Some people think it looks like an anti-aircraft gun.  I think it looks like a priapic horseshoe crab.

WTF was the CEO of Microsoft doing on a stage wearing a t-shirt and a hoodie?  (Aside from sticking both feet in his mouth, that is.)

Yeah he had a bit of a top-down view saying don't worry about asking for raises, the system will just work for you naturally if you keep at it .. i.e. welcome to the machine, micro-serf.

It does look strange but people tend to forget that different planets form different geological formations. Rocks will look different than those on Earth. You would think that would be common sense, but some people out there actually think its a gun, so I felt the need to explain.

..Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now)

His part in the film is my all-time favorite supporting actor role by anybody.  Absolutely friggin classic.

Funny, but I was just wondering the other day what ever happened to this guy.  I must have been absent the day he flipped out, because I don't remember it at all.

From The Encyclopedia of American Loons - http://americanloons.blogspot.com/

"Rockin’ Rollen Stewart is the born again Christian who achieved some fame for going to virtually every sporting event imaginable in the 80s with a John 3:16 sign, strategically positioning himself to be picked up by the TV cameras. In that regard he, his sign and his rainbow colored wig managed to become something of a fixture in televised sports events (the TV cameramen apparently considered him a pest, though.) He also inspired a lot of copycats.

"Convinced the rapture would take place September 28, 1992, Stewart began writing apocalyptic letters to and a series of stink bomb attacks at newspapers, bookstores, and even a few televangelist ministries to call attention to his prophecy. Since nobody would listen, he ended up taking hostages at a California hotel and threatened to shoot down passenger jets departing nearby LA International Airport unless he got three hours of free TV time. The outcome was life in prison."

Agreed!  He's one of my favorite actors in anything.  I never get tired of watching "Lonesome Dove."  A few years ago there was a made-for-TV prequel that starred Steve Zahn as the young Gus McRae.  After about half an hour, I realized that Steve Zahn wasn't offering his own interpretation of the character, but was actually doing a spot on imitation of Robert Duvall, right down to the way he sticks his tongue out when he laughs.  In fact, that's what gave it away.  I thought that was a brilliant move on Zahn's part, because there's no way he could have made the character any better.

I think he blew a great career playing Gus MacRae in everything he was in for the for 20 years.

This does not even begin to attempt to start surprising me.  Every single one of these religious nuts is only a moment away from giggling into a shotgun.

Lonesome Dove is possibly the best western ever made. Comanche Moon was quite good too. I believe they made four different series but the original is still the best. Duvall is a brilliant actor. I cannot wait to see him in "The Judge"

Fixed it.

Well, I'm off for the rest of the long weekend.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to everyone, or Columbus Day as the case may be.

Or if in Seattle ... Happy "Indigenous Peoples' Day".

Thank you and yes, Happy Indigenous People's Day too.  I was going to add that as an afterthought but didn't want to appear I was making light of it.

Thanks for the Columbus Day shout, but as I told all my Canadian friends who wished me a happy one this year, it's not necessary.  Hardly anyone in the U.S. credits Columbus with being anything more than a lucky guy who initially got some favorable, but erroneous, press, and who did terrible things to the Native Caribbeans in the name of God and Spain.  His big day almost passes without notice here nowadays, and it's not even a national holiday.  Schools are open, mail is delivered, and life pretty much goes on as usual.  There might be parades in places with big Italian-American populations, but I'm not even sure about that.

No mail delivered.

I stand corrected--thanks!  I figured there was a delivery because there was some mail in the box yesterday, but that must have been because I forgot to check it Saturday.

Same goes for her husband.  Let's just hope there isn't any homemade video of them sharing their most intimate moments; the ones when they surrendered unconditionally to their most primal urges and desires, and abandoned all semblance of restraint and decorum in order to slake their carnal thirsts.  I don't want to see that.
