Yes, due to comments like that, I decided to look into Lott's claim that blacks in nearby towns go into Ferguson and what that is supposed to prove. Though there is a chance that he is telling the truth, it seems more likely that he is lying about this as much as he lies that 'more guns causes less crime.'

These are the adjacent cities.  He mentions there are seven, which is true, but he doesn't tell you that three of them have populations of less than 1,500 and that only one of them has a population of around 90% (though that is the largest).

These are the towns, population and percentage of African Americans

Ferguson's population was 21,203 at the last census and was 67.4% African American

Florrisant is north of Ferguson but it has a population of over 50,000, is largely white and is cut off from Ferguson by the 270.

Total population of the six African American towns adjacent to Ferguson as of 2010 census: 36,511 approximate total African American population: 29,864, 81.8% African American. Adding Ferguson's population and the adjacent towns populations together totals 57,714 of which African Americans make up 76.5% (not the 90% he claimed).

The only way Lott can make these numbers match what he claims is if he believes that only African Americans from the adjacent cities go into Ferguson.

Also, his claim of what Justice Department cited as racial bias left out a great deal of what the Justice Department reported. This is part of it:

"Ferguson’s law enforcement practices overwhelmingly impact African Americans. Data collected by the Ferguson Police Department from 2012 to 2014 shows that African Americans account for 85% of vehicle stops, 90% of citations, and 93% of arrests made by FPD officers, despite comprising only 67% of Ferguson’s population. African Americans are more than twice as likely as white drivers to be searched during vehicle stops even after controlling for non-race
based variables such as the reason the vehicle stop was initiated, but are found in possession of contraband 26% less often than white drivers, suggesting officers are impermissibly considering race as a factor when determining whether to search. African Americans are more likely to be cited and arrested following a stop regardless of why the stop was initiated and are more likely to receive multiple citations during a single incident."

Finally, while Wiki is likely not complete, I can find no statement on the "Ferguson Unrest" wiki page by either Obama or Holder that would have inflamed the situation. This is the quote wiki gives on the situation from Obama: On September 24 at the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama described the racial tensions at Ferguson as a failure to live up to America's ideals, and said that, "n a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri â€" where a young man was killed, and a community was divided. So yes, we have our own racial and ethnic tensions."

Wiki further states: On November 24, minutes after a prosecuting attorney announced that a grand jury decided not to indict police officer Darren Wilson, President Obama urged calm and restraint in Ferguson, saying racial discrimination and distrust of police cannot be resolved by "throwing bottles".

This is the quote from Holder:  On September 4, Eric Holder announced that the Justice Department will investigate Ferguson police force for possible misconduct or discrimination, saying that, "[w]e have determined that there is cause for the Justice Department to open an investigation to determine whether Ferguson police officials have engaged in a pattern or practice of violations of the U.S. constitution or federal law.”[11] Attorney General Holder indicated that an overhaul similar to a recent agreement with the Albuquerque police department over use of excessive force could be called for in Ferguson. "It's pretty clear that the need for wholesale change in that department is appropriate," Holder said

So, wiki could have left out an inflammatory quote from Obama or Holder and maybe only African Americans from the adjacent suburbs go into Ferguson, but the far more probable answer is that Lott is a racist, partisan lying hack who dresses himself up as a statistician/economist.

Really awful first half. Lott ran his bizarre figures to disprove what he referred to as "the Obama administration's" inquiry into policing in Ferguson twice. On the second occasion, a caller was putting some of the above statistics forward. Noory cut right across him and said something like 'You've already cast doubt on those numbers, haven't you, John?' and Lott rambled on again with his obtuse twisting of the plain statistics. When he was done it was evident, but not a surprise, that Noory had not only interrupted the caller, but had cut him off.
Lott was also allowed to ramble on about the Trayvon Martin case, focussing on discussion during the trial of the exact number of times George Zimmerman's face had been slammed into the sidewalk. Nothing to do with Baltimore or the police, but far be it from Noory to pull him back. Very uncomfortable listening, to say the least.

I missed the second half of the show. Given expat's comments on Bob Zimmerman, I wish I'd missed the first half and heard the second.

For me, I found it a bit odd that Art would be pushing me along. In all my years in radio I've never had a host demand not once but three times "on air" to shorten my replies, even though, as I protested on air, that you don't ask a profound question and then tell your guest to keep their answer to two or three words, or just one word: "yes" or "no". I have no problem with Art's adversarial approach. I welcome it. As you all know, just reading this Facebook stream and my "comments" page at Hogueprophecy.com, I enjoy the good fight. However, when I am on a radio show with the host on the level of an Art Bell, I do expect from him a higher standard of professionalism. I expect the host to have "read" my work, be versed in my world view, so they can go after my views "with authority" and not sound like he or she is taking a crack at me, like some of you do, amateurishly uninformed. So, I am a bit offended by Art attacking me from what I feel was a place of ignorance. I felt like his knowledge of my work last night did not extend very far from the few questions that guests are asked to send to a host to help generate talking points. By the way this is a custom in radio that I do support. Usually these questions are only used as an outline, a catalyst to generate a flow between me and the host that takes the show on its own arc and narrative. Some of Art's and my best classic shows were born from this process. Now then, on another matter. After so many years having on his show since 1994 I think Art ought to finally understand and accept the reality that if you ask a profound question you have to give your guest some time to set up the background. What Melody and Nancy Pippo said in this stream is also my view. Profound questions take time to answer. The fact that I was denied an hour but rushed along, its seems, to fill Art's show with three-hours worth of answers in only two, is not the kind of thing I expect coming from a major league radio host. This isn't KRAP Radio. Dark Matter ought to be held to a higher standard.
