George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium

Started by MV/Liberace!, April 06, 2008, 01:23:02 AM

Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

No
No
Oh, what the fuck are they going to bring up next?  Howdy Doody?  Someone ought to make a clip of little Noory sitting in the audience of that show.

The Day The Earth Caught Fire is my favorite British sci-fi film.

"Brits have a funny sense of humor."  What the fuck does this have to do with the conversation?

I'll have to check that out.  Did you ever see the BBC production of Day of the Triffids?  Low production budget but freaked me out first time I saw that.

The movie?  I saw the Howard Keel version a long time ago but can't remember it very well.  The 60's version was pretty good and I'd love to find it on dvd.

I think it was a 2-3 part serial or such.  Back in the 80's or earlier even.  Very simple sets & effects but a good telling of the story imho.  Such a simple idea but the way the tension mounts rattled me at the time.  Probably super tame by today's standards though.  More of a psychological/social examination.

I'd love to see it.  I'd rather have suspense and a good script along with so-so effects than a version with a bad script and awesome CGI effects.

Hear hear!  A similar good example of this was the BBC's classic low budget version of the Hitchhiker's Guide vs. the disasterous effects-bloated movie.

My wife is a huge fan of the books but boy did that movie suck.

Trust me that movie did the amazing feat of changing gold into lead.  Check out the books, the old '80 BBC production, or even better, the actual BBC radio series which is hilarious.

Anyway I'm not sticking around for 'frumus omphen wines' tonite, jumping over to hoagie's show.  But fun bantering with you here on GNS, 21st, like old times.   ;)

Jorch acts like he has seen Strait-jacket, a Joan Crawford, William Castle production.  Pretty good movie.  Joan gets to kill Lee Majors with an ax in his first role.

How does this phony keep his job?

LOL.  I tried Richard already.  He's talking with Robin. <snore>

Later, zeebo.  This is the first night in a while that I bothered to turn on Coast.

Take care.

I used to live in Southern NH and worked around Portland Maine.  I would drive up on Moday morning, stay in the Portland area, and drive home on Friday afternoon.  I got a copy of The Hitchhikers Guide on audiobook.  One winter Monday morning I was driving across 495 in Massachusetts listening to the audiobook.  I started laughing so hard and suddenly snow started shooting over my car.  I had drifted over into the snow bank.  That put me off audiobooks in cars for a few days.

George is in prime form tonight.

"I really hate hucksters who want to come on the show and sell a lot of books."  LOL Jorch.  You must really hate yourself not to mention your program director.

No! Lol it was worse than that! He says "The only thing I try to watch for is people who are truly hucksters, and try to make a lot of money...people who claim they captured bigfoot and that they were going to do a live pay per view..you know charge you 20 bucks and you'll see bigfoot running around the back yard...that's when I shut it down" Ha! so no mention of the medical crap and remote viewing missing children and the numbers lady...he also complimented the guy for bringing back "mem-bories"

1.Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was a BBC radio play even before it became a book.

2.The BBC miniseries of Day of the Triffids can be found in torrents.  I guess it gets fairly mixed reviews.  I've never seen the movie.

3.I think Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of the worst movies of all time.  Not to give any spoilers but the scene with the lights at the end goes on far too long and is ultimately pointless and Richard Dreyfus has to do two scenes that are outright embarassing.  Given that he was already a major star at the time of the film, I can't believe he agreed to take the role.

Haha yeah I heard those 21st.  He also stumbled when he asked about tv sci-fi saying "We've got The Walking Dead, and ..uh .. others ..."  The dude is so lazy he's not even aware of lazy pop culture topics.

The worst part was that Lobo said right before this "I'm not a big fan of the sci fi shows of today like The Walking Dead"

In addition to this and the movie title that Noory couldn't remember that it turned out that Lobo guessed correctly and Noory wasn't aware of that, there was also a third incident where Noory asked a question right after the Lobo had just answered it.

Noory said that this is stuff he looooooves, but even for this guest, it seems Noory couldn't actually be bothered to listen to him.

I suspect the only reason Lobo was on is because both Noory's 'internet based television show' and Lobo's program are on the same internet channel.  However, while I would have been interested in his opinion on the new big budget science fiction movies - one a year for the last three years that seem to be scheduled for early October or November, "The Martian", "Interstellar" and  "Gravity," I lost interest in Lobo due to his rather pathetic sucking up to Noory.

I can't understand why anybody would praise a talk show host after it became clear that he wasn't even listening to me.

Well, that was quite a show last night. A Republican operative who not only impugned Hillary Clinton's character but also accused her of specific, unproven crimes -- in the midst of a presidential race. Wish we still had the Fairness Doctrine!
The Fairness Doctrine was great.  It put news reporting into a tizzy because it had a built in nebulous quality, but it made them take the other side into consideration and viewers could more easily see how people could have different viewpoints.  I think reinstituting it would help the country get back on track and encourage cooperation.

I agree, but really we should just have some government commission that determines what the truth and news is and how it should be interpreted. Why even bother with giving somewhat equal time to matter of opinion? Because that would, logically, devolve ab absurdum because there is an infinity of opinion (almost.) So really we should just have some entity, maybe under the UN or some international treaty like the TPP, etc determine what the news is and what the proper opinion is, what can be broadcast, discussed, believed, and so forth.

Everyone's done a great job of covering the high (low?) points of last night's first segment, which was definitely one for the time capsule.
My ears perked up when Our Host announced the topic because I'm a great fan of sci fi and horror, but I almost stopped listening after about five or six choice Noory utterences in the first 45 minutes. But something told me there were many wonderful tidbits to come. I was rewarded.
Besides the ones already noted, some of my favorites were:

George implying that there isn't much science fiction and horror on TV now. No? Only everywhere you look.

ANnoorying constantly adds the adjective "very" when unnecessary and/or inappropriate (most often when reading a guest's introductory bio). Last night's example was a classic: "...the very late Ed Wood..." Yes, I've heard Wood was notorious for not being on time.

In the middle of a conversation about SF and horror hosts George asks the guest if his city had a Bozo the Clown. (We know who the Bozo is.)

Talking about great British films like the Quatermass series, he comments that Brits have a weird sense of humor.

Insisted on pronouncing Roku "Royku."

And finally, for Triffid lovers everywhere, something from my personal collection:

Great movie
-GNS

Leo McKern was great in it and you get to see former Disney darling, Janet Munro, topless.  Michael Caine had a small bit in the film as a checkpoint policeman.

He has a few generic so-called loves that when even slightly pressed reveals he knows almost nothing about them.  When I'm passionate about something I can't help but dive in and learn more, but Noory just relies on a few simple go-to links like Twilight Zone = To Serve Man or SETI = Wow Signal.

You numbnut, Jorch.  He said Explorers.  Why don't you listen to the guest for a change.
Hahaha.  Yeah, I tuned into to listen to Lobo (Thankfully, it wasn't Bobo) and laugh at Jorch's usual idiocy.  The Explorers was a classic Nooron fumble.  I was laughing when he talked about his discussions with Lisa Lyon.  I wonder how many times "you F'ing moron" passes through her mind during such wondrous exchanges with Jorch, her useful idiot.

Here's an interesting, rarely shown early British sci-fi film.  The usual British "hamminess" but well worth watching.  I saw it recently for the first time on an OTA channel.

The Saturday afternoon local TV scifi/horror movie host in southern California during the 60's was Moona Lisa.
She ended each show saying "Happy Hallucinations, Honeys!"

Oh, joy.  I just realized Super Suck Sunday is looming.  It's always a bummer after having Knapp for two Sundays of excellence to suddenly realize it's time once again for Jorch and The Submerging Artists.  The manic depression syndrome of late night radio.

Morgus

At least tonight's guest is Linda Howe's monthly visit - she literally takes over for 3 hours doing her own recorded interviews of her own guests and Noory takes a nap... ;)
