George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium

Started by MV/Liberace!, April 06, 2008, 01:23:02 AM

Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

No
No

ziznak

I concur with the Sardondi analysis.  Noory pulled a half asses mimic move.  He has no sense of humor of his own so he's just imitating what he observes people do when they are being funny and clever.  It reminded me of something a child would do.

ACE of CLUBS

George has a socio-pathic personality that he tries to hide with his 'acts of kindness' .....
He doesn't ring true when he is telling his stories ..... you know that he's bullshitting every time he has the compulsion to tell the audience how 'human' he is.

George should be gone ...... he's fucked up enough.

popple

Yes, Jorch should be sent packing. Along with his "special voice machine"

This just occurred to me.  What would George do if the guest called him out and said something to the effect...."I know it was you and it's not funny.  You are rude and unprofessional."  Would he just cut the guest off to save embarrassment?

That's when the line gets cut and he goes to open lines.

That has probably happened before with previous guests.
The ones that mysteriously disappeared early and Noory returns from a break announcing that now we have those open lines...  8)

Last night Noory was probably trying to imitate that demon voice that he heard Art Bell do years ago while talking to notorious caller JC.
But Art would never do that with a serious guest, like Noory did...

Excellent sir!....

While I certainly appreciate the compliments, the thoughts about Noory's narcissim aren't original to me. Well, while I didn't take them from anyone, rest assured many people have thought the same thing and probably before I began thinking about it. One of the best analyses of Noory as "malignant narcissist" was done by a former CoastGabber who went by the name of chosenbygrace*. He posted it in the Hoagland "100% delusional" thread, here: http://coastgab.com/index.php/topic,340.msg66621.html#msg66621

FWIW cbg had some very strong opinions on religious, socio-cultural and political issues which, I think it fair to say, placed him outside the mainstream. He was combative as well, often getting into some pretty heated exchanges, and he could be downright insulting. But on the issue of Hoagland, I found his analysis brilliant. However, based on reading his posts in the intervening months between his original Hoagland analysis  (April 2012) and when he left CoastGab (late Fall of 2012?), I came to wonder whether cbg had any special training or expertise in psychology or mental health, or if his opinions about Hoagland were based merely on his having read a bunch of books about the subject. But then I'm certainly no expert on the subject, so caveat lector: and remember...

Subject: Tuesday Night

I don't know how or where to begin.  Last night Noory said that we were going to enjoy another "Classic Coast to Coast" program with Linda   Stasi.  Linda has written a novel that includes the story of Veronica's Veil.  More intriguing, however, was her six year investigation into the veil and the intriguing, mysterious, unexplainable occurrences she experienced while on that six year "journey".
I was looking forward to, as George characterized it, "Another Classic Coast to Coast"......he expounded by saying, "This program will be riveting!"
What in God's name happened to Noory?  He had absolutely NO preparation as he entered into this interview. However, that is  not unusual.  What was unusual was Noory's STRANGE demeanor toward this credible, accomplished guest.  Initially he began the interview satisfactorily.  As the interview progressed, it was obvious he wasn't listening as he repeated and repeated the same questions.  For example, Ms. Stasihad explained that she met a priest at the gates of the Vatican to discuss the veil.  She further embellished her account by explaining that the priest (on a scooter!) led her into the Vatican gardens, and they sat and continued their discussion.  Noory, about 45 minutes after this account, asked Ms.Stasi, "So, have you ever been to the Vatican?"  He asked her if she had been to the site of the veil.....she had already given the site's name, and her experiences there....including the photographing of the veil.   Listen to the entire "interview", if that's what one can call it......Noory repeated and repeated questions until Ms. Stasiwould actually say, "As I have indicated earlier"  or "As I said previously...."  I want you, Mr. Brady, to actually LISTEN to a repeat of the program.  Because, even though Noorywas completely "disconnected" and unengaged with this supposedly "riveting" topic......the night grew unbelivably more "cringe worthy"![/u] [/u] [/u] Knapp,Punnett and Wellswould have had a interview that included a HUGE segment into the bizarre experiences Ms. Stasikept referring to.  Not ONCE did Nooryask, "Linda, please share all of your strange, unsettling, and unexplainable experiences that you had while studying the veil."  NOT ONCE!!!!!  Ms. Stasi repeatedly stated that she had many experiences......and she did find the opportunity to share the one concerning her friend Donna and another of the old exorcist priest at the Vatican who fainted upon viewing the veil..........but, Linda, herself, managed to interject these accounts into the interview.  The two experiences were shared because Linda found the opportunity to tell the listeners.  Noory did not facilitate ONE of the experiences that Ms. Stassi was obviously eager to share with the listeners.   What in the heck is Noory thinking?  She handed him, most likely, two full hours of interview material which he "dropped" like a lead ball.  I so wish Knapp, Punnett or  Wells would have taken the host chair and showNoorywhat an excellent guest Ms. Stasi could have been.
(A comment here about Monday night......Dr. Stein was a superb guest.  Do you know why?  He spoke NON STOP and was an adept, extremely organized and skillful speaker.  Most likely Dr. Stein's educational background lent him the skills to move forward without Noory.  And, it worked beautifully.  Noory said a few words or comments.......Stein took the LEAD!)
After reading this email, your assumption would be that I've addressed my major point.  Sadly, I haven't.  What was the most CRINGE INDUCING aspect of this so-called interview was the juvenile, yes, juvenile.....STUPID......avenue Noorytook this guest on.  It began with a somewhat unrelated and far too disjointed discussion about clones and Jesus being cloned.  Granted, a short "diversion" into cloning was fine because Ms.Stasiwas making suppositions concerning the cloning of Jesus's son.   Noorytook this "hypothesis" into a ridiculous supposition.  It was EMBARRASSING.  Following that irrelevant and convoluted exchange about cloning,  it was clear to the listeners that he had "run out of questions"......because he began taking calls a half an hour early.  We Coast to Coasters know that this is Noory's "strategy"...... when he can no longer function as a host, he goes to his callers.
But the most debasing and cringe causing moment was when he said some strange sentence and led the guest to think that it was another bizarre happening that has haunted her since she began the writing of her book.  Oh my gosh.....what in the #$!$@! is wrong with this supposedly GROWN MAN who is at the helm of one of the largest over night talk shows in America?  Mr. Brady, Lisa.....listen to the program and tell me that this is NORMAL behavior.  Can you imagine what the guest must have been thinking?  How juvenile, rude, and just plain stupid Nooryrevealed himself to be.  I intend to email Ms. Stasi and share my thoughts about this.
I am grateful that you have taken the time to read this email.  I honestly wish I didn't have to express these thoughts.  I share them because  I CARE about Coast to Coast......and I yearn for the day when you finally realize that George Noory's legitimacy as a well-spoken, thought-provoking, intelligent, and respectful host is NEVER going to happen.[/font]

Coast to Coast AM w Alan Smithee

It's been probably about 2 years since I tuned into coast. Before I had stopped listening the only reason I was still listening was because I found this forum one night when searching on the internet "George Noory sucks" (because I couldn't believe I was the only one that thought so) and for awhile would have fun reading what people would also hear during the show.

Anyway, what a show I happened to catch last night. My perception of George has always been that he is inept and just not the type of radio host to host this sort of program. Last night proved that George Noory not only cares nothing for the credibility of his show but that he has a contempt for the guests and listeners. I think the analysis of his narcissism is spot on.

Hearing this last night kept me up hours longer reading forum posts around the forum, catching up on what was going on with Art and actually registering here. My fiance and I often make fun of George by doing impersonations of questions he often asks his guests. I have to truly wonder how many people hear the same things we do, think the same things we do but just don't vocalize them in anyway. I have a feeling a great deal of people think George is a blithering idiot. Unfortunately I'm sure a great deal of them never had the pleasure of listening to Art and thus they assume that Coast to Coast is nothing but a show about interesting people conversing with a buffoon. So to them last night was just another Coast to Coast because they have no idea this show is supposed to have some sort of integrity as its backbone.

Noory, with his insincere paid programming announcer voice and infantile brain, has in my opinion destroyed coast. If Art does return, if he were offered Coast, I think he should not accept because the show has been damaged so badly since he has left. He needs to start something new and rebuild its reputation.

I hate for my first post to be a rant but I'm guessing that's nothing new here ;)

Email to George. CC to Tom and Linda

George -

Did you feel very pleased with yourself when you signed off and shut down last night? Did you and Tommy roar laughing and congratulate each other on your joke? Did you?
You pull your 'Amityville voice', and then deny it. Not once but repeatedly throughout the remainder of the show. When your guest asked if it was you, you denied it. Lied through your teeth to her and your callers repeatedly. You asked Linda if she thought she was possessed. She was clearly rattled and upset by the whole thing and you put that notion in her head? Really?
She asked if you could play it back. You said: No, you couldn't. Really? In a modern, digital, computer-driven radio studio you ask us to believe you can't do that? You're a liar.
You said you would play it on Friday during your (call-screened: Ah, Art Bell: where are you, now?) Open Lines. Was that a lie too, George? Will you do it? Play your 'prank' and your denials and carry on pretending it wasn't you? I dare you to do it.
This woman was your guest, giving up her time in the small hours of the morning. This may come as a shock to you, but guests should be treated with respect, and not the casual, bullying contempt you dished out.
You are beneath contempt, Mr Noory. That you have stayed in your job for ten years, driving a once-great show into the dust is a mystery to me. I just hope the other shoe will finally drop with your bosses and that they will do the decent thing and give you the bullet you so richly deserve.

And, my friend......BRAVO TO YOU AS WELL!!!!!  WELL WRITTEN!

Coast to Coast AM w Alan Smithee

Even Alan Smithee would pull their name from this turkey.

In other news, the Fine Art stream with Art Bell was very good last night.  Art was dealing with a guest who was clearly delusional about basic facts and lost continent at the north pole, but he handled the guest with class and allowed him to speak.  George would have handled it differently and failed.

Of course, George probably would have believed there was a hidden continent at the north pole...it is George.

Quote from: Sardondi on January 16, 2013, 10:40:48 AM
George "Special Voice Machine" Noory just gave us one more example of the fact that he just doesn't understand how people think and feel. Whether or not he agrees with someone, he owes all guests (and callers) a modicum of courtesy and professionalism; after all, he asked them to appear and speak. For him to have an author on to talk about a book, but then to abruptly change gears and go in to some kind of 60's drive-time DJ doing cornball "funny" routine is just bizarre. And to keep up the silly denial that he was "teasing" is an incredibly rude and aggressive act.

I'm convinced George Noory has a personality disorder which makes it difficult for him to "get" people - something along the lines of narcissism, maybe with a little sociopathy thrown in. It would account for much of the weirdness that is George, from his bizarre choices and inappropriate attitudes to his unexpected and rude remarks which he doesn't seem to intend. He simply does not understand normal people and what goes on in their heads and hearts.

Of course he has learned from other humans, and he mimics what he has seen and heard, so he generally knows how to act. And so he often does a good job concealing the fact he doesn't emotionally connect with a particular situation or interaction, and doesn't really understand why a person would act a certain way. George is borg.

George is always talking about various 'friends' that he has, but a person with friends learns over time how to function around people.  I doubt very much that George has these friends.

What is so unusual is that a person with non-existant talent, looks, personality, or brains could get opportunity after opportunity - people backing him in the restaurant and other business ventures, geting the Coast show, his earlier TV shows and  now the GiamTV gig.  He must have an amazing agent and be able to act human in short bursts of a few hours in meetings here and there.

We've heard this before from George.  Obvioulsy he isn't tinterested in ancient religious relics - well, actually, he isn't interested about ANY of the old Coast to Coast topics, he clearly lied about all that to get the show in the first place.

I'm thinking about his show with the Shroud of Turin.   As soom as the show begins, out of his mouth live on national radio he's talking about the Shroud of Urine.  George and Tommy HAVE to have joked about the 'Shroud of Urine' all day, maybe for days ahead of the show, in order for that to happen.

Just pathetic.  And according to George, anyone that doesn't like it is just a hater - well, because he's just such a great broadcaster.

I'm guessing we'll see more of this sort of thing as time goes on.  I don't think George ever gave a rat's ass about the paranormal.  And now, after 10 years, he just hates it.  And now he has two shows to deal with, and his real thoughts are going to come out one way or another, right?  And so we have these bumbling pranks.

I wonder if George is the type of guy who would rather get fired then go through the effort of quitting. Or perhaps he's a big spender and has large debts to pay off.  So he goes through the motions.

This is what George means when he says something along the lines that 'the show is serious but sometimes we're just having fun'.  He probably thinks this voice stunt is something comparable to the deep devilish voice Art sometimes used when JC called.  Which makes this another classic show.

George, go with your real thoughts, you juvenile self-centered prick.  It would make great radio.

George, you really always dreamed of being the same sexist, racist as Rush is, didnt you?

qaddisin

I've been a lurker here for a little while now, and the farce that was last night's show has finally given me cause to post.

My name's Jay, and I used to be a Coast to Coast listener.

It started innocently enough. On a late night trip down I-75, I was flipping through radio stations, hoping to find something to keep me awake, since the passengers had long since fallen asleep. Suddenly, I stumble upon Art Bell talking to Nick Begich about HAARP. The affair commenced.

I've always been an insomniac, and a fan of esoterica, Fortean weirdness, fringe science, and tall tales, so Coast to Coast fit in perfectly with my lifestyle and tastes. And Art Bell was perfect at what he did. He asked the right questions. He let the guest or caller relate their story. You could tell when he was incredulous, but the show wasn't about him. And he never seemed to make it that way.

When Art finally acquiesced to George Noory as full time host, I dealt with it for a while. I figured that even though George didn't seem to have 'it', he would get better with a little bit of time (I felt that way about Ian, as well, but that's a different topic). And for a while, I didn't mind listening to him. But as time went on, I felt Coast to Coast changing. Noory became more of a shill and less of an interviewer. He would repeat the same inane phrases night after night, and seemed more interested in scaring the shit out of people, or make a conversation about him than actually making them think.

I got to a point where I would pick and choose which shows I would listen to, dependent on the guest, the topic, and the host. This has gone on for a couple of years, and I'll generally keep Noory on more for background noise than for any hope of insightful, intelligent conversation. Last night was one of those nights. The topic held promise, but once Noory commenced to intervatin', there was no way there was going to be any cohesion, and I went back to my button mashing exercises. But I happened to be paying attention when the exchange between Linda Stasi, Noory, and 'the spooooky voice' happened, and when Noory didn't admit that he did it, I wasn't exactly surprised. But when she seemed more and more disturbed about it, and Noory fed it, I genuinely felt bad for the lady.

I didn't listen to the December 21st show because I knew what it would be (and I thought it would be more fun to go out). I listened to some of the January 6th show, hoping that someone would have the cajones to tell Noory the opposite of what was actually said all night. But the way Noory acted on January 15th has finally killed it for me. I can't support a program or a network that acts like this, regardless of host or topic.

Of course, I'll read all about the exploits here, because you all are infinitely more entertaining than what Coast to Coast has become.

And apologies for the long-windedness. I kinda let that get away from me there.
