Socialism began to infect America 50-years ago, it destroyed our public schools, the family unit / responsible parenting, and the inner city neighborhoods where it has its greatest strangleholds. It has turned Welfare from a temporary system of help (for people that genuinely need it) into taxpayer funded careers of fraud and non-productivity. Drug use has skyrocketed, crime and murder is a way of life in the inner cities. Cities like Newark, NJ are third-world class war zones. The percentage of children born to unwed mothers that cannot afford to raise their children is a fucking joke. The war on poverty has been the largest fraud this country has ever seen... I could go on, I mean for hours, but, for someone like you, reality is clearly too much for your tender little effeminate ego to handle.

Children from 2 parent homes, living in poverty has slightly (about 1%) increased since 1995 whereas single family homes have decreased by almost 20%. But, it is still 4 times as high as two parent homes.

Unemployment is higher than any year since 1982. It is tough to find employment if there are no jobs.

I read along in politics and have never posted, but I had the same thought. What happened 50 years ago? Well, it can't be the Kennedy assassination because that has little to do with the breakdown of society. Could it be the 1964 Medicaid act which brought coverage to the poor uninsured? Flawed as it is, it has nothing to do with Jerry Springer. Or, perhaps the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr, and Robert Kennedy? Nope again, life went on. Social breakdown certainly can't be laid at the feet of the Social Security Act which happened 80 years ago.

So, and I hope I'm wrong, it must be the civil rights movement which destroyed Jim Crow laws, registered voters and ensured everyone had equal protection under the law. Oh, and a byproduct is that schools became integrated while horrors! the races mixed, and that led to the repeal of miscegenation laws. You love who you love, eh? That battle is still being fought in 2014, with the past as precedent. Funny thing that, but my old college campus has a lovely belltower dedicated to the memory of Schwerner, Chaney (no, not that Chaney), and Goodman, three students who were killed for running a freedom school. I remember this because they were killed on my birthday, a beautiful June day, Midsummer's Day. And people I've spoken to who knew them all said they were idealistic, strong and courageous young men. They didn't deserve to be shot like animals and buried under tons of dirt.

It seems to me that social engineering isn't the problem. These young men were unarmed. They were running a freedom school much like the schools that are run in Afghanistan by women for little girls. Sometimes you read about them in the paper when the girls and teachers have acid thrown in their faces, or are killed outright. And it's the same problem that has plagued this nation for 50 years: the unwillingness of the socially and culturally entrenched to share even an iota of the American dream with anyone else, ironic as that is after the Trail of Tears.  In the end, social engineering becomes the norm. I know loads of interracial families: no one even looks twice. People who hated Social Security, and my stepgrandparents prominent among them, went on to cash their SS checks after a lifetime of paying in. The face of America is changing and people are scared shitless, and all the posturing, threats and insults I hear and read today might have come 50 years ago or 100 years ago when the Irish and Italians landed. Fifty years from now, no one will give a shit.

Nowhere have I said that corporate welfare is justified or that I support it, but you are talking about economic fraud and I am talking about social fraud. The democrats had control of Congress, The Senate, and The Presidency far more often than they did not, for the last 50-years - what did they do about economic and social fraud?
