C'mon, who was it? Which one of you haters started this?

Noory seems to love doing Toronto.  I'd be all for handing over Jorch to the tasty Canadians.  Jorch would have to spend full time touring Canada and give up his C2C hosting gig.  In exchange we'll agree to keep Leave It to Bieber.

Well, they have a soft spot for crazy mayors - maybe they see something in Noory...

Bingo. No bid contract too.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/25/michelle-obamas-princeton-classmate-is-executive-at-company-that-built-obamacare-website/

Old news. And no bid isn't too salient a point in this case, due to the security aspects of the strict vetting process and highly selective pool inherent in the private sector doing government contracts. They are incompetent, but it's a larger symptom of government dealing with the private sector in general. Their connection to Michelle Obama is shittacular, but they have an incestuous connection with all of the government, and even the government of Canada as well, because the IT pool is extremely limited.

The Gunslinger is slow going and I think many people get turned off by it and do not continue with the series. It is unfortunate. I loved the Dark Tower books (although The Stand will always be my favorite) and they are definitely worth reading. The 2nd through the 5th books are particularly good and then the last two start to get a bit strange. I won't spoil it, because it is really unique. I enjoyed the weirdness and the ending, many people did not.

I personally thought the ending was FABULOUS.

Hi, Eddie Dean. I have been wondering if your name is a reference to the Dark Tower. Assuming it is, I have a theory. Eddie Dean and Larry Underwood are the same person and they are both twinners of a young Stephen King. They are who King may have become in an alternate world. The occupations fit (writer, musician, Eddie's interest in literature), as well as the addiction issues and the unique sense of humor. Plus, their character flaws are underlined more harshly than most of King's other characters. With Eddie, I think King was imagining what could have happened if didn't get married and have kids, and became completely absorbed by his addictions. They are both among my favorite characters of King's.

My appoligies Birdie. I didn't see your post until today.
Yes, my name was inspired by the character in the Dark Tower series. The DT books are such an epic & complex series. Drawing of the Three is the best IMO because of Eddie & Susanna's character development & how they came to Roland's world to become the ka tet (minus jake) to start their quest for the Dark Tower.
I never considered how Eddie and Larry(from the Stand) could have mirrored Kings in a different 'when'.  Interesting.

I didn't like how King inserted himself into the story in the last 2 books. Making himself a pivotal character in the story seemed forced and somewhat lazy to me. Maybe I need to re-read Song of Susannah and Dark Tower VII again to appreciate the storyline in this regard. I do recall being intrigued how King weaved his real life accident into the story. The Maine walk-ins were really interesting too. The ending was somewhat disappointing after I read it, but I've grown to love the circular nature, because 1. it is true to the story.  2. it leaves room for future adventures, if King finds the inspiration to delve into Roland's world again.

What are your thoughts on the movie/TV series? The last I read, Ron Howard has the rights but every studio passed, due to the cost and length. It would be a film trilogy with 2 TV seasons between the 1st and 2nd film.
I'd like to see Roland, Eddie, Suz and Jake on the big/small screens, but I fear it would never be able to live up to the images I've created in my head while reading the books.
Long days and pleasant nights, may it please ya. Thankie si

I really need to re-read these books again sober. I read the entire series while high.

Should we worry that that interests you? Sort of a "missed opportunity" post, maybe?

Don't we all want to feel pretty?

Some want to do more than feel pretty. They want to kiss it and lick it and comb its hair.

Thanks for answering, and it is nice to meet you. I am both intrigued and horrified by the idea of a DT movie. The best idea so far was to do three movies with a season of an HBO series in between each movie. There is so much information to cover...I think I do trust Ron Howard, though. He did ok with the DiVinci Code. Apparently he is a fan of the series and wants to do it right (thank god). I don't know if new fans would be drawn into the story by watching a movie adaptation of the Gunslinger. Maybe breezing over that part of the story and focusing on The Drawing of the Three would be a better starting point. That is one of my favorites, too. I also love the book about Susan Degaldo and Roland's younger years and would love to see that on screen. I wonder who would play Rhea the Coos?

There is no way the casting can match up to what everyone looks like in our heads. That is always the bad part about reading books first. I was so annoyed by the choice of Molly Ringwald to play Frannie in the Stand miniseries! The miniseries itself was done well enough, though. Some of the Roland choices that have been discussed online are scaring me. I just cannot see Russell Crowe as old long, tall and ugly. I cannot get Clint Eastwood out of my head, but he is too old now.

I loved the ending of the series, even though my first reaction was disappointment. After mulling it over for a few days, I realized there is no other way it could have ended. And I like imagining the ka-tet doing it all again, this time with the Horn of Eld. Besides the ending, maybe the horn will make other differences in how the story goes down for the last time. I also wonder how many times Roland has been to the top of the tower and doesn't realize it.

As for King himself being in the story, my feelings switch back and forth each time I read the series. Sometimes it annoys me, other times I find it hilarious and very appropriate. Somehow, he has always been in every story, we just don't see him.

Long days and pleasant nights, sai!

Oops. Sorry.

I only had 2 pages to go too.

Just kidding. Read them years ago.

I am horrible about that kind of stuff. My husband and I watched season 2 of Game of Thrones on dvd a few weeks ago and immediately after, I looked up the episode guide for season 3 online. He won't let me tell him what happens and I am about to burst from keeping it in. I did the same thing with True Blood and Bleach.

I never understood why people would want to know spoilers. My wife does it all the time and it shits me.
