No no. I knew what you were getting at. And I did get attacked by an ostrich at Lion Country Safari.  :P There was also a rhinoceros that swung his snout into the back quarter-panel and dented the car. All true. :)

Merry Christmas, Cam!  I'll miss you.  Praise mst3k!

Merry Christmas, lonevoice!

Miss me?  I thought you were coming with me?  I've been idling for all these years outside your place for nothing?  My car's tires have grown roots...

(idling = Or as my uncle who retired from Friendly Chevrolet would say: "aka putting on the zero miles.  Your odometer might not indicate it, but the wear and tear is going on all the same.  Change your fucking oil on time.")

That part's fine.  I have trouble believing the car was a Galaxy 500.  I bet it was really an Edsel.

What countries are there, that speak English, but do not celebrate Christmas? The list need not be provided in alphabetical order.

I just thought putting him in politics would be controversial.

That is interesting; In the UK you can't be arrested for shoplifting unless you attempt to leave the shop without paying for the goods. It's not unknown for people to take and drink water etc do the rest of the shopping and place the empty can/bottle on the conveyor at the till.

Yeah, you can do that here for the most part but it depends on items and your behavior. Many times they don't arrest even for a shoplifter but issue a citation and restitution (civil) and warn person they cannot return to store (if they do than a criminal trespass charge) or if a repeat offender than charges (criminal also.) But clearly she has some other stuff going on. There also are specific States laws, in most places, about consuming alcoholic beverages (for whatever odd reason most retail "stores" that sell booze etc you cannot consume the item in it. And, in most places like bars etc, if you buy the booze by the glass you cannot take it away from the premises.)
ps: any flooding up your way? Crazy stuff, hope you stay dry.

North of here yes...Been dreadful. Cameron made an appearance in York today and stated that extra funding will be considered to improve flood defences! Wooppeee dooo, that's big of him. Hebden Bridge, is another place hit, terrible there, but the local expert there says it's mainly due to the river not being dredged in recent years, since the local authority ceded it's stake in such things to the Environmental Agency.

Having said that, I think one person has lost their life; which can't be said about the terrifying things happening over in your mid west. I can't imagine what they're having to cope with. Australia has had bush fires and floods too; salt water crocodiles coming inland to the suburbs!

Yeah we just had a bunch of tornadoes killing people north of here and of course had our floods this summer that took out a lot of homes and unfortunately some people. And a blizzard out west of me (but alas the snow did not reach me here.) There is not much one can do about tornadoes (except warnings and get into a shelter) but many of the deaths we get by flooding are people who don't consider the power of water and think they can drive over low-water crossings. It doesn't take much for a car/truck to get pushed away. And the flash floods about the only thing to be done is better building/zoning (my city just bought out a bunch of people's houses) and alerts by water level monitoring in certain areas prone. It seems Australia is always having fires like some areas in our Western states. We got gators but they are nothing compared to the size of those salt-water crocs. I would not want them visiting my house!

Of course it is usually AFTER the fact or tragic event that the politicians become concerned and say they will increase spending etc.

Universal attitude I think wherever in the world you are; fucking politicians.

It's also when the sort of politicians who have built their careers by denouncing the federal government, demanding that it stay out of everyone's lives, and leave the states to their own devices, start clamoring in their hour of need for the federal assistance they normally despise and complain bitterly when it doesn't arrive quickly enough to suit them.

akwilly

I wish they wouldn't clue the label in the middle of the aluminum pans I buy.
