"And granted, the tapes themselves are a uh um oh, you own them, all right, but the magic that is on those tapes. That fucking heart and soul that we put onto those tapes, that is ours and you don't own that. Now I need to take that magic and get it over the record company. And they're waiting for us, we were supposed to be there a half hour ago. We look like assholes, man."

I couldn't have found a more beautiful song to drink a cup of coffee by.  Thanks, K.

I heard the following one go by while I was shaving.  (Bird voices by Charles Kellogg.)

Oh that is fun, Rix!  I sure hope I get to hear a nightingale one day.

In retrospect I should have put it in your thread, it's about that time hahaha.  Sibelius is my favorite, ridiculous though it is to have one.  Some people say the bard is dying and manages to strike one last mighty chord as he succumbs, perhaps to a stroke -- you can hear his harping go awry before it happens.  I think the old guy's just strumming away in a desultory fashion when inspiration strikes from above with the force of a sudden storm -- you can hear the moment the the wind changes -- as it has not since his youth.  Kind of sounds like he rolls over and gives up.  Either way, pretty tragic picture, and some musicians have used it as an epitaph.

Opinions, please... Which artist does it better? If I would have asked my Grandparents, they would choose Billy Holiday, and I would nod my head in respectful agreement... But the BS&T version was one of my favorite songs growing up, so my final nod goes to them....

Kind of like both of them. BS&T is more familiar for sure.

I bought the BS&T album when it first came out, without hearing any of it beforehand.  (I gave in to all the pre-release hype, glowing music magazine reviews, etc.)  I was strangely dissatisfied with it.  It just didn't have a certain oomph to it.  Yeah, blaring horns, okay and there was one bass guitar, but not enough to give it real, I don't know...fidelity?  Also the guys were so damn young.  lol  Like sure fellows, you have all lived the hard, gritty, back street performance life to become real masters of the blues.  Don't get me wrong though, they were a good band.  I also probably had a lousy phonograph player back then. haha

I vote for Billy.

Orly?

As she was ending a segment last night on C2C I posted Stray Cat Strut.

When she came back from the commercial break, that was the bumper.

Woke up to this on the radio this morning and had to buy the cd.  Different tune than I'm used to, but I like it, especially the third verse with its almost shapenote-style harmony.

But they leave out my favorite verse:

When through fiery trials thy pathway doth lie,
My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply.
The flames shall not harm thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.

It was a pleasure to see Fleetwood Mac twice in the 70's.... We may be old, but we saw the greatest bands....
