I'd rather that then the "100 year egg" that they love. (Bury an egg in various stuff, including excrement I've heard (not sure true) like many Chinese crops and it ferments/purified and turns amazingly black color, then eat.)
ps: as an aside, alas, we of Scandinavian, or even just N.European, race have some crazy stuff like this, but more fish based. Fermented herring is banned on some airlines because the cans might explode.

Oh no doubt there is nastier things.......   Just the casualness of it struck me.   "Oh a bird's nest. How cute.  Let's gobble the hatchlings down like popcorn.  Plus I won't share with my buddy"

years ago i became somewhat addicted to eating balut almost every day. every morning there would be balut sellers on the street calling out their sales items. live eels and a rather large tasty beetle were some of the "live" critters i've had in the past. i don't mind the occasional dried grasshopper or cricket these days. not so bad really.  8)

still, i don't think i'd find myself munching on a live baby bird. if i did, i'm sure it wouldn't be the strangest thing i've ever eaten.
