ps: I think the girth issue is that calories have never been cheaper and more work is office- or now even working from home, not physical labor. I suspect food adulterants, marketing, etc also are to blame. But if one is working on a farm, ranch, or fishing boat, especially without much modern machinery, you can have large meals and still be lean. But we take the same tradition of large meals but sit in an office or worse a cube and expect similar results.
