i think if we had ended the embargo against cuba early on, communism in cuba would have effectively dried up five years later.  it's been one of the biggest foreign policy blunders in our history, and unfortunately, any politician who proposes ending the embargo is accused of being un-american or some such nonsense.  bleh.  i guess we thought the embargo would encourage the people of cuba to rise up against their government, but after 50 years of failure, you'd think we'd see a pattern.

for an example of what happens to communist regimes when you engage them in commerce, take a look at china.  while their government remains oppressive and totalitarian in plenty of ways, they've made significant strides toward democracy in recent years.  these democratic advances were the result of our decision to trade with them.  why would cuba be different?  it seems the american continuation of the embargo simply comes down to an attempt at saving face.

if we'd ended the embargo against cuba decades ago, they'd probably be one of the USA's most reliable allies in the western hemisphere today.  the casto regime would probably have fallen long ago.  cuba would have become a paradise, and its people would have enjoyed a quality of life far beyond what they've been subjected to for fifty years.  it's just a shame that the policy never changed because of the fear politicians had of the electoral consequences.

end the cuban embargo.

when that happens, and when they succeed in GETTING it, our days of buying cheap shit at walmart will be over.  what will we do then?  we have completely surrendered our manufacturing base to overseas industrial entities.  we will be up a creek.

Just think, if we had never embargoed China, the Communist Party might still be in power today.

Cuban embargo: I forget what modern visionary said this, it's been years since I first heard this on C2C. But someone said that the Virgin Mary had told them in a vision that when the US lifted its Cuban embargo that it would be a sign that the end times were imminent.

The Virgin mentioned nothing of Lady Gaga.

The would be new supreme leader of everybody's favorite basket case of a country, North Korea.  His name is Kim Jong Um and he's got blood thirsty psycho written all over his face.  We can only hope that somewhere in that asylum, somebody's got to be sick and tired of not having electricity, and eating rats and cockroaches, and perhaps bold enough to engineer some sort of "accident" to cut this goon's rule real short.

that's hard to imagine happening without external intervention.

the north korean people are SO steeped in this deity-like worship they've heaped on their tyrannical heads of state for the last 60 years that they can't imagine any other way of living or thinking.  granted, much of it is based on fear, but after having recently watched numerous documentaries about the country and its people, i think they genuinely believe in their leadership and that it's in their best interests to remain loyal.

like 1930s dust-bowl children who blissfully were unaware of their impoverished circumstances, the north korean people have no idea what facets of the human experience they're missing out on by voluntarily remaining slaves of the state.  they're entirely cut off from the outside world.  they're even cut off from the INSIDE world, as there is absolutely zero free press in north korea.  and, now, thanks to the naive nuke deals made during the clinton administration and several years of continued ineptitude by the bush administration, the DPRK is now a nuclear power.  let the party begin.

however, there's always this little ray of sunshine:  communist societies do not have peaceful dynastic successions of power.  that between kim il sung and his son, kim jong il, was the first in world history.  i think kim jong um is likely to "suffer" a coup d'état when a second attempt is made.  i don't believe the DPRK generals and cabinet members know him as they do/did his two would-be predacessors... nor will they feel the same loyalty.   all are probably eager to put an end to the reign of this thuggish family, and an attempted coup during the DPRK's next period of succession seems likely.

take a look at this video to better understand how these people have been raised to think.  specifically, take note of who it is the cataracts patients decide to thank after their vision is restored.  it most certainly isn't the charitable doctor.

I did not know he was literally worshiped as a God

Scary.

i saw a documentary about when Kim Jung Il's father died.  freaky.  they absolutely have been conditioned to believe their leaders are diving beings.  and we have the Chinese to thank for this.  sometimes i wonder if McArthur had it right when he said we should nuke them into the stone age.  keep in mind i'm basically a pacifist

They're already in the stone age.  Nuking wouldn't make much of a difference.

I read an article a couple of years ago detailing how the "ruling class" of North Korea routinely harvests pubescent girls from schools for their evil pleasures.  It truly is one giant open air insane asylum, and a testimony to the extremes that a socialist ideology is capable of.

b_dubb

few people realize this but ... in front of the Reagan Presidential Library ... there's a plaque with the words "As If The President Were Actually In Charge of Anything".  what do you suppose that means?

ooohhh ... i'm tired.  guess it's bed time for this chimp

yes ... McArthur wanted to nuke China.  the Korean peninsula had been flattenend a couple of times before McArthur got around to advocating the use of nukes

Sincere question:  what does this sort of licentiousness and abuse have to do with socialism?

hard to feel sorry, tho, for the guy who lists all of this personal information, including all of the meds he takes, and then proceeds from there to link to his blog where his real name can be found.

people need to grow up and realize what they are posting anywhere, especially social sites.  the next growth industry will be corporations selling all of your internet surfing history in the same way those bloated scumbags sell your credit history.
