The dumbest thing Trump keeps saying about Mosul, in his rallies and elsewhere (he did it yesterday), is that we gave ISIS leaders ample time to leave before starting the attack. He thought we should have remained silent and led a sneak-attack like in war movies starring Chuck Norris and Sylvester Stallone, except in this reality-based movie it's Donald Trump as the hero and star. When he opens his mouth you hear simpleminded solutions to complex problems, that's all. ISIS's response to knowing unequivocally that a push for the city was coming was to plan and come up with the logistics of using human shields. In other words, their aim is to create the largest human toll as a result of the attack. This is specifically because they know that we try to minimize civilian casualties as a rule, therefore they exploit that by creating civilian casualties. While I fully understand that brutality on the level of ISIS is difficult for anyone to fathom, it's not such a bad idea to keep your mouth shut about your war plans as best you can when dealing with these people.
