As the argument goes, if you believe in the divinity of Jesus, a belief in creationism of some sort is required, as Jesus was sent to answer for the original sin of Adam and Eve, and without them, there is no need for Jesus. That's the argument, anyway.

I don't know if you call yourself a "Republican," MV, but if you do, then the answer is "yes."   If the 2012 Republican primary season has shown us anything, it's that anyone claiming to be a "Republican" MUST toe the line of extreme ideology or be politically purged, plain and simple.   Ideological purity and (pardon the term) homogeneity über alles.   And a major plank of that ideology is elaborate, strident ostracism of persons of non-hetero sexual orientation.
That Dick Cheney remains a Republican in good standing while occasionally advocating for his lesbian daughter --or hell, while even having a lesbian daughter-- only speaks for the tremendous cred he's built up with the Republican base through his having a part in the murder of countless thousands around the world.
What's a total mystery to me is how any gay or lesbian person in his/her right mind can claim to be a member of that party.

This goes a long with being a democrat and being pro life.  I've met a few democrats that were pro life and scared to admit it to their party peers.

No, it is not required. One can believe in God/Jesus and believe in evolution at the same time.

P.S. I love how the anti-war left takes a powder while there is a Democrat in the White House.

But, Analog, not everyone who believes in "(a) God" is a Christian; i.e., a believer in "the divinity of Jesus."   Lots of non-Christian "believers in (a) God."
A better counter to that line about "all believers ≠ Creationists" is: WHY NOT?  If you can stretch your mind to believe in a "supreme deity" (or any "deity" at all), why not go ahead and assert that he/it created everything?   Why wouldn't or why didn't he/it?
Why believe in --or be-- "a God" who didn't / couldn't create everything?

This lefty cuts Obama no special slack.   I think today's commitment to 10 more years in Afghanistan sucks.
But to paraphrase comic John Fugelsang, there's no point in blaming the national war hangover on the guy making breakfast.   P.S. - Can ya dig metaphor?

I guess if the believer concedes that speciation and mutation over time exists, which they obviously do, it presents a conundrum. Bear in mind, though, that I've been drinking since 5pm.

I think today's commitment to 10 more years in Afghanistan sucks.

It's the worst news I've heard recently ... and the media is so glib in their delivery of the phrase "Twenty- twenty-four," as if their insistent suckling on the teat of alliteration excuses the insanity of what they are reporting.  The reports I've seen state "twenty-twenty-four" as a closing remark, almost an afterthought instead of mentioning it up front.

Really?  2024?

President Wham-O had the nerve to state he is concerned about the various "costs" of the ongoing "war" in Afghanistan.

What's the invoice tally going to be in 2024 with "thousands" of "special forces" remaining despite the "pull out" in 2014?

Note to young people: Forget attending college, take a guaranteed shortcut to success by enrolling in DeVry's Drone Degree Program and learn drone repair and design, because that's some job security you can count on and as stable as becoming a mortician or opening a crematorium.

Drones create jobs! is the next credo I anticipate for bumper stickers.

"Our plant added 400 jobs last year, Diane, thanks to drones."

Imagine, Afghanistan drone operations until "twenty-twenty-four."

Jesus Christian Soldier Christ.

Re Obama's announcement of "10 more years in Afghanistan"--
I'm sure it's never planned this way, but every move like this that disgusts us un-American peacenik types just further proves that most anti-Obama sentiment is nothing but racism.   With moves like this, it can't be policy that Obama's detractors disagree with!   He gives the military-industrial complex just what it wants: perpetual pseudo-war for perpetual profits.   They are the real controllers of the American economy and polity, and so control the right-wing media message.   They have no policy basis for opposing Obama (excuse me: for excoriating and heaping contempt on Obama); he ain't hurting their bottom line a bit.   Domestically, in some ways he has governed to the right of Nixon!   So what else can it be?

*************************************************************
I won't clutter this up with nested quotes.  From Cam:

the various "costs" of the ongoing "war" in Afghanistan
They can find ways of paying for endless occupation, but the Republicans won't budge on anything like universal health care ~for Americans!   I wonder how many right-wingers in this country know that Bush & Co.'s tailor-made new constitution for Iraq included universal health care for Iraqis..?!?
"thousands" of "special forces" remaining despite the "pull out" in 2014
Numbers that high sort of undercuts their special-ness, don't it?   Bet yo' las' money that those "special forces" will consist largely of armed civilian "Xe" (ex-Blackwater) employees; their "special-ness" defined primarily de facto by their obscene paychecks and their level of steroid intake.
job security... as stable as becoming a mortician or opening a crematorium
Never, never mention crematoria in the context of current American political trends!

I had the misfortune of hearing 5 minutes of Hannity today...that's 300 seconds too many, but hearing that slimy putz talk about how he worked "a regular job"(roughly 25 years ago) topped off with "if you're in your mid twenties and only making mininum wage there's something wrong with you"

Well, it's that mentality that makes me pray for a Maoist revolution at any cost, just as long as that fucking clown has to scrub a Taco Bell toilet with his tongue.

Oddly, the place where I heard Hannity was a sub shop owned by a Kosovar Muslim. I guess he's been Hannitized. Let "freedom" ring.

The so-called conservatives dominating radio are all getting a little ripe.  I'd love to see ideologues replaced with critical thinkers, as long as they are funny and entertaining.

Pawn Vanity is one of the newer conservatives, but he's a stale turd.  He has nothing new to say, and meanwhile he was collective large fees for showing up at his so-called charity events.

we talked about this on a trainwreck episode a while back.  there was a story about how hannity's charity only gives a mere sliver of the proceeds to the wounded veterans (or whatever the charity is supposed to be doing).  the rest of the money was going to his travel expenses and other things that were entirely discretionary.

It's probably my fault for not getting Hannity. I'm not a "Great American", I'm more of a "middling citizen of the world"

Looking back at my statement now, I could probably get away with quoting myself in the Freudian Slippage thread.

I was so unimpressed with Barack Obama 4 years ago.  I saw right through him and rolled my eyes as these boards filled to the brim with swooning adulation for just one little man. The stench of retardation wafting about... well... it was more than any one human (this human) should have to suffer. For those who have only come around recently, here's a reminder of how retarded you once were:

The Liberal Messiah.  Only San Francisco would deify a politician to this extent.  It is a reflection of a socialist-minded person to personify their greatest ideals, therefore Obama is perceived as a human state of perfection as long as he espouses the drooling dreck their tiny little minds are looking for.

That's some severe retardation. I'm betting they (Progressives) don't feel like that now

Ya know, I don't mind being challenged. I am more than willing to admit I have been in error. But to be insulted is a bit much.

Most anyone that frequents this forum knows that (from my perspective) CoastGab isn't real friendly to liberals. At least Clinton, Obama, Gore, and a few more are commonly demonized. But reference a similar position about bush and the screams about how that isn't the issue spring forth like maggots on a dead fish.

I still do not think Obama is all that bad of a prez. And socialism isn't a synonym for shit. It is extremely narrow minded to think a one size fits all mind set will work. Ron Paul is against the current wars... I am with him. Ron Paul thinks taxation for public education is bad... I an not with him. He is an iconoclast... and as I have posted before iconoclasts rarely get elected.

I know we all get frustrated and angry secondary to our conceptualized world view. If we had a world with less than 150 people it possibly would not be so hard to tolerate.

No president is one of us. Not from the beginning of the country, never has a pres been one of the "lets stop over at bubba's and have a beer."

And honestly, Morford? really? A tempest in an outhouse.

I think the public schools in this country get way too much money. If Americans really think that to get tech savvy adults, we need to put kids in front of computers or use Nintendo Wii to get fit in PE, that's the problem. None of the principles of grammar, physics, and mathematics have changed in a hundred years.

In America, we cry about the stupidest things when it comes to education: Creationism, sex-ed, the list goes on. No wonder kids don't learn. Add to that, parents who have no business being parents. If you have to work 3 jobs, please don't have a kid. Just don't. I don't care what Alex Jones or the Bible says. Kids need a stable home! Schools cannot burden the responsibility of raging, neglected kids. Look at DC public schools and you can get a flavor of what I'm saying. When I worked at a DC public school, I'll never forget when a girl told me that a certain boy was absent because he is in the hospital. That morning on the bus, another student bashed his head into a window. It wasn't this incident that shocked me. It was how calm the kids were when she told me the story! It was as if this was normal or common.

The solution is not hiring more therapists and buying more goods. The solution is parenting. Public schools don't need much more than books and black boards.

So in response to your statement about Paul, funding is failing the public schools.

There is a middle ground here. I didn't say to increase funding especially by raising taxes. I do say that not funding public education is bad and will always be a bad idea. Yes parenting is often the problem... just think how bad it would be with little johnny getting no education.

The city govt in San Francisco (Harvey Milk etc) were also very supportive of Jim Jones (Communist) & the People's Temple.

This is in the news again because there's news of naming a USN ship after Harvey Milk (a Navy veteran).
