline works out.  I might have to just send them without me.  Damn job.

Art..a little diversion from the contract drama.

I know the contract ups and downs are most likely frustrating.. We are on pins and needles.. More needles lately.

In the spirit of you coming back to the air, you may want to reach out and get Obama's pilot on your show. He said he saw a UFO

Yes... and wake up naked while walking down the middle of a street.  Exhilarating.

Can we even be sure this is the original Art Bell posting here?
I mean Art could have been abducted and replaced with a clone, remote controlled by aliens or the secret government to prepare us for the coming invasion, or something.

Well bro, when I get in this kind of funk, I get me a bottle of Scotch and a straw.  I throw in a copy of Kelly's Heros and let my worries drift away.

Paladin; I assume you like the single-malts?  Have you tried Cragganmore?  It doesn't taste like a peat-bog as some do; it has a unique smokey flavor.  It really is amazing; and yes it's expensive as most single malts are; but damn worth it.

And as a long-time ww2 militaria collector; historian - Kelly's Hero's rocks...

We do share in your frustration Art, in hopes of lightening the burden so to speak.  That's what friends are for.  ;)

With all of the talk about copyright and royalties, you are not suggesting that Art provide you a link to a site that you do not need to pay for?  Are you suggesting that he forgo the $1.31 so that you can watch the clip for nothing?
What???   No!!!
Just trying to info on an old UFO Special on NBC (or maybe it was ABC).  Art was in a segment and I thought he might remember.  He doesn't.  As there are more important things going on here, I'll take "no" for the answer to my question and move on.

Wait . . . you're pulling my let, aren't you?  :-[ ;D

Not sure what your "let" is but sure seems like it is being pulled.
