Illegal immigration is one of those dog whistle topics. Trump is giving a simple answer to a complicated  problem. Walls are usually signs of weakness rather than strength, like the French Maginot line, and are never as effective as you think they will be. Your biggest problem is your relative prosperity as a nation compared  to Mexico. People want to come there because they think they will have a better life. If they are sufficiently determined they will find a way. The wall is too long for practical use, and it's bound to be porous. It might reduce the rate of immigration, but does that justify the expense in an era of fiscal conservatism? The only long-term solution is to make Mexico more  prosperous, so that people don't want to leave in such numbers. People will find a way to get there, so you need to reduce the incentive. The trouble is, a solution like that won't be heard in this world of day-glo TV sets and news bimbos. It's a bit like the 'war on drugs', which doesn't work either, because it's a problem that can only be managed, not eliminated.

Mexicans have an incentive to get into the US because our political system has long barred any effective penalties for the employers of illegal workers.  The solution is to end the stranglehold of corporate money on the legislators.

The problem for Mexico is much deeper than the attraction of US jobs.  Mexico (and most of  S. and Central America) exist in strongly held 19th Century attitudes of class and racial castes that block real economic growth.  Trade concessions like NAFTA have barely moved the economic needle for most Mexican workers and have devastated American manufacturing while grandly enriching the already wealthy on both sides of the border.

Bottom line is that corruption is rampant on both sides of the border.  They call it mordida, we call it the Congress.

In regards to Mexico, Mexico has very powerful, independent private sector unions. It's up to the Mexican workers to use those unions to get higher wages.  Chinese workers got large wage growth (which resulted in lower skilled mainly assembly jobs going to even cheaper places like Vietnam and, for a time, even North Korea) and they don't even have independent private sector unions.

If the leaders of the Mexican unions are corrupt, then it's up to the Mexican workers to vote out their union leaders. Maybe the remaining American unions can provide some assistance.

In regards to the United States, judging by their media mouthpieces many Fortune 500 CEOs are scared witless of a Donald Trump Presidency.  This should give Hillary Clinton enormous leverage to demand concessions from them.  Even if not, it must be apparent to many CEOs that the American people will no longer accept, as Bernie Sanders correctly says " almost all the the gains from GDP growth going to the 1%" (actually more like the 1% of the 1%.)

I really like this campaign cycle because it has made me so much more aware of conservative media types.  My favorite so far has to be Steve Deace.  If you thought Ted Cruz had no competition in the creepy factor, well Steve Deace is almost like Superman compared to Ted Cruz.  I have enjoyed watching him have his melt down and flail about and cry over Trump winning and Ted Cruz losing.

Just listened to him on the radio.

His opening bumper music is from Rage Against the Machine, and he overlays the music with movie lines from the movie "V for Vendetta".

It's mind boggling he would use that music and quotes from that movie.

The country's reaction to some guy eating a taco bowl is one of the funniest things I've witnessed in awhile.  ;D

Trump must have an insane metabolism to eat that many calories and still maintain that alpha figure.

Well raping Ted Cruz takes a lot of calories, holding him down and thrusting into Ted Cruz 24/7.

Was Ted Cruz really competition for the God Emperor though? A creepy ugly bible beater who talks about God while fucking trannies? Aside from keks, I doubt Trump wasted much energy.

Just like Hillary is a pro-Rape, pro-Victim status, literally the worst politician the Democrats could trot out who everyone hates and who's only qualification is the best Prez of the 20th century cheated on her really going to be competition?

I hope Trump is already making plans to put the bowling alley back in the White House.

The U.S is keeping Germany secure?

This is one of a handful of things that I agree with Donald Trump on.  South Korea should pay the full cost of the U.S troops.

It's even a little hard to imagine China invading Japan, so, it's debatable that the U.S troops are needed there.

It's possible that U.S troops are stationed in Japan as a means to defending Taiwan from Chinese invasion.  Even if that is the case though, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, South Korea and the Philippines all have reasons to put their historical differences aside and ally together to stop China.  So, again, Chinese aggression should not necessitate the United States being the defenders of its allies.

Listening to the Steve Deace show.

And I quote:  night's I woke up in the middle of the night sobbing, literally.  Sobbing into my wife's shoulder.  I couldn't process it........there is literally a war going on in this country for the heart and soul of this country.

I feel for Steve Deace's wife.  I mean, sure you drew the short stick married to Steve Deace, but damn, now you are up in the middle of the night with this guy bawling his eyes out, cause his political candidate isn't winning.  How can a woman have any respect for a man so prone to crying in fits of emotional outbursts?

I really think Steve Deace pretty much sums up the average Ted Cruz supporter.

Bernie supporters letting their tolerance and hunger for equality rain down.

Watching progressives come apart at the seams revealing themselves to be the hypocritical closeted racists we knew they were all along.

I saw some of the Donald Trump interview with Wolf Blitzer.  I really don't get his appeal at all.  He either makes fact free claims about things like "we're going to become the dominant manufacturing nation in the world again" or generally fact free claims against his opponents or he's all mindless boasts "Putin is going to love me."

I realize that some of Trump's supporters just want to poke a finger at 'the system' but, honestly, beyond his base who exactly is going to fall for this nonsense?  Of course, Trump will get the votes of those who vote for the Republican ticket and not any specific candidate, but calling Donald Trump a clown is unfair to clowns.

I can't see anybody who respects their intelligence voting for Trump.

Could you explain which candidates are worthy enough to vote for so the voter can respect their intelligence?

Please give a complete breakdown, I am honestly curious.

It already has fallen in.  A financial "wall" would work even better, such as levying a 75% federal tax on every Western Union transaction destined to go to high illegal emigre nations such as Mexico.  This would reduce some of the economic motivation to move here.

Transferring money via Western Union is so last century.  Slipping money in and out of the country undetected has never been easier.  Would your "financial wall" be directed at everyone, or just the working class?

There are two major candidates. Neither is perfect, but to say they are as bad as each other is simple minded false equivalency bull-shit.

Hillary Clinton had detailed well thought out policy on many issues and panders to the voters far less than Donald Trump panders to his base.  Of course, Clinton does make a few specific silly promises like offering to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour while Trump seems to have made virtually no specific commitments to his base.  So, not only are Trump's supporters stupid, they're bought off with vague promises that are  mostly ridiculous and often contradictory.  Proving even more how stupid they are.

On balance, I think Hillary Clinton is the vastly superior choice.

Nice. I didn't say that.  I saw about half an hour of his interview and Trump repeated the same points I quoted over and over again, especially about how 'great' he is and 'what a brilliant negotiator' he is.

As all Trump supporters are self selecting, and therefore, not a random sample, that so many of them don't seem to recognize the guy is a carnival huckster phony, of course, they can all be stupid.  I left out the ones who were supporting Trump realizing that he's a phony but believing that a vote for Trump would 'shake up the system.'

Of course, it's one think to vote a phony, and one who either pretends to be or genuinely is an erratic phony to the U.S House or the U.S Senate, it's quite another to vote for one to be President of the United States.  That's a level of stupid that probably goes beyond even those who genuinely believe Trump's nonsense.

Geezer, I'm not picking on you, just using your post. I noticed that virtually every post today concentrates on Mexico and Mexicans as being the problem and/or solution. That shows a lack of understanding of the issues at hand.

Yes, Mexicans comprise a portion of the illegal immigrants, but since they do nothing to control their southern border, they are just a thoroughfare for illegals from virtually any central and South American country, and allows anyone from anywhere in the world to reach the US once they reach the Americas.

This is not just a problem with Mexican illegal immigrants.

I see posters from Britain (an island nation) and Canada (a country the hopes we help them enforce their southern border) telling us how we should or shouldn't protect our border.

It boils down to whether we are a sovereign nation with borders and laws or we are not. I believe we are, and I believe we should be protecting and policing our borders and enforcing ALL of of our current immigration laws.

I don't care if it is a wall, a virtual fence, or Albrecht's land mine solution, but we need to stem the tide. Will it be 100% effective?  No. Could it be 90-95% effective?  Probably.

I believe all federal aid should be cut off to any city or state that allows itself to become a sanctuary. I believe that any company that willingly employs an illegal immigrant should face civil and criminal penalties. I believe we should be immediately deporting everyone here illegally. Logistical problems? Sure. We could get UPS to help us. They are great with logistics.

I don't think we should take a single refugee in from the Middle East until prosperous countries in the Middle East start becoming part of the solution. How many refugees are Iran and Saudi Arabia welcoming into their countries?  Zero.

We are either a country with a border and laws or we are not. Our Constitution says that we are. Canada's well-being relies on us being one.

This issue has been an issue for quite some time. It is being discussed and debated today as loudly and with as much emotion today because one person decided to make it a central issue in his campaign. Donald Trump. You know, the clown that would be out of the race before the first primary. That Donald Trump.

Personally, I look forward to the groundbreaking ceremony for the wall. The strip of land has already been surveyed and procured for the half-assed attempt at building the border fence that Congress decided must be built, but then refused to fully fund.

2.China is part of the WTO and has MFN trade status with the U.S. The U.S has no free trade agreement with China.

Bernie Sanders is like a lot on the further left.  I'm not sure if there is a political term for Bernie Sanders and his supporters, he's not a socialist, I know some liberals call him a progressive, but like a lot of them, he points out a lot of genuine economic problems, but he has few if any practical solutions.

I'm actually not a big Hillary Clinton supporter due to her penchant for secrecy and her willingness to engage in deals that though none have ever be found to be illegal (and that seems likely what will happen with the latest FBI investigations as well) that clearly go stretch the legal point as far as it will go.  Some of her behavior has clearly been of dubious ethics.

The old line in politics is that you can succeed as a 3/10 if your opponent is a 2/10.  There are probably a half dozen Democrats I would have preferred to Hillary Clinton, including Elizabeth Warren.  Amy Klobuchar or Tim Kaine/Mark Warner probably would have been better choices as well.
