Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

Isn't the whole idea of bumper music to indicate the show is going to commercial or coming back from one?  Art of course took that to a whole new level.

Seems to me anything upbeat and bouncy does the job, slow and boring - not so much.

I think it can set the mood of the show. Sometimes that's not relevant, but other times it can be very relevant. If you've got a really good topic, or intend to ask a stinger of a question, a related song can help set the mood. An example would be that, say, you had a guest that was talking about problems with the war in Iraq during those days.  You could play something like "sky pilot" by the Animals to usher in the topic or support it. George often uses Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction" for that.

Honestly,if you got terse emails from me its because I got them from you. I ONLY give back what I receive.

Eric Burden and the Animals are always good.  Or the Monkees!!  I'm a Believer.

George, I entirely understand why you would use the Art Bell era music. It's that show, after all, and you wouldn't change the Star Wars theme just because a different director did the first movie.

But, and this is entirely selfish for me, ask Wells for some of his music. God almighty that guy has the BEST bumper music repertoire on local or national radio. Every time I listen, he whips out some ridiculously obscure but astoundingly awesome music. Give him a few extra bucks a week to do the bumper music choices that you don't do.

Good ones - I like More than a Feeling too.

Of course.  Their classic hit of all time.  You're all right, Roy.   ;)  I'm afraid it's just "too popular," though.

Nighthawk

I feel that the UFO phil song should replace the opening music. Or at the very least it should be fit in at least once a night. Kind of like how the somewhere over the rainbow song is.

Right back at ya'!   ;D   8)  I see what you mean about "too popular" too.

SciFiAuthor

Oh I have a good question for George:

George, back in the day Art Bell would get all manner of strange things in the mail. Most notably, was "Art's Parts", a purported chunk of wreckage from a UFO. It made for lots of interesting listening.

Do you ever get anomalous or bizarre things like that in the mail that might make for good listening if you talked about them?

Hell, I'm such a Boston fan, I'd go "all Boston, all the time."  Of course the show would completely crater but at least I'd be in my "Scholz zone."  ;D

Oh... Hell.......NO!       For all that is humane and good, please no.

Not true, not the first few.

They were constructive criticisms in the true sense of the word.  I listed a few items and honestly thought you didn't realize you were doing it and was trying to be helpful to the host of a show I liked.

That was before I was even aware of the GNS thread at the GLP website.  When I found out you were being hammered on all this already, your responses made more sense.

Tom would probably even be a great guest.  George likes the musicians, and Tom has a Master's from MIT.

Yes, sir.  He's kind of reclusive but an absolute genius.  I just wish Scholz wasn't such a perfectionist.  I've always been greedy for more albums than we got over the decades.   I shouldn't complain about perfection though.

Then maybe dig into the treasure trove of upbeat catchy songs from the 80's, e.g. from B-52's, Talking Heads, the Police, etc. - the list goes on and on.

... Firstly, I know I'm going to be accused of being Tommy...

Let's talk about that.  You come here and make quite a few pro-Noory posts - no problem there, but you also insist on posting and re-posting the idea that we've blown an opportunity by not engaging George and should have been nicer.

Absolutely and demonstrably false.  Most people were very polite, and we've posed many questions - which were mostly ignored.

You come here and suggest we are trolls that will soon be starting up an Art Bell Sucks thread:

Quote from: SciFiAuthor on August 17, 2013, 07:37:46 PM
Well, we might as well take bets. How long will it be before an "Art Bell Sucks" thread appears from these trolls. Will it be: 1. Before his new show starts. 2. Within a month. 3. After a month. I'm going with #2.

Hell, it's probably the same people that used to trash Art back in the day on the internet. George has it easy compared to that.

You come here and suggest we are just a bunch of haters that will soon be hating on Art:

Quote from: SciFiAuthor on August 20, 2013, 09:55:16 AM
I don't buy it. People have motives, and some people's motives are anger and negativity. When the old Art hating boards show back up, of which there used to be many, I'm guessing that the vehement Noory haters here will be over there hating on Art within six months. It's just the nature of this stuff.

As far as long posts, sorry, I don't believe in dumbing things down. I believe in articulate posting that cannot be misconstrued as opposed to the caveman grunting that most people use to communicate on the internet.

That's not supposed to raise suspicions?

On top of that, you seem to be the only person asking tough questions that he answers - ("what are your weaknesses as a broadcaster", "why do you seem to drift during an interview").  Heck, these are great question and I'm glad you got them answered, I'm just suggesting they seem planted because they were the only hard hitting questions he answered, they were both yours, and you both came on at the same time.  But hey, keep it up, at least he's answering.

So what else are we supposed to think about this.  Why wouldn't people think you are one of George's PremRat underlings.  Who else could you be.  I for one hope you are the big man himself - how epic would that be to have George and Tommy here riffing off each other during the show.

onan

The suggestion that the use of Art's bumper music was never an issue until Art told us of his return is (to quote another poster) is bollux.

Although not nearly as often as the current conversation, it has been discussed. And to be frank your inability to select different interesting and related music really does demonstrate how your show and team lack any originality.

That is probably your worst offense. I can't speak to recent specifics, but more than 3 years ago your occupying of the host chair was never more than a "I can be Art Bell too". For me, that is the most bothersome of your entertainment choices. I have little doubt you have talent in the news business but to this day, c2c is the same set as Art's C2C, just the paint has faded and the dialogue hasn't been changed.

It's like you got the keys to dad's car and ran the thing off the road and hoped no one would notice.

George,
Could you convince George Knapp to post in the George Knapp section please?

Quote from: Gnoory on August 23, 2013, 12:28:29 AM
I think the  bumper music bothers you because art is coming back, but we have used it on the show during Art's reign and now mine.Honestly no one brought this us until his announcement.
Its not about us, its about the show and its the shows identity.Like the open and close I would think AB will have new, fresh music and not old c2c music

If you want something upbeat and fresh that a lot of people may not have heard, try something from indie/pop/rock up-and-coming bands like Little Dragon, CSS, or Asteroid Galaxy Tour.  There must be something is there you can use that no one else is.

Yeah, it would have been great to have more from them.  That perfectionism can really get in the way.  And of course the early death of Brad was a huge loss.

No, I actually act like a human being to the guy. I wasn't the only one who did. I was careful to use words like "some" and "Not all" specifically to avoid people misconstruing me and thinking I was attacking the entire membership when I wasn't. I was attacking the jackoffs that were trying to run Noory off with bullshit.

Well, it's not my problem if you didn't notice those caveats. I put them in there specifically and carefully. I was talking about the people who were attacking Noory for no reason. You weren't one of those. Like said in my last post to you, scroll up, there are some arch-jackoff trolls in this thread that we should have all attacked the hell out of. Instead, you chose to attack me instead of them. That's friendly fire, bud.

"Most people were very polite, and we've posed many questions - which were mostly ignored."

Well, what you mean by "most" is the same thing I meant by "most" that you missed. As far as ignoring, well, look, the guy's answered pretty much every question I've put to him. It's called tact. If you walk up to someone on the street and say "Hey, Asshole, I fucking hate you and I'm going to set the stage that I hate you before we even start talking, but would you mind giving me directions to 7-11?"  you won't get an answer. Well what do you expect for an answer? Tone it down, and you'll get whatever answer you want. Act like you would in real life and you'll be fine.

"You come here and suggest we are trolls that will soon be starting up an Art Bell Sucks thread:"

I'll make a bet with you. About 20% of the participants of this thread will indeed take part in some kind of Art Bell Sucks thread. Don't be naïve, they aren't here to voice a legitimate criticism. They are here to be negative assholes, and they will negative towards Bell too. You won't, but there are people here that will. I'm betting that in a year, you and I could go on the net and find the resurrections of the anti-Art Bell threads that WILL happen, and some of the posts will look very familiar. Willing to make that bet? You're not that stupid, you won't.

"On top of that, you seem to be the only person asking tough questions that he answers - ("what are your weaknesses as a broadcaster", "why do you seem to drift during an interview").  Heck, these are great question and I'm glad you got them answered, I'm just suggesting they seem planted because they were the only hard hitting questions he answered, they were both yours, and you both came on at the same time.  But hey, keep it up, at least he's answering."

I'm not planted, I told you exactly how to find out who I am. I'll tell you in PM and back it up until the cows come home. I am not Tommy, I do not work for Premiere, and I am entirely acting under my own auspices for the benefit of everyone here. What I am is smart enough to know an opportunity when I see one. I loved the old C2C with Bell, and I know George isn't doing as well, and hasn't satisfied me. But I also know that when that guy asks why, you should answer instead of attack. What's not smart about that approach? You tell me.

"So what else are we supposed to think about this.  Why wouldn't people think you are one of George's PremRat underlings.  Who else could you be.  I for one hope you are the big man himself - how epic would that be to have George and Tommy here riffing off each other during the show."

I think you're the only person that thinks that, and you're breathing far more into me than what is there. It's called undue paranoia. There actually are people out there that can act, on the internet, like they would in real life. Wow, like that should be shocking. The fact is you're absolutely flat wrong about me. I'm willing to prove it. And when that happens, and I noticed you didn't PM me when I asked for it the first time, do have the common decency to admit it publically.

While there is still time, modify your post to differentiate what you are saying from what PB is saying.

I used quotation marks to differentiate. I didn't use a global quote, so I could address each statement specifically. Not standard for here, I know, but it seemed better than a group of disjointed responses.

Although we had a some similarity we also had some differences. I think noory sucks, I don't think vulgarity made for a salient argument. But, make no mistake, noory deserves truck loads of criticism.

I don't think the posters here (the ones that have been here) are going to turn on Art... I have been wrong before.

So, Dave has mentioned a few times now about his frog voice.  Today its "day two of the frog voice."  Is that code for "I burned my mouth and throat on pizza rolls again but I can't say that again on the radio?"
