Atwood's tale of totalitarian theocracy needs to be revised and updated.

The religious right has declined over the years- the old guard is dying out and there are few young ones waiting in the wings to take over. These are not the days of Ralph Reed.

Not a closed conversation, but it would be nice if Pud did answer.

Does it? Does it really?

One with Forrest Gump as POTUS? Just consider it. Thats all.

Still not an answer with any substance. Always a pointless reply that fails to further the conversation.

Are you doing this intentionally or do you truly not understand what I am asking you?

Hey tweetle dee, nothing abstract about it. I said millions had insurance that didn't have it before. I also said millions that had it before no longer have it. (I being one of the latter).

Or are you trying to tell me that 100% are now covered?  All except for me?

The intentional vagueness of your millions do, millions don't statement attempts to obscure the causal impact that the ACA had on providing healthcare insurance for people who were previously uninsured. I provided a simple graph so those with limited critical thinking skills could follow along.  ;)

And how is the free for all with access to firearms keeping crime down? Roughly?

I don't mean to butt in here- but here's a little scenario that will roughly explain it.

A drug addict needs a fix and has a choice of two houses to break into and rob. House one- older, single woman with no gun; house two- older, single woman who you know has a gun.
Choose the you think you'd walk away from in a fight.

That's how it works.

Most people that didn't have insurance before, didn't have it because they choose not to.

There were some with prior conditions that weren't covered, but even these had chose not to be covered at one time or they would not have been uncovered when the prior condition surfaced.

Personal firearms aren't for keeping crime down, it's to protect oneself from crime.

How retarded are you actually?

You have literally zero skills at reading comprehension, or you refuse to acknowledge that firearms have actually prevented women, the elderly and others from being killed, raped, or assaulted.

Would you be willing to go to each of those women, or elderly who used firearms to protect themselves from being raped or murdered and tell them you wish you could go back in time and remove the firearms from them, so they would have been raped or murdered?

Really?

Are you that anti-women, and anti-elderly?

You are correct about people who choose, for a variety of reasons, not to have insurance. But when I had to pay out of pocket for my son's surgery during a brief period of being uninsured (before the ACA), the total costs for the surgery exceeded the amount I would have paid for one year of premiums and a high deductible. I considered it a hard-learned lesson.

In addition, through my work in the ER, I've encountered dozens of patients who faced even more devastating results of being uninsured. Being young and healthy is no substitute for health insurance. Even the cocky folks here who look down their nose at the poor, "non-contributing" Americans undeserving of healthcare are one unexpected illness or traumatic injury away from the same predicament.

Affordable healthcare for all!

Seriously, Pud- most of us get that you do not approve of Trump to the point of appearing to be obsessed. You criticize, ridicule, and argue relentlessly. Don't get me wrong, it is your right to post your views as we all do, but I would sincerely like to ask you which system of governance would best serve our country?

Your reply was:

You made noise, Mr. Pud-you did not answer. Don't confuse effort with accomplishment.

If you need help- RoseGirl isn't the best spokesperson for your side. See if you can catch SV before he puts his thesaurus away and slips into his jammies for the night.

The question still stands in its original form.

We know what you don't like- why don't you tell us what you do like?

Didn't they also tell us that the SETI signal would lead a hostile alien race to conquer the Earth?

If you haven't heard about this, make sure to stock up on rations, batteries, tin foil, and birth control while you can still get it! Those aliens can be frisky.

Just another absurdity in the news biz. The Daily Beast- really? Not surprised.

What I find hilarious, we rejected the English form of governance then kicked there asses out. Yet Here we are roughly 241 years later pud is bitching we did not listen then, not going to now.

NHS is a worse than the VA yet you are going to lecture people on healthcare, fix your system first buddy.

Immediate 20% reduction in pay for all healthcare workers!!! Let's get these costs under control!!!

Or we could just get the federal government out of it. 90% were better off before it.

(I was kidding about the pay reduction - good health care workers do not get paid enough)

Ahhh, so firearms bought for defence are and have never been used to commit crime? Ever? Add in that you're more than four times more likely to be killed by a firearm if you possess one.

How retarded are you actually?

Eh?

You have literally zero skills at reading comprehension, or you refuse to acknowledge that firearms have actually prevented women, the elderly and others from being killed, raped, or assaulted.

And many many more firearms have been used to assist rape, murder, and assault. Or does a gun know how it is being used? Show your workings..

Really?

And would you go to the families of kids murdered by those who have been watching too much hollywood and conspiracy websites, took their parents firearms and gone out to shoot the teachers and students they didn't like at the school they were expelled from because the staff aren't qualified to teach mentally ill? Or the family of the toddler who picked up a loaded handgun and shot their sibling or parent?

Good point, smc.

I am absolutely amazed that those who never have to tolerate the 'flaws' of our current system are the most vocal about it.

You're asking which system of governance? Hypothosis I suppose? One that treats everyone with equal respect, and doesn't elevate politicians (especially the incumbant leader) on the level of gods. They should all be answerable and not use position to either tread on the people or to escape answering their own failures and misdomeanors. Neither should said leaders hide, obfuscate or use nepotism. And for every pledge they make on a campaign they should forfeit 10% of their total wealth if they backtrack or fail to deliver, per pledge, per each member of that party's governance. E.G. 100 members plus leader. Each pledge lie in office is 10% each of their total wealth. Going into the coffers to provide for all except those 110.

Is it? Think you'll find you're very wrong. The NHS is far from perfect, and gets abused and used as a political football. But the US (In the last twenty years) hasn't got close to the NHS in providing health care for all at a cost per patient that remotely compares. Out of eleven. The USA is eleven. The UK is about four.

If we didn't have to deal with an illegal population that is equal to 40% of the total population of the UK, I dare say our health care costs would be decreased. Virtually every outbreak of TB, measles, mumps, etc are in enclaves with a high % of illegal immigrants. We quarantine animals at the border for a reason.
