The American establishment (the top x% of the society?) has sufficient ideological control over the other majority such that it will never get to the point of Tunisia or Egypt. Deep Check. Our establishment is so infinitely powerful, that it's an amusing hobby to come up with the handful of examples when it's been successfully defied to its face.

I see it everyday... people coming into the hospital in severe crisis and their biggest concern isn't their need for help but why can't they keep their cell phone. We as a whole have become so materialistic that as long as our creature comforts are met, by and large we do not care about other external matters... I know I am a nutter.

But we have been bought off. Not only that but when some of our compatriots start to voice some criticism they are discredited first maligned second. Sadly I have to admit I have done my share of discrediting first and listening second... I am working on that.

There was a turning point in contemporary society where "necessity is the mother of invention" became "invention is the mother of necessity". Many people need training in how to think critcally about their own life and the world around them.

No disagreement here... but to me, it seems like that crowd is just getting bigger. Yeah people need to be more responsible, no argument, but I don't see it happening. And to be fair this society has its ways of disenfranchising. I mean in WW2 as a society we were asked to sacrifice: gas rationing, metering our use of multiple resources from rubber to food stuffs. A few years ago to be patriotic it was "go shopping."

Turns out homies were laying down some tracks when the local gang in black with badges decided to hit up the joint, sing into the microphones, debate what all stuff like big screen TV to jack for themselves, then eat up the twinkies in the place. All on live microphones after finding 1/4 oz of the occupationally required bad boy rocker recording herbage. Captain Asswipe and the boys didn't have a clue until long after they'd achieved their mission of service and protection. Classic! Sad.

For all around yuks it's worth watching through the quickish ad which precedes the longish newscast at end of article.
