I think the land mines are a pretty silly notion.  I don't fault the man who's working his ass off to send his pay money to his impoverished family back in Oaxaca.  I've seen too many.  Its good ol' American greed.  The best control is heavily penalizing the employers of illegals.  The Republican Congress has had 20 years to do it.  Guess why they won't.
Unfortunately it is not just honest, hardworking Jose coming over to be exploited by companies, families, farmers, and ranchers, but potential terrorists, ultra-violent cartel members, sadistic sex-traffickers, and criminals. And even honest Jose is now coming with his wife Maria and 7 children. And we tax-payers are expected to educate, feed (my schools now even serve dinner,) provide healthcare, provide legal aide, etc etc them. Even granting them cheaper tuition than US citizens to high education in some cases.

Landmines are very cheap (compared to a wall or actually manning positions all along the border.) And could be made 'smart' (we could turn off lest any endangered animals get killed or during times of border interdiction operations, etc.) And we would have signage and an advertising campaign (not just in languages- since so many illegals are illiterate even in their own languages, but with symbols and video clearly saying: "walk here and go boom." Along with penalizing people (not just employers, but also school, churches, charities, etc) who harbor, hire, or transport illegals. And a foreign guest worker VISA system, that was tracked, to allow foreign workers in case of real need (but they can't bring their family or drop anchor babies.)

I think these hopes and dreams of border solutions will not happen so long as big money controls our political system.  Pity that the guy who is against big money and politics is the guy who has such sympathy for the huddled masses.

I agree, but Sanders (and Trump to an extent) emphasizes restoration of the middle class more than pandering to every low income minority group with an acronym like HMH.  Clinton is the greater socialist danger; ready to redistribute the middle class's resources to the elective non-skilled and unmotivated in return for political chits. Like most of her ilk, she's totally insulated from the economic and social consequences of her SJW zeal.  Her only restraint on immigration views is that Hispanic immigrants will take low income jobs from her black political base.

I think Clinton Inc. will abandon Chappaqua as soon as the election's finished; win or not.  That was all to get a sure-thing senate nomination and access to easy cash.  They're a better fit with the crasser nouveaux riche of of the West Coast.

In the predawn hours, a contestant named Lauren Petrella â€" who, at age 22, was 24 years younger than the 46-year-old Trump â€" allegedly found Trump, unannounced and uninvited, in her bed.

“You said you don’t sleep with men on the first date,” he told her, according to the lawsuit filed by Harth. “Now it’s the second date, and here I am.”

Petrella did not respond to numerous requests for comment.

Houraney, in interviews with the Globe, said that Petrella came to him that morning and described the encounter.

“I went up to him and said, ‘Donald, what the hell are you doing?’ ” Houraney said. “He says, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘She told me she never sleeps with a guy the first night. She’s been here two days.’ I just didn’t know what to say to that. It’s such a stupid comment.

“When he started hitting on them I said, ‘Donald, not at my event. Or I won’t bring any more parties to your house,’ ” he added.

Trump kept calling Harth after that weekend, she alleged, and told her that he “was the best lover you’ll ever have,” and that if she slept with him, she “would be an awakened woman.”

I posted a week or so ago that Trump's campaign, and maybe his marriage, will be lucky to survive the unprecedented media onslaught he's going to experience until July.

Ha, was this the same Boston paper who did the fake Trump articles a week or so ago? Certainly a trust-worthy media outlet. But I do find one social phenomena interesting, if you put a "D" by his name, or insert name like Clinton or Kennedy or the name of Hollywood person, into the story he would be lauded and praised over his actions, or at least excused in a 'boys will be boys' way- even if the nanny or potential actress was underage or drugged. And if he was Muslim it would simply be explained as a "sexual emergency" and a cultural misunderstanding and, really, Western women should act and dress more appropriately- essentially they are "asking for it" by the media and politicians.

It is.  They did a fake front page reporting the world coming apart under Pres. Trump and labeled it op-ed.
Semantics is everything.  I read the article.  It doesn't mention that he was divorced and still unmarried at the time.  It called his relationship with Marla Maples an "affair" though they married a few months later, and referred her only as a "Hawaiian Tropic model" though she had several movie and Broadway roles before meeting Trump.  Hit piece, and it will be seen as such.

Well, he thinks very highly of himself. I find it bizarre that he used to send magazine and newspaper articles about Megyn Kelly, to her with his signature on them -- "Donald J. Trump." He would also call her just to say what a "great job" she was doing and how "fantastic" she was. And then......the first debate took place. And little Donald has been pouting ever since  ;D

Why not, they have proven very effective in securing perimeters and borders in the past and are very cheap? And, I imagine with modern technology they could be "smart" so that the criminals and terrorists couldn't find a path between them and could be identify, or be turned off, "friendlies," livestock, and animals. For humanitarian reasons there would be an advertising campaign in other countries and signage (in universally understood symbols since many illegals are illiterate in their own language.) To deaths and injuries would be limited to the criminals who find the sex-trade or drug-running is worth the risky attempt. But the real solution (that will never happen) is to have real, serious civil, and criminal, penalties for any business, person, charity, school, hospital, or government agency who hires, harbors, or transports illegals (except for acute- not long-term- humanitarian reasons or as a part of the process of deportation.)

Right, because it is a kumbaya world in which borders shouldn't exist and people should be able to go and do whatever they wish. I assume you never lock your car door or house and certainly don't have any fences or hedges on your property! Please post your CC and bank account details and PIN#'s or passwords because we don't need any security, obviously.  :o
By the way, can a place even be considered a country without a border?
ps: I think Europe should do similar to prevent those "rape-u-gees" and terrorists from entering.

Sorry, Princess Di, but land-mines have proven very effective both against personnel and against tanks and used on successful borders (Korean DMZ, Cyprus, etc.) Furthermore a "smart" land-mine would not be subject to Ottawa Treaty (because, at least arguably and in theory, we could turn off to avoid killing/maiming so-called innocent "refugees" and illegals or turn it on explicitly on command- so not a "dumb mine" that would explode on contact regardless of who the person/vehicle is.)

In answer to my own question, that you ignore, using one common definition of the country in international law (Montevideo Convention 1932): "(b) a defined territory."

Your assumption that the flow of illegals across our southern border is what's killing our society is pretty short sighted imo.    Take a look in your wallet.  Your electronic credit issued by banks who control the world's economy have been fucking us with a splintery axe handle for about as long as the dudes picking apples have been hiking across the border.  The first teenager that loses a leg hunting in northern Idaho will just about cancel out any perceived value from creating a fucking DMZ around our clown car.

Oh sure, there needs to be banking reform (as well as other reforms.) As I mentioned, the mines would be "smart" and also focused on the more trouble areas (I'm not that worried about the folks creeping across the border near Metaline Falls or somewhere up in those areas. And those "kids" in the woods could likely take out the illegal while plinking or hunting but when confronted with heavily armed and military trained cartel members and sex traffickers as our other border? I just don't engage and report because you never know who you might come across. Some honest Jose looking to, as you say "pick apples," or some elite cartel unit who likes to make pozole and rape trees for fun. So far, at least , Canada is not a near-failed, corrupt narco-state and not, as much as a concern. (And, by the way, I mentioned a guest-worker program so your apples can still get picked.)

I agree. Drug, and alcohol, abuse should be treated in the healthcare system and not the criminal justice system (which just compounds the problem- even if the addict/drunk 'recovers' now he has a record- good luck getting a job!) And it would take much of the profit from the cartels (or at least they would have to go legit) and help cut-down corruption, at least in these areas, in those countries (and increasingly here.) This is a somewhat separate issue from having secure borders and a rational immigration policy, because not all illegals or "rape-u-gees" are drug dealers or mules.

Right.  I'd unscientifically wager that most of them are just desperate people with no future willing to risk their necks for the misguided prospect of earning some cash.  Now they'll be tapdancing around explosives too.  Lol the thought of it sounds nuts to me.

No, they would simply apply like anyone else legally and also might not need to risk themselves (or even more crazily their children) if they would reform their countries. Drug legalization and anti-corruption programs and some other reforms there might help that a lot. Don't worry your apples can still be picked. Just by the ones who are aren't connected to organized crime or have serious criminal convictions. Though capital flight and flight of honest or hardworking people (or educated ones) certainly doesn't help the situation in Mexico, and elsewhere, reform or improve their economy and conditions!

No white people (and Hispanics can claim to be, or are, white in some cases, it is not a 'race.' Go to Spain or even some Mexicans and they are "whiter" that some "whites" here) commit all kinds of crime. So do US citizens of any creed, race, or ethnicity. So clearly importing more criminals of any type will help our crime problem?  Makes sense. :o
