Do you males know that "birth control pills" are a hormone treatment which are indicated for various non-reproductive issues?

Wonder if Ms. Fluke's friend knows that a doctor can intervene for a patient with an insurance company and often get them to cover things that are medically necessary (as opposed to, er, recreational, cosmetic, optional, etc.)?

Actually, you can appeal most claims! This would probably be one of them. If a physician makes the case that it is for non-contraceptive use, and it is necessary treatment, then most companies will consider it.

Michael, your story about Target's cheap price of contraceptives makes me think of a Wal-Mart story. There is a diabetes medicine that Wal-Mart pharmacies sold for cheap cheap 5 bucks a month. The government said that this was too cheap and that Wal-Mart was not pricing their drugs fairly. Mom and pops yadda yadda. The same liberals who say it is expensive, MADE IT SO!

How does the consumer benefit in this case? He doesn't.

could you please link to an article about the above story?  i'd love to read it.

i've only been able to find these:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/25/us-diabetes-drugprices-idUSTRE75O27R20110625
http://www.drugstorenews.com/article/report-diabetes-drug-prices-walmart-kmart-rise-fast-rate

which indicate a rise in prices for said drugs at WalMart but don't indicate the Democrats are the cause.  i'm guessing that it was internal pressure from within the big box stores.  these stores were probably fine selling meds at a loss for a year or two but now  that they've converted customers from other stores they are ramping up prices to turn these formerly discounted meds into a profit maker

as for contraceptives ... i think part of this issue is basic economics.  if a woman wants contraceptive brand x but can't afford it, then use a cheaper, alternative method.  if the contraceptive is to be used as a treatment for a condition then the prescribing physician needs to convey that to the insurance company.  i'd say the patient needs to make that argument to the insurance company but since when do insurance companies listen to patients.  or doctors for that matter.

I went to my State's caucus today and it was a total joke.  Only 2 other people from my precinct showed up.  I'm not sure why I even went since none of the delegates will be selected or allocated based on the outcome of the caucus.  And the primary was canceled due to "budgetary considerations" by the Secretary of State and the State Legislature.  So in other words, my vote has absolutely no bearing on anything whatsoever.  Fuck this.  Representative government is dead.

You must be from Washington as well, General. I also went to my precinct caucus, or rather, I was my precinct caucus --- I was the attendee, the chair, the secretary and I elected myself the delegate to the GOP district convention later this month. I'm debating as to whether or not I'll wear my Nader/Gonzalez 08 shirt to it (actually this year will be the first time since I've been registered to vote which I won't be able to vote for Ralph Nader for President - I managed the hat trick in 2008 ... assuming Paul doesn't run as an independent I guess I'll probably default to Gary Johnson) ...

Though, in fairness to my neighbors, I suppose I should note that I live in a precinct that cast 93% of its vote for Obama in 2008, 3% for McCain and 4% for Other (Nader, Green, Socialist Liberation, Constitution, Libertarian and Write-In) so I kind of expected a low turnout for our GOP caucus going into the thing.

Wow. Not different from my neighborhood. Lucky thing is, most people are selling. They can't afford to live under the assholes they elected.

Yes, I'm a delegate now too.  I only went because it was my ONLY chance to vote for Ron Paul, even though it was just a meaningless, non-binding straw poll.  I think I'll wear my Savage Nation hat to the convention and complain loudly about Romney and the Republican establishment.  I doubt I'll be making any friends.

I'm not sure where you live but we had a pooled caucus with the rest of the district, as I think is the norm for most of the rest of the state outside the most remote areas. Three separate times before the pooled caucus adjourned and the precinct caucuses convened the district chairman announced the date/location of the King County convention. He didn't once announce the date/time of the district convention ... an important note since King County is the only one in Washington that elects delegates to the state convention from districts instead of the county.

Since only like 20% of the delegates elected actually bother to attend district/county conventions, it should still be fairly easy for Ron Paul to take the state's delegate slate - even after losing the straw poll - if the delegates elected for Paul actually attend the next-level convention.  I assume they're banking on the idea (and are probably correct) that most won't.

Same here, King County.  Mine was at a  school over there in West Seattle.
Didn't know about the District convention thing.  You should let me in on the details so I can go.

I think they're banking on a lot of people not knowing and just turning up to the county convention, but the district conventions are the only important ones in King County - the county one is just a pep rally. If enough RP supporters turn out at the district conventions - combined with Paul's majorities in all the northeastern counties - it should be fairly easy to slate the state delegation to the national convention with all Paul delegates, regardless of the straw poll.

So, go here -

http://www.kcgop.org/calendar/

- and look for your legislative district's caucus. Be sure you don't look for the legislative district meeting. The meeting is just the monthly business meeting that goes on perpetually. If you're in West Seattle I assume you're in the 34th district which is April 21 at time/location "TBD."

What  letdown this "1991 Obama" video was. Gee, he's part of the "gimme gang" that wants favoritism forever. Is this surprising? It's only the thesis of his whiny books. Nothing to see here, if they couldn't nail him with the Jeremiah Wright stuff, they'll never nail him at all. Next.

He looks like a dorkier Stanley Clarke too.

It's why I won't miss Breitbart. It's always overblown hype ala Alex Jones, endless hyperbole that tis only meant to get visitors to their myriad sites. And if this wormy child Ben Shapiro is Breibart's heir apparent, then conservatism is in worse shape than ever. I've heard that kid as a fill in on talk shows and he's an arrogant douche.

Speaking of Alex Jones, infowars.com is 'reporting' that the video released isn't the one Breitbart was talking about and was, in fact, put up on YouTube in 2008.

I could never stand Breitbart. I didn't like that he had to heavily edit his videos to make his points. Lame. There's so much more obvious stuff out there he could have focused on. He was an attention-whore, and it's too bad he didn't choose a healthier lifestyle.

I tuned into Hannity to hear the hyping of these videos. What a stupid video, and what a stupid host. Hannity sucks man.

For some reason, everytime I hear Hannity speak I somehow get the impression he's got a little boy's short dick.  Must be his voice, or manner of speech, or what he says.  Whatever, he should just keep quiet.

They were saying "Barack Obama was NOT vetted. This is the tape that should have been aired by the media." what they really shattered the Earth, huh. And to suggest that THIS was the reason Breitbart died.....talk about insult to injury!

Two carnival barkers. I think Breitbart was probably intelligent, but I think he was insincere and wanted to be famous instead of really being a true blue political operative. Hannity is a dumbass. Whatever his GOP masters want him to say, he will. Another guy who didn't serve in the military who is all for "the coming war with fill in the blank".  He's a grating American.

This could also fall under "Things that annoy you"...but as I walked out of the Boston Public Library, South Boston branch, I saw a somewhat familiar face about 10 feet in front of me, when I realized who it was, I walked away-refusing to hold the door for this person.

It was Obama's "Auntie Zeituni", the longtime illegal alien who resides in Boston public housing. BTW, she has the femininity of Bubba Smith.

        Two things...

1... This will be the most contentious GOP Convention since 1976.
2...The longer Ron Paul stays in, the more depressed I get. I like to imagine a scenario where he would get at least 25% of the vote in a general election, but each GOP primary where he remains in single digits is a confirmation that he's got no chance of ever cracking more than 8% in a general election.

There's enough ego and hatred among Romney,Santorum and Gingrich for this thing to drag on and on. I honestly can't believe Santorum is still in this...he reminds me of the worst of Bush 43, Quayle, Palin...there isn't an original thought or idea from that sweater-vested geek.
