Yeah, charisma and likeability. It seems like this election is not one for candidates you'd want to hang out and have a beer with. Whatever they're like in private, they all come off as either unapproachable of just plain difficult to be around (Kasich maybe less so). Whether it's political consultants or marketers, a lot of this "tokenism" is driven by statistics and demographics. Women and other groups get reduced to numbers instead of groups of individuals. The powers that be have bought into this approach because they believe it works and, more importantly, they don't know how else to operate.

But, at its heart, it relies on stereotyping individuals based on their race, ethnicity or other socio-economic factors. Ironically, it goes against every bit of rhetoric that politicians spout about treating people as individuals, but they rationalize it as being somehow objective and scientific. Your disgust is well-deserved, TigerLily.

It's not a question right now if she can beat a democrat. Cruz knows that republicans in California have already voted her in as a candidate once. He is hoping those same voters will now vote for him instead of voting for Trump. If Trump gets 110-120 of the 172 delegates from California, it will put him over the top and Cruz knows it.
