Unsurprisingly, this is the kind of forced blood donation I endorse.

MV I can't read any of the Adsense ads here in Hong Kong but I think they're mocking me.

jazmunda

Also a lot of the ads here in Asia are asking if I'm looking for a middle aged American male. Weird.

the drunken debauchery continues unto asia ...

So when is V due out?  I could use me some "Tall Man."  So to speak.

HAL 9000

Quote from: Camazotz Automat on June 27, 2014, 01:15:07 PMHAL, ol' PAL, my old Godlike Productions friend, who, even before GNS was created, was squeezing binary blood from a Pentium II turnip (though perhaps over-clocked/cycled)... (I could have that chip wrong.  That was a long time ago.)

Actually a Pentium III Dell XPS-T 500MHz, but I'm not quibbling. I've since upgraded to a more reasonable 4.4GHz

Quote from: Camazotz Automat on June 27, 2014, 01:15:07 PMI do get what you are saying.  I should have been more specific, but I'm trying like bloody hell to make my posts shorter and less bloated.

When one looks up the word "loquatious," my name appears, so for me, short posts are a somewhat foreign notion (too).

Quote from: Camazotz Automat on June 27, 2014, 01:15:07 PMI was referring to everyone who benefits in the chain.  It can be the power companies that supply the electricity to keep the blood refrigerated.  It can be the salary earned by the person drawing blood 45 hours a week.  The manufacturer of the equipment used to draw, store, test, store, test some more, the blood.

As well, and to steal a word from MV, all the tentacles involved in just transporting that blood... fuel, tires, salaries....  airplane peanuts to the guy flying with a special shipment.... <snipped>

My post was intended to only clarify a few misconceptions, and provide a few facts. However, my Conservative/Libertarian personal constitution says that two consenting sovereign persons ought be able to enter into (nearly) any contract, so long as said contract does not harm another person, or break laws.

Therefore, the rational/political part of my brain would allow for payment of nearly anything one desires to sell, including body fluids. However, this same part of my brain is confronted with well-done studies that show unequivocally, that an all voluntary system provides for a safer blood supply, and, paradoxically, an increase in donors. Personally, I'd be more inclined to donate if I received $25 for my effort, but apparently this runs contrary to the findings of multiple studies. So I find myself having to acquiesce to the data that show that 'altruistic' donating provides for a more stable and safer blood supply, even though my wallet-brain says otherwise.

I should also note that my free-market brain also allows for salaries commensurate with what markets support, but I do often find salaries of executives of non-profits to be what I consider to be exorbitant and often unconscionable; however, as sovereign people, we could control that which we find objectionable by getting involved, exposing abuses, and not donating to charities which abuse the very trust that the citizenry bestows upon them.

Which is why I do not give money to charities. I give tangible items (when accepted - which is often not the case). For example, "generic" medical telethons. In desperate need of stethoscopes? Tell me what kind and their cost and maybe I'll buy some for you; but give money to a "general account" which may actually be used for airfare, lavish meals, and accommodations for staff at some conference at a warm, sunny destination? Hell no. Take my offer or leave it. The local food bank, however, welcomes my 10 cases of canned vegetables I bought at an awesome price at Walmart (3 cans/$1).

Well, I must prepare for my dose of Red-Eye; yes, I find it funny and quirk-ally intelligent. Those who disagree are cretins.

Conclusion:  Though I cannot sell my blood for a profit, I do have other bodily fluids for sale to the right buyers. In fact, depending on the fluid, method of extraction, and gender, I may likely donate at no charge.

I don't have the date. All that has been thrown around in my "inner circle" is "this year." (some inner circle... as I was unaware part V had been secretly filmed and was already in the can. I suddenly realized my inner circle was just an outer circle suffering from fan delusion. Paul Is Dead, etc.)

I have a few emails out. If I hear back with anything verified, I will let you know.

And, great response/post, HAL. I was specifically intrigued by the studies you cited.

(I am proving as I type that I can, at times, post shorter to the point messages. If I put my mind to it.  Or rather, if I DO NOT put my mind to it. Either way, it does tend to leave a residual ricochet of neu(t)rons in skull city.)

Stages 1 and 2 of this year's Tour de France are being held in Yorkshire.  Stage 3 is Cambridge to London, before heading back to France for the rest of the race.

Well Hal9000 - I can say nice to meet ya, and your donation methods are well received, and people like me that have received similar assistance from people like you in the past, we thank you too.

PS, the Return of the Red Eye is my favorite of all the Star Wars films!

I miss all the drama on Bellgab since it occurs while I'm asleep. By the time I'm up, it's all over except for the postmortem. Please to have some drama on Easter Daylight Savings Time, thank you very much in advance. Other than that, thank you for your most excellent vacuum, MV.

same here. I heard there was an implosion in that thread about solar roads. Anyone who witnessed it feel free to PM me with what happened. Or do I have to wait for the HBO special "Game of BellGab"?

Thanks.  I always loved the mausoleum scenes, with the Tall Man creeping around and the silver sphere flying.  It's good to be weird.

It's official: UC is a peddler of intergalactic filth. Has she no shame? Answers on a postage stamp.

It isn't universally wanted or loved. One reason being that a great deal of the total road repair budget has been put into the routes this charade takes. If you look at the actual routes on maps it isn't that much compared to the hundreds of miles that need repair. Topographically, although it isn't like the mountains of the Alps, it's still pretty gruelling in places. Especially north west of Leeds and between Huddersfield and Sheffield. IF* the weather is nice, the views are beautiful.

* If it's not, it's not so nice.

I'd say it's equal to the square root of squat.  ;D

I wish ISIS would kill American actors named Shia.

I did enjoy the photos of him being removed from the play in handcuffs. What a dick.

He supposedly did about 5 variants of the "do you know who I am?" routine. I hope the arresting officers responded by critiquing him and his decidedly mediocre career.

I hope, in the best possible NYPD way, someone said "I don't give a shit. Get the fuck in the squad car, and mind your head."
