*generally speaking I'm usually not in favor of privatizing infrastructure that was already build by tax-payers or PPPs, toll ways that never end (unless the project was totally private and received no government funds or 'taking'), or "quasi-government" organizations. There are some rare cases but mostly I think if public, it should be public and maintained by state and local funds. If private than by maintained by whatever company. I admit in situation of disasters the Feds should step-in but not for mismanagement or not spending money due to other pet projects. I'm also against Federal funds to go to what should be State/local projects.

Not as much as this boondoggle. But I get your point. I think politicians should pay for some of their protection if they won't live at official facilities. But I would go further, all our politicians that vote for open borders, sanctuary cities, and crazy immigration schemes, and the judges who rule for that stuff, to have to hire their own protection and all their children must attend public school in the district in which they live. I think policy would change quite quickly.
