Things That Annoy You

Permanently miserable fucks who are called "moody".

Talk about a misnomer. Isn't "moody" indicative that these people on occasion aren't miserable?

If one partakes of the beauty queen competition, then there is little excuse for being upset with the superficiality. If you hug a snake you will get bitten (use Ross Perot's voice).

That's a completely valid point, and maybe the woman "spoke up" in sour grapes over losing... nonetheless, I think that Trump is extraordinarily divisive, crude, and dishonest.  It annoys me that he wins yet again.  I love watching him lose.

Mosquitoes, mosquitoes, mosquitoes. Worst ever this year.

It's not just 1984 - it's 19842: German trains will install technology that permits them to play ads directly in the heads of passengers, without headphones or other hardware...and without the consent of the passengers, of course. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/media/10158311/Sky-Deutschland-to-broadcast-adverts-directly-into-train-passengers-heads.html

"Brave, new world", my ass.
I'm hoping people revolt over this. Stuff like this is what frightens me about tech. Any number of sci fi movie scenarios are right around the corner. For instance meat grown in a petri dish

Building inspectors.  On July 4th about 15-people packed themselves and their keg onto the balcony of a small apartment building - I think 4-units. The balcony collapsed and 4-people were mildly injured.  On Friday afternoon, July 5, the building inspector came out to take a look, condemned the entire building because the other balconies needed bracing, and gave all the tenants 48-hours to move out.  That means he gave them Saturday and Sunday of the 4th of July weekend to find another apartment, find a rental truck or movers, pack up all their stuff and move.  The tenants are collage students and folks in their early twenties.  I would suspect the expense of moving, paying rent on another place, and paying a new deposit would be prohibitive. And, of course, the property owner of the condemned building has lawyered up.

What a bastard.

I had no idea such technology was available.  I read the link and noted how the company is mentioning the so-called positive applications:  entertainment, news, important weather info.  And, of course, we have no reason whatsoever to doubt a company when it says its intentions are strictly for our benefit and that no harm or misuse could possibly result.

Yeah, this is scary.  I mean, there's no way, is there, that a government might use such technology to send little messages into people's heads, right?

Can you imagine if this technology was used to beam Noory broadcasts directly into our head?  Wouldn't this fall under "cruel and unusual punishment?"

Yes, it would be terrible... and nowadays... you just never know!

God, if I'm actually quoting Noory, it's time for a frontal lobotomy (or a bottle in front of me).

ItsOver

I just did something Noory would never do.  I actually read the article.  As I understand it, you actually have to have your head resting against a window in the train and the ad/message is transmitted through your skull by vibrations in the window.

So, lesson learned here is don't lean against any windows.  You never know when Noory might jar you awake with a Carnivora commercial.

"You can trust us. We would never record metadata of every single phone call American citizens made; or turn the IRS into an arm of partisan punishment; or prevent the rescue or relief of 4 Americans, including the Ambassador, and so allow them to die in an al-Qaeda attack we knew was coming for 24 hours; or permit more than 200 firearms to be illegally shipped to Mexico knowing they would be diverted to narcotrafficantes, hoping they would be used to kill American law enforcement so that we could then embarrass into permanent silence those most opposed to stringent gun control. See? You you can trust us."

What do you suggest the building inspector should have done? Not condemn it, and let everyone enjoy the 4th July (Cos that's more important than possibly falling to be injured or dead)..The property owner on the other hand should be prosecuted and given every opportunity to rehouse the recently vacated at his expense in properties fit for purpose.

Juan

I'd expect him to give them more than a holiday weekend to move.  The tenants did nothing wrong.

It hasn't gone down well at all..Not because of subliminal messaging, but passengers wanting to sleep as they lean on the window!

No-one is suggesting the tenants did anything wrong; but what if he had given them 7 days and the rest of the building collapsed in the meantime? He'd be attacked then for not getting them out sooner.

We had some terrible floods in parts of the Uk last autumn and one brand new block of flats that had been built alongside a river cracked; The place had been built on piles that had been exposed by the torrent of the flooded river washing away the ground..The occupiers in that instance were evacuated in what they wore, no-one was allowed back in, Not for anything. I think they were demolished shortly afterwards, contents included. Needless to say, a bit of a stink kicked off about that little faux pas.

I'd expect him or her to rope off the balconies and take care of the condemnation after the holiday weekend. Nothing  in UFO Fill's account suggests that the rest of the building was dangerous.

I'm no building inspector; but perhaps said inspector wasn't going to take the risk until he'd the opportunity to look later when it was empty. I agree it's pretty drastic to condemn an entire block like that, but if there are any civil engineers or architects around, I'm sure they'll chip in the possible reasons. It could be he's covering his arse too..In this litigious world where companies get sued because they don't write in big letters the fucking obvious "Don't eat this rat poison because it will probably kill you as you bleed to death", to cater for the terminally stupid; I can't blame him..We reap what we sow I'm afraid.

The basic technology has been around for a very long time... sound transmission. In the early 60's there was research being done to transmit sound via the bone structure. Advancing that to window glass doesn't seem to be a stretch.

Supposedly broadcasting into a person's brain is a big stretch.

If the technology is used it is simple to disrupt it, simply put a pillow, or some clothing to use as a pillow and voila... no ad to the head.

I'd be annoyed too. but I doubt it is that simple. I mean a building inspector isn't what one would call a great job. More than likely, the guy was following policy. And as we all know policies are often a pain in the ass. could the guy bend the rules? no idea.

If it were me, and I suspected someone else would or could get hurt, I would have them hand carried out of the building right then. What should have happened was support programs should have been contacted. The Red Cross and The Salvation Army are specifically set up to handle that kind of emergency. Me thinks this story was more to elicit anger than actually inform.

Works in reverse too of course...aim a microwave at a pane of glass, hook it up to a box of tricks and speaker and you can spy on the enemy..  ;)

SR-71

I am annoyed when non-pilots(foxnews talking heads) talk about a runway called it 28. Its not called twenty-eight its called two eight. A runway has two numbers. For example, the runway in San Francisco that had the crash, has two numbers. Two-eight and  one-zero are the numbers. It base on degress on the compass. For example two-eight is really 280 degrees on the compass and one-zero is 100 degress.

Yep..it is an irritant. But the reporter doesn't know why they're numbered that way, because no-one told them, and they're too lazy to find out..At least they're not being really confused with things like ILS, FL35, FMC, and APU's.

I'm not a soccer fan and have not looked past the headlines about the soccer referee who was killed.  I just read more.  According to what I read, the ref penalized a player.  Fans stormed the field and stoned the ref to death and then quartered him.

I sometimes feel like an alien on this planet.  It is astonishing to me that people can take a stupid sport so seriously.  Obviously enough, 95% of the world's population is not so insane and barbaric, but such stories are pretty difficult to fathom.

Yorkshire pud

Hmmm, terrible..It seems the referee (This happened in Brazil) was 20, and a player disagreed with a decision he'd made.. The argument escalated and the referee pulled out a pocket knife (No idea why he would be carrying that to a football match but hey)..and stabbed the player several times..and he died on the way to hospital.. It's alleged that the players friends and family in the crowd came on the pitch and made for the referee..and that's when the second murder took place..they rounded it off with sticking his head on a stake..Police have arrested one but are looking for two more. Terrible thing to happen.

Thanks for the further info, Yorkie... I hadn't heard that the ref had pulled a knife.  This is starting to sound a bit like that not-very-good Bruce Willis movie from years ago (The Last Boyscout) where a football player pulls a handgun while he's running down field and shoots an opposing player attempting to tackle him.

I think that in darn near every photo I've seen of Miley Cyrus in the last six months she is sticking her tongue way out.  She has some new big video out too that I clicked on -- again, her tongue is hanging out of her mouth repeatedly.  Is that the hot new look?

The tongue is admittedly better than "duckface."

What annoys me are hilariously overwritten articles on the horrors of pop music that do nothing other than advertise said pop music.  Case in point:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2013/07/02/198097817/the-record-when-pop-stars-flirt-with-danger?utm_source=music&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=20130704

I probably never would have heard "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk and wouldn't have it in my head at this very instant if it weren't for just such an article brought to me by the New York Times or NPR or a similar outfit.

I'm old.

I barely know who miley cyrus is. I have no idea what a daft punk is... somehow I think I am better off.

Hahaha... I was at work one day, back when her craze took off, walking past a co-worker who was gushing all over the place about Hannah Montana.  I was completely clueless, fortunately, and looked at the co-worker, asking "what is a Hannah Montana???"  Ignorance can indeed be bliss.

As a woman what annoys me is over sensitive people being offended by something someone posts in a forum. It is a jungle out here, and people take this stuff way too seriously. Unless someone personally attacks you I don't get getting pissed off.
