It takes courage not to be passive - ©Quick Karl 2013

No disagreement there. Explaining a point of view without derision isn't passive it is wise.

Ok you got me... not sure what axe you are trying to grind. I have a few guesses, none really matter.

If you are suggesting ritilan is bad... well then don't take it. If you think psychiatry is superstition, don't follow the advice. Take your chances avoiding 12 packs of sugar. In the end you will be well served, I am sure.

If it works, great for you. If it doesn't there are fall back plans.

What I often forget when discussing psychotropic and anti-psychotic medications is the difference in context. And the family member I talk to has maybe 10 hours of internet searching. I get to see about 1500 patients a year. Over 85 percent of them are on some type of medication to treat some psychiatric diagnoses. There are always setbacks to treatment. Medication non-compliance, loss of support through agencies and family and intolerance to a medication.

But what I also get to see is a great deal of success with medications. I get to see patients have life changing events.

What almost always is out of my work is the patient that is on the periphery. I used to see children for assessments because a school principal or counselor that suspects some aspect of a mental illness. Schools usually rule out adjustment disorders and abuse from family before referring, but not always.

I do really hate talking to a yuppie mom that read on some website about the dangers of medications but has no operational insight, but lots of ego. I am not going to get into the rigors of drug testing. I will say however that the laws governing the reporting of side effects is more problematic than helpful.

Take it for what it is worth. Because, 1. you can't stop crazy. 2. kids that significantly act out, more often than not have significant family issues. 3. no one likes to think they may be mentally ill and face the public scrutiny from passerbys. Nonetheless, the statistics are on my side.

I just thought it was a hilarious video that is indicative of the larger problem in this country - a mother that is concerned for her child's welfare and future and an expert with legitimately questionable remedies that isn't listening to a word she is saying...

This is precisely why I never address psychotropic medication issues on this forum. Some, uh, "yuppie moms" on BellGab tend to make statements denying any usefulness of any drug while having no personal experience, only internet "facts" and second-hand stories.

What I find interesting, without judgement, is that so many Bell Gabbers are on various psychotropics, or battling some form of psychiatric condition. This is the only forum I've ever been involved with, so maybe it's just an internet thing, but I wonder if it's the sleepless nights leading to Art Bell's radio program leading to Bell Gab.

I'm not wording this very well because I'm tired, but I can deal with families who question medications; I can even talk with the docs about family objections and get things changed or educate the family a bit more.

But I can't deal with people on the internet who dismiss psychiatry and its tools of the trade.

Still, ChewMouse, you raise an interesting question -- Art Bell/C2C do attract a certain audience.  Is that audience typical of all internet sites, or are those predisposed to experiencing certain psychological "issues" drawn to such material as aired by these programs?  Inquiring (and troubled) minds want to know!

I got nothing but opinion here. I can tell you sleep disturbance can be devastating to mental health.

You're using a self-acknowledged fake to argue that the other fake isn't fake?  Step out of the bubble, dude.

I guess I am going to have to start spelling out every little detail from now on... I am INTJ and we often make the mistake of presuming other people will get lots of otherwise mundane information that we think is obvious. I've been trying very hard to learn not to do this, but hey, I'm human.

Snopes says this is a fake, but says the Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth (which is NOT a Birth Certificate) is not a fake, even though Sheriff Joe Arpaio is willing to put his career on the line and says it IS a fake...

Here's the ultimate bottom line - Obama is hiding something or he would have provided indisputable proof a long time ago. Think of the field day all of obama's internet comrades would have had with something like that! It would have been priceless. The guy's own grandmother says he was born in Kenya!

I've always believed that whatever the case, whether he is or is not an actual American Citizen, US MIDDLE CLASS WORKING Taxper Funded GRANTS paid for his college tuition as a FOREIGN STUDENT and that is what he has always been petrified would come out... another welfare fraud.

Presuming you went to college, are your college records sealed? Mine aren't... But oh I forgot, all Democrat politicians are as pure an honest as the driven snow, and only Republicans are liars and cheats.

Oh ya, I have my real birth certificate right here in a file drawer, 24-inches away (I measured with a Stanley Tape Measure, just to be sure)!

If my college/university records are sealed, it would be because of the privacy rules of the institutions from which I obtained my A.A./B.A./M.A. degrees.  I'm done with you, QK.  You have become boring.  Enjoy your life.

And IF you were the President and there was even the slightest question about your birthplace, you would stubbornly refuse to show proof...

Don't cry you're going to make me feel bad.

Actually, the Cheech photo with the burrito-joint is what inspired me... Cheech and Obama are kinda the same in my eyes - no offense Cheech I'm talking about the character you were playin'!

I'm confused now. You like Obama, or Cheech is evil?

I ordered Tropic Thunder 2-days ago - now if only I had one of them burrito joints to watch it with (been about 20-years!).

Next time you hear Obama speak, think of Richard Pryor... No, really!

Fake. And btw, his real name is Franklin Delano Washington. Where did this crap about "Barack Hussein Obama" came from? Racists no doubt.

Or, in Quick Karl measurements, 24 penes away.
