“You’re the ninth caller!  I know cause I just used mah fingers and never got to mah toes!”

That's up-to-date Noory. Literally "digital."

Heh heh.

Hah!

Is that Ian's wife? She's certainly attractive. Kind of has a Sondra Locke thing going on. Maybe Ian should consider getting more into a Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry frame of physical conditioning to do her justice and a little less Comicon ready.  ;)

Pump some iron, Ian!

You'll be glad you did.

Overlooking the fact Prince Philip is a renowned racist and major loon, his statement is correct.  I've talked to many people who've traveled to China and heard story after story about animals offered in markets, restaurants, and especially street vendors.  Seemingly nothing was/is off limits.

A very good friend of mine was sent to China by his employer, a major US food conglomerate, to lay ground work for the opening of a production facility.  One evening his Chinese hosts insisted he go out to dinner with them.  They took him to a place that was more menagerie than restaurant, and he said the stench was overwhelming as soon as he stepped out of the car.  There was no menu, just dozens of cages and tanks from which he was to select his entree.  He saw rats, monkeys, bats, pangolins (which he'd never heard of), eels, insects, etc.  He went with a chicken, which was duly delivered to his table completely intact, including a number of singed feathers.  He couldn't bring himself to eat a single bite.  The combination of the presentation of his meal, the stench, and the glee with which his Chinese hosts happily consumed rodents and something resembling fox was too much for him.

Yikes.

Well if/when China is full blown sci-fi capable, as Dr MD MD points out, maybe they can 3D print realistic meat from plant proteins and forego these events that make me think of the Indiana Jones monkey brains scene and Jabba the Hutt's quick live snack bowl.

Indians (real Indians from India) had a real problem with that scene as no one there actually does that and a good percentage of the population is actually vegetarian.

The Prince might be but I cannot find much wrong with any of his quotes!  ;) He certainly isn't politically correct but hilariously correct in much of his statements, truth sometimes hurts. And his royal attitudes and lack of self-awareness is epic. Too bad they have moved him into a Biden-like basement and he doesn't do public stuff anymore.  Due to his non politically-correct 'gaffs.'

One of the biggest sources for endangered species, and ones that aren't -yet- is the Chinese penchant for fake "medicine" and novelty of eating strange creatures.

Chinese company's business practices makes the Siemens AG scandal look like small potatoes. Not only is the military and Party ofteninvolved in much of the businesses and the various theft/spying but also the workers are heavily exploited. In some cases they need suicide nets so that workers can't kill themselves. And these are not prison camps but just the factories - in which really are small towns with barracks etc for workers- where most of our gadgets are made.  In the past often females from the country were used. I was told "they have smaller hands so better workers." And they provide most of the income for their families back home and cannot lose their job. Not needed in rural areas so they move to the coastal areas to work in factories. "Factory tours" are often given to foreign investors and business partners that can involve them- if you catch my drift. When you buy Chinese goods (as we all do) you are supporting slavery, communism, sexual exploitation, counterfeiting, corruption, and lots and lots of pollution.

Yeah, I've never bought the "worker's paradise" bit.

I worker for a short while with the PLAAF personnel sent here as part of the Peace Pearl program in the late 80s.  Their technical people were never alone with us, there was always a commissar present in meetings, as well in one-on-one conversations.  In most cases these political officers were also their interpreters.  It was very obvious they were not engineers or operational types due to the difficulties they had in translating technical/aviation terminology.  (The funniest example was translating "hydraulic ram" as "water goat.")  It was also obvious the rest of the Chinese contingent were terrified of them.

One of their senior officers got arrested shoplifting at a Meijers just outside WPAFB, and was recalled to the PRC almost immediately.  Word was he was executed for embarrassing the government, but it was never confirmed that I'm aware of.

Spittake at "hydraulic ram" as "water goat."  The Telegraph, I think it was, used to have a great section in which readers would send in funny translations from around the world but China seemed best. This was many years ago but I can confirm that visiting Chinese like our supermarkets and such. Always baffled me. This likely has changed as their country has become more developed etc.

Russians used to have (maybe they still do, idk) a "political officer" on vessels. This was a few years back but a friend of mine was over there and over indulged matching some business partners drink for drink and also ate their food. Got ill and was hanging out in the hotel recovering. Finally was healthy enough to catch his flight. Delay at airport. Military situation of some kind. Someone taken away. Flight canceled. So back to suite. Back to flight next day and longlines and paperwork. Government official grabs him and starts berating airport/customs/military staff. Hustles him through. He gets his passport back and now had special visa for entry. Apparently the Party guy he partied with had clout and appreciated his drinking ability. Many high level business deals there is a 'government partner' who sits in on meetings. I joked, but not haha, I wonder what is on your phone and computer now! But seriously he said he wasn't allowed to bring company phone or computer except a new one with only the paperwork for the specific project deal on it. And never put in a usb you get there or use their wifi.

If that television were beaming into a dead, or mean, baby, he would have had plenty to say.
His interest was certain piqued when McTaggart started talking about "selling babies."

He even wondered what the current pricing would be. It seemed even she got a creepy vibe from his sudden interest and actual questions versus the usual Norway style of just letting guests ramble and spitting out lines like "interesting take," "how do you do what you do," "that's true," and "where can listeners get your book."

It seems only fitting that whoever eventually takes Noory’s place should continue the Snorge tradition of making people “disappear,” by never mentioning Snorge and acting like he never existed.

Indeed, Peter was a class act. I liked his folksy delivery, yet he always retained his dignity. In short, a gentleman, which is an endangered species these days. I seem to recall that Art once dumped Peter,  at least for a while.

C2C on George's watch is like a corrupt government in a tiny communist nation, where if the leader feels threatened by someone, they disappear, never to be spoken of again.

Yeah he went off on some strange tangents but just the fact that somebody was a guest on a nationwide program stating the dangers from the Chinese, and communism in general, was refreshing and unusual.  The cannibalism stuff is real, at times.

"“If it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane, and if it swims and is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it.” -Prince Philip at WWF Fundraiser, 1986.

I think that guest exaggerated the dangers from the Chinese. He practically demonized them!

I don't doubt that Chinese people eat things that seem weird to Westerners. I just take issue with the notion of Chinese people eating human babies, whether their own or their neighbors' babies.

Most of your links had to do with cannibalism stemming from political hatred or supplements made from human embryos or fetuses -- as opposed to eating babies due to hunger, which was the guest's claim. I don't have enough knowledge on this topic to refute any of that.

But speaking of people eating weird things, did you know it once was common in this country for people to eat "offal" tissues such as hearts, kidneys, brains, entrails. throats, thyroids and so forth?

I'm not going to pretend to be disgusted by this, even though the most exotic thing I eat is raw tuna!

Coincidentally, I happened to listen to Somewhere in Time last Saturday and Art had an update from Peter.  A show from 10/27/99.  This was then followed with Art talking with Jane Seymour about, ironically, “Somewhere in Time,” the movie. It was quite enjoyable.  Man, did he ever love that movie.

Great radio.  Hard to believe it’s been over 20 years since that show was first broadcast.  From that to this doofus.

Yes, thanks for the reminder of that moment of enjoyment.  I have boycotted Coast, but not Somewhere in Time.  Norry could learn from the wisdom of his forefather, Art Bell, and partake of the enthusiasm and credibility of Peter once more.

Listen and learn, Norry, you can still correct the errors of your ways.

Nothing wrong or particularly weird with 'offal' actually a lot of nutrients and vitamins in them. I would stay away from brains though due to prion diseases, even though in some places 'brains and eggs' is still popular.

Yahoo news but from the AFP wire which is generally pretty accurate and is a mainstream news service. Chinese Flesh Banquets. 1968, not centuries ago but, relatively, recently or some ancient tale like Thyestes.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/flesh-banquets-chinas-cultural-revolution-remain-unspoken-50-065004190.html

“There were beheadings, beatings, live burials, stonings, drownings, boilings, group slaughters, disembowellings, digging out hearts, livers, genitals, slicing off flesh, blowing up with dynamite, and more, with no method unused.” In 1968 a geography instructor named Wu Shufang was beaten to death by students at Wuxuan Middle School. The body was carried to the flat stones of the Qian river where another teacher was forced at gunpoint to rip out the heart and liver. Back at the school the pupils barbecued and consumed the organs."

Even a 20 year old show that you heard then and have heard before on a repeat is often better than the Dave Norway version of C2C!

And, oddly, the news breaks and political subjects Art and callers bring up are almost the same issues as today! Gun grabs, weather changes (global warming and 'Quickening') , odd weather anomalies , doomsday and endtimes predictions, civil war predictions, militias, crooked politicians, illegal immigration, China, North Korea, the ex-Soviet Union, 'who won the debate?," terrorism and on....

Thank God for this forum.  I haven't been here in a long time.  I just tried listening to last night's show (October 22, 2020 with Dr. Scott Keller).  How do you ruin a show about Edgar Cayce?  How?!  It's LOW HANGING FRUIT!  The tried and true fare that C2C was built on!  You have to WORK to screw up a discussion (supposedly) about Cayce.  I kept trying and trying, forcing myself to back up and re-listen to be sure it wasn't just me - but they kept getting off topic, scratching behind one another's ears and giggling like school girls.  F*&# that!  I had to bail out.  I wanted to beat the computer with a baseball bat then curl into a fetal position and forget how things ever got this bad, then I remembered you.  The folks of Bellgab who GET IT.  I could tell at least one person, if not 772 persons, that I was unnerved and annoyed to the point of turning my back on the beloved C2C today.  Today I fell, soldiers.  I fell to the ground and COULD NOT GET UP.  But because of YOU I didn't have to beat the computer with said baseball bat.  Because of you fine soldiers who continue the war and get in here and point out the awful drivel that the show sometimes becomes.   That is all.

Why you expect a Democratic controlled House to vote for impeachment of one of their own?

IF the Democrats win the WH there is going to be so much infighting between the far left and the more centrist Dems - if there is damning evidence (today the Deep State is denying there is evidence of Biden wrongdoing on hard drives/phones) the leftists will want Biden ousted for the more 'progressive' Harris.

You have a crack addict son of the Vice President of the United States with zero expertise in the energy industry nor international finance raking in millions and millions from shady companies in shady countries and our intelligence agencies think this is perfectly normal. Incredible, the swamp is far swampier than anybody imagined. Biden has been filling his pockets for decades using his pathetic son and his brothers as his bag men.

If Trump manages to win this election there will be bedlam.

It’s astonishing to me that something like political polls and the MSM in general have been so discredited over the last 4 years that people would go right back to faithfully believing in them. It’s almost like many, if not most, have almost no capacity for memory at all. Truly astonishing! :D
