Earlier this evening, a few pages back, noory stated that "the stations like the variety", and his team listened to the stations. Therein is a huge part of the problem. (Ya writtin' this down George?) A GOOD radioman doesnt listen to the stations. He listens to the audience! The folks at home tuned in! The people who ARE the ratings!!! After all, arent they the target? Arent you trying to gather up more listeners?
Ratings are a tricky game, and I can tell you, overnight ratings are laid out differently than dayparts. Losing the longtime flamethrowers had to hurt. You may have more stations now, but Coast has lost the big stations. Art did you a huge favor by going to satelite. He very easily couldve gathered up 10 or 15, well placed, 50 thousand watt beasts and laid waste to C2C in mere months. That many big stations would nearly cover all the territory your collection of peashooters do at this time. Less fuss, less muss.
Bottom line, you must put your listeners at the TOP of the list. Not the stations, not the corporation hacks, and certainly not the sales reps. You do the show right and the sales reps will be too busy taking orders rather than giving them to you. Just my ten cents worth...for what its worth.
