I am one of those that fear the level of radiation being emitted from the cellphone and therefore try to limit it's use (I fail to limit it at all most days) so the thought of it going on all night by my delicate gray matter concerns me. I guess I could sleep with an astronaut's helmet.

Cell phones don't use ionizing radiation. In addition, the nervous system has the most radioresistant cells in the body. Many of the "studies" that have come out over the years linking cell phones to brain tumors are dubious at best.

I'm all about people taking care of themselves and avoiding harmful things in the first place. I'm also a medical imaging tech. As soon as people see the radiation symbol, they panic. There's a lot of falsehood and needless freakout out there concerning radiation. Believe me, though: In professional, controlled settings, it's not nearly as bad as what people erroneously assume.

Your cell phone is fine. And if you're listening to it from a docking station, you're not getting any radiation whatsoever -- ionizing or not. So, enjoy it without worry.  :D

That's class.

I don't have XM radio and don't plan to get it anytime soon, but i sure am interested to see what happens to c2c now. If Art is even 1/2 his old self, this is going to make the quality contrast painfully visible even to the blind.

Yep, they have a la carte packages you can put together for $7.99 a month & I'm sure even that could be talked down..

but 104 is not on the alacarte channel list...

I'm sure the shows will find their way onto youtube. I hope I can find out a way to live to him live though.

For most people, the sound quality of Sirius can be as good as anything, better than FM for sure. A lot of people have junk radios and speakers though. Stern's show sounds better than his FM one ever did so I am surprised by the complaints. I like in a major metro area though, so that may have an impact. I know drivers who have it and use it on the road though and I've never heard of an issue with it.

Budgeting things is important. For those saying you can't afford it, you get a FREE 30 days, and MV has posted a way for you to add net for $1.85 a month to your current sub, and someone else has posted a way to get it for the price of $4 a month at the most, if you do your homework on the hardware and wait for a flash sale, you can get it for as low as $19.99. Truthfully, if $4 a month is an issue for you so much so that you can't shave $4 off of something else, then you have bigger problems than not being able to tune into Art Bell!

I always enjoyed Sirius, and will be reactivating my sub sometime over the next month.

Anyone try those code 24.99 for six months

don't think that works for an  internet only subscription?

Awesome news, Art. I'll have to look into Sirius now. It was always best listening live... oh,.. and about F'n time!

And the Internet version of Sirius-XM Channel 104 (Indie) is in Stereo.  Art will never have sounded better and the bumper music.... Yesss!!  ;D
Art was already in stereo back in the late 90's on FM stations and streaming...

I think I heard it's only $12.50 a month if you get the internet only subscription.  Elsewhere though I heard $12.95 a month for internet only.
those were old prices from over a year ago.
the current prices on the sirius/xm website are $14.49 monthly for internet only (plus some fees/taxes?)
they also list a special yearly price (as opposed to monthly) for a premier (all channels) subscription that includes internet access for $199/year.

but that deal does not apply for an internet only subscription?

I really wonder if that will happen.  Won't SiriusXM be shutting down those YouTube links to audio of the shows nearly as soon as they appear?

Although, I do note the almost all of the recent c2c shows appear on YouTube, with the music stripped out of them to avoid copyright infringement issues.  I haven't noticed them being pulled down by Clear Channel, but Sirius may feel differently about the matter.
Howard Stern has been on Sirius for years and there are still torrents made available for download of his shows within a short time after each new shows airs.  ;)

Good move George...I retract my earlier post inferring PNR intimidation.

Whitley Strieber has now tweeted and put up an article at his own website as well today, indicating both he and Hoagland may be some of Art's frequent guests:
http://www.unknowncountry.com/news/art-bell-returns-air

Legendary radio host Art Bell is returning to the air on September 16 on Sirius XM Satellite Radio with a late-night program called 'Art Bell's Dark Matter.' Art ended his regular hosting of Coast to Coast AM in 2002, and has not been on the air since Halloween of 2010. The show will air from 10PM to 1AM Eastern Time, and Art will have total freedom to do exactly what he wants. Unlike terrestrial radio, satellite broadcasts are not subject to the constraints imposed by regulatory authorities. The program will not compete directly with Coast to Coast AM, which starts nationwide as 'Dark Matter' leaves the air. 'Dark Matter' will cover the paranormal, UFOs, shadow people and all the wildness of the night. It will be a mix of talk, interviews and open lines.

Dick Hoagland and our own Whitley Strieber are bound to be frequent guests again. Will we also see a return of characters like the inimitable "JC" with his unforgettably surrealistic vision of the Bible, and Mel, of 'Mel's Hole' fame? With Art hosting the show, the only answer can be 'who knows?'

of course he didn't, Noory will never mention Art Bell and give him free advertising on his show - he even stopped mentioning Art Bell in his thank list at the end of the show last night...
Noory's call screeners are also apparently on alert now and stopping any caller from mentioning Art Bell and his new deal too.

My thoughts exactly about Knapp.  Granted it's only several times a month but he's still with PremRat.  I'm sure some PremRat wienie suit would like to tell him off about downright endorsing Art on Sirius but if they have any sense at all, they should realize that might be the last straw for Knapp.  Maybe Knapp DOES have something in work with Art.  :)

Since Dave Noorie sold his soul to the corporate store long ago, he'll continue to be the PremRat suck-up that he is and continue to sweep anything about Art under the carpet.  What a phony, sickening wienie.

Not surprised... they (Premiere/Noory) I'm sure are dodging the conversation anytime they can. I wonder if they'll allow any comments on Art in Noory's C2C Insider chats.

And Knapp is a class guy as some have commented. I've emailed him a few times in the past and he's always responded and been very cool.

I'm really excited about the quality of guests Art will have on his show. I realize some say many of them were not "credible", but quite honestly with the ones that were not, Art never said that they were. He expected all of us to make up our own minds, and if someone was duped by a false story, that's the way it goes with alternative news and paranormal stuff. Just enjoy the ride... I always thought that Art's question he posed at the beginning of each show was the perfect thing to say. The destination, or conclusion for that matter, of each show was not what people were looking for at the time. We were looking for the ride, to have fun over the entire duration of the snow, not to have some great wisdom imparted to us at the end of each show.

That last bit is almost impossible with C2C as it is now, so I can understand if people forget that, or lost sight of it. It's been YEARS since I have had an opportunity to listen to Art live, and even longer since I heard him happy with his contract and not hating the show he was being forced to do. I'm excited for it!! I think it's awesome that at least most people here are! I really hope everyone tries  out the free sub in September. Maybe you'll remember why you started listening to Art in the first place! :)

Side question and statement... Was anyone else afraid that Art was going to no show last night with a radio show? I was dead sure that he would be announcing, right up until about 3 minutes before midnight. I suddenly thought to myself. Look at this, we all came tonight, we are all here for Art, all these years later, even the ones that didn't believe he would be coming back even just earlier in the day. I suddenly got terrified he was going to no-show. I think I tweeted and posting something like "we are all here for you Art! We came! Please be there for us too!" I realized something in those 90 seconds between midnight and when his site updated. I realized how much I trust Art, count(ed) on him. I've been listening to him for so long, even repeats that I listen to almost nightly, that he is like a security blanket. Like your best friend sitting in the seat next to you in the car as you drive down the night road, night after night.

What that made me understand is, I see why there are a few of you that are... Angry... At Art. I would have been devastated last night if Art wouldn't have announced coming back, and I think it would have caused a pretty extreme amount of anger and loss of faith. Do you guys think that's what happened to some, before now? They felt abandoned by Art? I know that probably sounds over dramatic, but when you are listening to someone on the radio in the middle of the night for 3-5 hours a night for what... 15 years... An attachment is going to develop. Particularly if it's someone like Art, which is to say that he believes all the same weird stuff you do and doesn't make you feel crazy for believing the things you do.

Quote from: Ravenna on July 30, 2013, 11:27:42 AMI note that article going around the internet says that the Sirius representative contacted Art via social media a few months ago.  That must have been when he was in negotiations for that other show that didn't work out.  Recall that message on FB that said, in sum, that he had walked from a deal coz it wasn't right?  I'm thinking that was probably with Cumulus.  Then, when the Cumulus deal didn't work out, he already knew that he had the option of going with Sirius.  Maybe that's why the Cumulus deal didn't work out:  he knew he'd get far more creative control being on Sirius...
Plus the numbers magically goes waaaay up when there's competition for one's services. Damn right Art was talking with Cumulus. And others I bet. We'd probably be amazed at who all Art danced around with *cough*PremRad*cough* juuuuust enough to see what might come of it. Does anyone think that PremRad absotuely, positively would have refused to even think about whether they might come up with a way to make money off Art again? Not that Art would ever have gone back with them...I don't think. But if they'd thought Art might have been the least interested, and if Art thought they might make some kind of offer, I think he would have at least played footsie with PremRad, if only to use their interest as an inducement to the other outfits to up their ante.

Yep, we'd probably be very surprised at the radio outfits who put a toe in the water to check the temperature; or threw a few numbers on the wall to see what stuck; or ran a few figures up the ol' flagpole to see who saluted; or who threw a scenario in the pool to see if it swims; or who fired a shot to see who yelped; or....okay that's all the 50's adspeak I can come up with from movies like Man In The Gray Flannel Suit and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and the like. The bottom line is, by going with SiriusXM, Art probably cut down his audience significantly, but came away with Count of Monte Cristo kind of money. Plus freedom, ostensibly, from corporate interference.

Don't often comment on these big, multi-thousand reply posts, but considering the big news today, I had to pop in and see what the scuttle is. All I can say about Snoory's position now with Art returning, and providing this story about him censoring any word about it has done nothing but officially seal and ensure his status as a royal shallow douchebag. You think Snorge would at least have the class and decency to be big enough to say thanks to Art for practically making his career for him, but also wish him luck in his new radio endeavors. I don't know if it's by his choosing or his PR people's choosing not to, but obviously it's beneath him. With The Great Bell finally returning, I officially have no reason to ever listen to a single word breathed out of his hot air filled mouth again!

I'm sure Noory is aware that Art has a sour taste in his mouth on how the program developed over the years. And I'm sure maybe they're a little peeved and being cold to any talk about Art right now. I love Art but without Art it will never be the same C2C. That's a given, Art should realize when you let it in someone else's hands it's gonna change. But on the other hand George should respect his opinion and thank him for the chance he was given and where he is now.

I love how Ian said it the other night (week) when he gave props to John Wells and admitted they don't always agree on things but at least respect and get along.

Being a radio nerd, I'm excited to hear the new intro to the show, the imaging, maybe even Ross Mitchell announcing?

There is no way Dave could not be aware of it. Art put it right in his press release last night that he doesn't like Dave's show. Plus, he has slammed it very, very hard on his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Article: "Bell isn't a fan, saying he considers Noory "not edgy enough."
