When is art coming back?

Which?

The other morning early they had some guy on NPR talking ants. He was strangely enthusiastic about them. But, at the same time, admitted necessity to kill them sometimes. He had a theory, which I've heard before, about 'allowing' one nest and killing others because eliminating all hives will result in new invasions. Sorta like allowing colonias, I guess.

But reminded me and I thought I wonder if this guy was, or knew, the 'ant guy' from Art Bell strange people open-lines who decided to 'follow an ant' 'just because he wondered 'what they do all day.' Ultimately I seem to recall that the ant bested him and went down a storm drain and he couldn't follow. Weak but good, but strange, effort.

I remember that show. It also had a someone call in who ate rocks from his yard. Art specifying the caller's preference for "yard rocks" made me laugh.

I'm inspired to listen to it again. Maybe it's the October 21, 1997 Weird Person Line show.

Ack! This small amount of time I get to edit my post is going to cause me to lose sleep.

Though he was, possibly, wrong on a lot of issues he was GREAT on radio. He knew how to draw out a guest or caller. One quote I mention, because telling genius: "the Dental----Mafia?" That hooked you instantly by the pre-NPR uptalk but the pause, as is himself pondering. Then leaves the listener 'wtf' there is a dental mafia? And was a random bit during some unrelated show subject. That the genius let the show flow.

Hey Roz, how do you listen your various shows?

Earbuds/headphones at work, meditatively in an easy chair with a high-fidelity soundsystem & speakers, or via a landline in the middle of a cornfield somewhere are the possibilities I imagine for you.

I listened to the show. It was really good; Art was in the zone! Even taking care with upbeat bumper music and cleverly dropping Ross Mitchell in only after the pianist zips up and down the keys in I'm So Excited, for example. One caller said he might have been abducted by aliens but didn't want to talk about it. haha. There did seem to be a commercial slid in there though. The caller was selling really expensive masturbation machines. Like $2300-$3500 in today's money expensive. Art gave him an 8 out of 10 on the weirdness scale. Is a man selling sex toys that weird? I bet it was one of Art's HAM buddies.

It looks...sturdy. Apparently, that's the newer model. According to the caller it was the size of a large briefcase back then. It looks like it should have a chute where you shovel the coal in to power it.

I don't recall the "dental...Mafia?" part but I know what you mean. I'll be on the lookout for it.

Wow. I'm thinking that Art took him off air to DX him on HAM radio about cheaper options by some Asian flights. But I recall also, assuming it was not masturbatory, that Penthouse lady was an expert on fighting cancer with some elements/supplements or something. He also really liked the "sexy lawyer" and her ideas on "using your sexuality in business and negotiations."

911. Art had good live show. It can be found in the archive or on the interweb archives. Somewhere also there is KFI's (LA AM Radio station) whole day archive. I forget what Hendrie did that ACTUAL day and following but soon after, in Hendrie fashion, developed Fajeen character, I think.

I was there. It was 3 days of, "I can't believe it. It was much better than Cats."

THREE. DAYS. Condor not included.

Clever. Condor not included. Haha. I was out of the country but knew some folks in NYC during the events and they said it was just bizarre post-911 with Manhattan empty etc.

I'm told that in some timelines, it wasn't empty--they were hiding. "Cowering in place," they called it. 58D!!

Yeah. Some were lucky and 'locked in' at a bar. But then afterwards most left and place was empty I'm told except for things like investigators and some reporters since much of the news is based outta there.

That was interesting.
I tuned out to this universe a few weeks after Art died,
so I didn't know the full story.  Not sure if I do now, either.

You missed many days of outrage and fun.

Roswells, Art

I came across 14 shows that are new to me. Maybe they are new to you too. Here is the uploader's description:

Long lost episodes of Art Bell's "Area 2000" radio program from 1993, now found! This was the precursor to Dreamland which broadcast on Sunday nights in the 90s.

Area 2000 was a non-commercial broadcast funded by the Bigelow Foundation, broadcast from KDWN 720 AM Las Vegas Nevada on Sundays 8 to 10 PM Pacific Time.

These were apparently recorded off the radio from Yuma AZ, so the signal fades from time to time. (Much thanks to Youtube user Sable Lidara!)

Thanks for those old Area 2000 show recordings!
I had heard of that show only when Linda Howe and George Knapp referred to it at times.
Indeed it was a year or two before Art's Dreamland Sunday night show and it followed a similar format.
I didn't know about Art Bell until after 1994 I believe, so I missed those shows.

Listening to some of the 1993 Area 2000 shows it appears George Knapp and Linda Howe are regulars who give reports during the first half hour, then the night's main guest appears for the rest of the 2 hour show.
The later "Dreamland" show was a little longer at 3 hours and also featured Linda Howe's reports and taped interviews for the first hour or so.

The fading of the radio recording reminds me of back then in the mid 1990s listening on AM stations that weren't local for Art's shows.  I eventually bought the big CC Radio that was able to pull in distant AM stations better. So much better nowadays with clean streaming audio!

Going through legal hell over a relative who died without a will. Or had one, but not filed with the County or kept by firm (apparently by his request.) Lawyer who, maybe per conversations did it, has died. There is a safety deposit box where, maybe it is in. But since no POA can't access. Searching house though found some unmarket cassette tapes. Was going to throw out but one marked 'Art's Wedding.' He had shitty old car got running n had player. Sure enough he recorded shows and it was Art show years ago about his whirlwind marriage post-Ramona. In which his HAM radio friend married along with him Filipina sisters. Hilarious, n sorta weird. Recorded from radio. So far, no 'new' Art. At least I got them going as I sort out shit n try to find will or deal with the process. Hoarder-type. Surprise! Liked Art and made tapes.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. As I was driving, I caught a few mins of ghost to ghost. I'm not sure they give a damn about it.

I'll just leave this here.

Merry Christmas friends!
