I'll spare the dozens of space documentaries to keep from boring anyone (unless you really want to know) and get to a generally well liked topic here:

The Billion Dollar Secret (Nick Cook) from 1999, but stands up amazingly well.

The Mirage Men - Mark Pilkington (2013) just a clip here - the full version isn't online as far as I know.

Season Four of Nazi Mega Weapons is now available on Netflix.  If you have never seen any of the Nazi Mega Weapons episodes and you are a history buff with the heart of an engineer, then I envy your viewing experience. Here is what you will see...

Extremely well done computer graphics that turn worn away ruins back into pristine buildings.

Top of the line historians and battlefield archaeologists are utilized to visit actual buildings and battlefield sites.  Their enthusiasm is infectious.  (I was very glad to see that archaeologist Tony Pollard was back for season 4.)

Interesting scenes of actual battle footage and back in the day living quarters that are projected on walls of the actual decaying buildings and weapons from that time.

Re-created scenes utilizing actors who portray people who actually took part in the battles. (Usually a young soldier or sailor who had written a diary back in the day, and who didn't always survive.)

A re-created Adolf.  It's always fun to watch Herr Hitler have the occasional melt down.

I mentioned Netflix, but YouTube has a number of episodes from earlier seasons.  This documentary series wasn't produced by some white power, Nazi loving group.  It was all put together by PBS.  Here is a sample commercial for an episode from season four:

Well, now...I guess I get the stupid award for today. Too funny.

I thought FightTheFuture's post of Forks Over Knives was....wait for it...not actually a documentary but some sort of coded phrase. Oh it was sooooo obvious....the capital F and then the capital O just had to be hiding some sort of cuss words. The K? Well...a clever diversion of some sort or a private insult. Had to be. So, of course, I responded with a similar cleverly encoded retort.

Then, intrepid and smug web surfer that I am, I googled it.

Oh god. It's an actual documentary...and you know what? A damn good one!

My profoundest apologies, FightTheFuture, and thank you for the great doc suggestion.

Just found this on youtube. I don't think the date of the show is correct.  In 1979, Serling had been dead for about 4 years.

Rod died in 1975. That documentary was put out in late '74, IIRC.
I just came across info on that a few weeks ago when I was doing some unrelated research.  ;)

wow, i clicked on this topic not expecting it to actually be about Chris-Chan. I figured it'd be about some paranormal dude. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Just watched the official documentary on Operation Highjump. It was on TCM last night. "Starring" Admiral Byrd. Narrated by Robert Taylor, Robert Montgomery and Van Heflin. All active servicemen at the time. No UFO's or swastika but still, I thought, really fascinating. The TCM showing was really high quality. This one not so much. But good enough for government work

This documentary, filmed entirely by military photographers, recounts the U.S. Navy's 1946-47 expedition to Antarctica, known as Operation High Jump. The expedition was under the overall command of Admiral Richard E. Byrd, no stranger to the Antarctic. This was a large undertaking involving 13 ships and over 4000 thousand men. The fleet departed from Norfolk, Virginia traveling through the Panama Canal and then southward to their final destination. The trip through the ice pack was fraught with danger and forced the submarine that was part of the fleet to withdraw. The trip was a success meeting all of its scientific goals. The film is narrated by three Hollywood stars, all of whom served in the US Navy: Robert Taylor, Robert Montgomery and Van Heflin. This film documents the largest expedition ever undertaken to explore Antarctica. The expedition, code named "Operation High Jump," was made by the U.S. Navy and involved 13 ships (including one submarine), 23 aircraft, and about 4700 men. The film was shot by photographers from all branches of the U.S. military. One purpose of the expedition was to explore and photograph several thousand square miles of inland and coastal areas that had not been previously mapped. Additionally, military planners wanted to evaluate whether military troops could successfully perform against an adversary in such an environment.

The comments on this video are interesting. I remember Art discussing this with people back in the 90s. Never believed the NTSB explanation.

I had a neighbor who was a retired NYC cop on harbor duty. He unabashedly said that it was a SAM and that everyone of the first responders either knew it or saw it happen.  And these guys typically do not talk. That was in '00. :-X

So far the documentary is good! Thanks But...

"The Warriors" was based on Anabasis you can know this because Cyrus is killed and the warriors need to find their way home in enemy territory. Sol Yurick and then Walter Hill took the famous Greek story and applied it to the crazy gangs at the time.  A great movie. And a movie where, depending on where you see, as different editing.  There also was concern at the time that the movie release would cause more gang violence.  I didn't know there was a game.

MV/Liberace!

I watched this last night.  I recommend you do the same.  The restorative work done on 100+ year old film just shocked me.

Thanks. If there isn't a documentary thread there ought to be. So many good ones out there that it's hard to keep track of them all. I've heard positive things about 'Behind the Curve', all about the flat earth people. I found a torrent of this one so I'll give it a go. Every town here has its own war memorial with the names listed of all the people killed in the Great War, as it was called then.

I generally have mixed feelings about colorization, but what i saw in this preview moved me.  Thanks for recommending it.
