MV/Liberace!

it's not popular to say, but i generally don't like police officers very much.  it takes a certain type of personality to WANT to be a cop, and that type of personality is not typically the kind of individual i choose to associate with in my personal life.  furthermore, i've had dealings in the past with our local police department... and i found them to be lazy, uninterested, unprofessional, ineffective meat-heads who probably have fat wives.

i know there are exceptions to everything, and not all police officers are as described above.  i get that.  it's just that i don't buy into this whole, "respect the police" mentality people seem to live their lives by, particularly in the USA.  the ironic thing is that, for the most part, the biggest cheerleaders police have are conservatives.  do they not get the fact that the police are simply an arm of the government?  so much for all of the "government is the problem" philosophy.   aww... shit... i guess the same could be said about liberals though... only it's the inverse.  they hate the cops but love every other festering brown log the government squeezes onto a paper plate.

and ENOUGH of this incessant tasering.  it's being abused by police officers routinely.  there are videos of it ALL OVER THE INTERNET.  go take a look if you don't believe it's being abused.  i guess the idea here is that tasers are intended to prevent police from having to get physically involved in a situation.  i understand that, but i think the evidence shows reality does not run parallel with intent in this instance.  police are tasing first, asking questions later.  and do you remember that kid who got tased for daring to pipe up during some sort of college campus town-hall meeting with john kerry?  here's some skinny college douche, doing what skinny college douches do (and have done for decades), and a dozen police officers can't handle him physically?  they have to tase him?  "DON'T TAZE ME, BRO!!"  you remember that, don't you?  everybody got a nice chuckle out of that phrase, even to the point of printing up t-shirts and bumper stickers donning the phrase, but personally, i found it to be one of the saddest milestones to date in the erosion of our civil liberties.

Michael,

You're so damn straightforward. RU Art Bell?  Really man, are you even wearing clothes, with no towel on your chair, when you post this stuff(?), because you are coming off as stark naked real buddy.  How do you get away with this stuff?

In another life, I had personally collected the most horrendously and insanely counter-productive "police work" stories and I eventually came to this conclusion:

Good, non-toxic folks WOULD want to be police officers, IF, the job description genuinely was about serving and protecting.  I've got some law enforcement in my extended family and friends you know, but they tend to prove the following point.  Because of the natural process of social and political sorting that goes on at any job site, a corrupt and void-of-ethics organization will weed out virtuous souls in a natural process of self-attrition. (The good ones quit)  Result, the guys and gals that you would love to see watching over the neighborhood are often the ones being full-nelsoned by the unchallengeable arm of the law.  This vicious cycle often stands out in high relief in a small community, like the one I grew up in, where if some local tweeker steals Mom's jewelry, nothing is done, but the bored youth and future citizens are harassed for still having a spirit, which will give a kid a bad attitude about cops.

Amen to that.  How is tasering different than clamping electrodes to your scrotum and throwing the switch?  It is torture, especially if used on a routine basis, as it has been.  How many times have you seen / heard, "Stop resisting or I will taser you again..."
