Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

Geoffrey Simmons spoke about disaster preparedness and inteligent design.  George asked, "how did you go from being interested in disaster preparedness to your interest in intelligent design...and vice-versa?"  Huh?  And then later, referring to the battle between intelligent design and evolution, "When will this subject bust through, to where people will say, one way or the other, that's the way it is?"  What?  I think it might be secret code talk directed his faithful followers at the NHZ instucting them to call in and heap praise on the dear leader.

Katherine Albrecht gets in my head.  Yes, she's a little paranoid, but because of her I'm more careful about giving out my personal information.

I recently went to a Medispa about getting laser hair removal.  Before I could get a price or talk to anyone they wanted a copy of my driver's license, work history, SS number, etc.  They also wanted me to sign off on a privacy policy that wasn't attached.  The release said that I could obtain a copy from the receptionist.  I wondered what they were hiding.  The receptionist told me that because they were a medical office they had to comply with HIPPA.  Honestly, I don't know what is on a HIPPA form.

I told them that we weren't at the point where I felt that they needed all of that crap.  If I became a patient I would give them any information that they need, but not before I choose them to do the work.  They refused to allow me to talk to anyone.  I went home and wrote a scathing letter to them about personal privacy.  I also wrote a nasty review on Yelp.

If it hadn't been for listening to Katherine Albrecht I probably would have just complied.  She makes me paranoid and a little paranoia is good for you.

Check this out.

coast to coast am is dead.

Sadly I have to agree.  There is not much more to be said...

The reality is that Art Bell was the show.  He is an inventive, thought-provoking man who created something truly unique.

George however, is a clueless corporate stooge, put firmly in that seat to sell 'product.'  He was chosen because he is a gullible, malleable man who will go along with anything, whether it damages the show or not, as long as he receives unjustified praise and a fat paycheck.

I wonder how long it will be before the decision is made to stop running classic 'Art' shows altogether and program only 'best of' George Noory?  I suppose it's still a bit early to scrub all traces of Art's history with Coast to Coast.

I note that George doesn't heap praise on Art the way he used to, in fact I get the feeling he holds a sizable contempt for him.  It seems painful to him to have to mention Art's name on occasion...

HIPPA was signed into action in the 80's by the federal government and it guarantees a right to privacy to anyone receiving medical treatment or rehabilitation. Its' original purpose, one of which, was to provide anonymity to alcoholics and drug addicts to receive treatment without facing the stigma that society places upon it. This came after the medical community agreed that addiction was a disease and not a moral affliction. So, the bottom line is, a doctor or drug counselor cannot verify that a specific person is currently or has received treatment unless that person specifically gives them written permission to do so (and it has to be specific...like a son signing off for his mother). This is known as a "release of information". Violation of HIPPA usually results in a fine and/or loss of employment.

i designed a website for a woman who is a medical coder.  well, let's say, i didn't really "design" a site (i'm not that skilled), but i installed a content management system for her and customized it to her liking.  anyway, she's totally governed by HIPPA in everything she does.  she wanted to be able to send/receive patient documents via email, and she thinks that because i installed an SSL certificate on her domain that "it's now secure."  she didn't seem to understand the vast sea of difference between being "secure enough" and being HIPPA compliant.  i kept telling her again and again that i would not trust my HIPPA compliance and my company's reputation/future to anything other than an accredited, certifiably HIPPA compliant medical records transfer company.  she doesn't want to spend the $50 per month to set that up.  finally, i went ahead and sent her an email explicitly advising her not to use email for the purpose of medical record transmission, just so i could document that i in fact DID make it clear to her.  you never know.  she could make a wrong move in the future and blame/sue me for her ignorance and frugality.  HIPPA is serious shit.  some people just don't get it, and are willing to risk an entire company in the course of halfheartedly complying with it.  not good.  trust your medical records to nobody.  she's a great example of what can happen.

Looks like tonight is "floating format"  I know ...shit floats...with George changing guests every 1/2 hour. I miss Art, even though I was super pissed when Art got married sooooooooooooo soon after Ramona's death.  I want Ar,. or George Knapp or Ian.

i wasn't pissed or anything, but when i heard, i knew it was likely the end of art's passion for the show.

Strel

That whole marriage / internet relationship of Art's struck me as incredibly bizarre, as was the show explaining the circumstances surrounding his wife's death...wasn't actually sure how to absorb that...

Anyway, as regards the show, it's only speculation, but perhaps Coast had became an albatross around Art's neck and he'd grown weary of it.  After all, when he had the reigns, he ran most everything on the tech side as well as preparing for and interviewing (REALLY interviewing) the guests.  Unlike the current host, Art had actual responsibilities on a nightly basis.  He had to work.  He couldn't just sit there like a damned puppet interjecting 'absolutely' or 'exactly', oblivious to everything except his next goldseller ad...

P.S.  Isn't it charming when George suddenly pulls the embarrassing non sequitur out of his ass, rendering the guest silent and confused for several seconds... classic!

robey1129

Over the years of listenin' to Art, I felt like I became very close and familiar to him. I figured his decision to remarry was his to do. We all have different paths to walk. Art is the kinda guy that did not hesitate to share that kinda stuff with us. When he talked to us about his private life, I got the feeling he was sharing with his family.
What the hell do we know about Snoory?

robey1129

In the tradition of "Hi Bob" of the 70's Bob Newhart Show, I heard the new college drinking craze is you gotta chug a beer when Snoory says "Absolutely!".
Good thing I don't party anymore...I'd be drunk already.

That's one of the things that I admire most about Art, say what you will about the man, but he lives life on his terms.  He withstood an incredible amount of criticism over the years for the show's subject matter, but he kept right on going, never allowing himself to be compromised.

George has no personality.  He's a media prostitute; completely malleable by whichever broadcast network he's servicing at the time.

So...dude calls in and says his grandmother bought him a "shadow box". He goes on and says one night he saw a shadow outside the box and it gave him "the shivers". George responds "I just love those stories" and goes straight to asking his guest a completely off-topic question.
Now...am I missing something here? Does everyone know what a "shadow box" is? Does Snoory? I'm thinkin' that if I went out and got me a shadow box, I'd expect it to produce some shadows or I'd want my money back!

Lol, I caught that too.  I was waiting for George to ask what a shadow box is, but he held off...

He's said 'absolutely about 4 times already.  I can't believe that's spontaneous, that has to be contrived.  You would have to catch yourself doing that.  I think he's just using that to poke at his critics.  If he's really not aware of repeating that, then we've vastly underestimated how 'unequipped' George is.  But I say that has to be a gimmick.

Ugh...George asking the fourth guest in a row "how did you get started....", he even asked one guest that question twice...

Was that George last night humoring a truther?  Was that George being completely vague as to his personal position on the matter?  Yep.  Sure was.  Then it was floating format.  No.  It was worst.  It was seven guest jammed into half hour time slots, it was "George Noory's Conveyor Belt Circus of the Paranormal Everybody Gets the Same Question Extravaganza."
Because when your interviewing skills suck, speed it up.

Each night George has 30 or so cue cards in front of him with the word "AB-SO-LUTE-LY" on them.  This saves time by taking the place of engaging dialogue that might surpass a sentence or two, or heaven forbid, a meaningful paragraph.

I couldn't stop laughing when I read this one.

So, George isn't perfect.  What the heck.  At least he's nice (most of the time).

That show was awful last night. George only had to ask his usual three questions before moving to the next guest and asking the same ones. The guy has no interest in preparing and the callers of course were zombie-like as usual.

So far I have only heard a small part of the paranormal investigation show (I'll listen on stream link during the week) but I must say my jaw dropped when the one woman claimed she could talk to spirits through her smoke detector! She asks questions and it beeps once for yes, twice for no.

God how I wish Art or Ian had been interviewing her so we could have had either pointed questions (Ian) or subtle hilarious satire (Art). Instead George agreed that you need to check the batteries before you assume your smoke detector is haunted.

I know this sound out there, but aren't we supposed to be "open-minded" when we listen to Coast.  I too, have had paranomral experiences involving smoke detectors.  I related it in the Paranormal Experiences thread.

I really do have some intelligent discourse with my smoke detectors, better than a few of the dates I have had recently.

I will have to go back and Stream the Thursday nite show.  From what I have read it is really a good one.

Another possible drinking game, specifically when he has multiple guests on one show is chugging a beer or taking a shot when he says, "How ARE you?" I hate that. Can't he simply say, "Welcome to the program?"

The heart of my issue was that I didn't feel that they had a right to ask.  It's also illegal to steal someone's identity.  I don't KNOW the people working behind the desk or who will be working there five or ten years from now.  Just because it's illegal isn't enough of a deterrent to an identity thief.  I'm not interested in leaving tons of personal information with a business that I may or may not work with.  I don't think it was unreasonable to want to know what they charge before I give them everything.

I think that's more of a sales technique than anything else. The more you forms you fill out, the more you follow their instructions the less likely you are to question them and the more likely you are to complete the purchase process.

Instead of backing advertisements for "disaster food", maybe Snoory should start peddling mattresses so his listeners can get a good night's sleep when he is on. Morticians and funeral homes don't normally have to advertise so he couldn't do that...for all the people that are bored "stiff"!
