Anybody Watching V?

MV/Liberace!

Remember the old TV show, V?  I have vague memories of it.  Actually, my specific memory is of a scene where some creature was moving around under the sand from behind a protective glass barrier.  However, I must have been under 4 years old when this show was around originally, as I just turned 30 at the end of October.

Now there's a new V.  I've seen the first four episodes on Hulu.  If you haven't checked it out, I'd recommend you do so.  I can't believe one of the big 3 networks has actually produced something I'm capable of enjoying.  It hasn't happened since Seinfeld.  V has my attention, I must confess.

Anybody who IS watching the new V... is it anything like the premise behind the old show?  I guess I could just go look it up, but then why have a message board?

And why am I using correct punctuation?  I never do that on this site.  Very strange.

Fringe and Flash Forward are my favorite shows currently, I really don't have enough time for another one.  ;)
I did however watch the first episode of  V and it didn't look too bad, pretty similar to the original series if my memory serves me correctly.
I might go to Hulu myself and catch up and maybe form more of an opinion but yeah it didn't look too bad.

yeah, if you're going to bother, i'd definitely recommend you do so via hulu.  far less time wasted waiting for commercials to tick by.

Basically the same idea, they modernized it a little (single mom with the V-loving son instead of a family, black guy as the sympathetic alien) and there is A LOT more action/fighting scenes then there was in the beginning.  The V in old V was used to symbolize resistance, in new V it's a tag for the visitors.  Anna used to be called Diana...also, the aliens were not revealed in the first episode, it took a few in the old V before they were exposed.  I liked that better.  In old V the aliens were more Nazi-ish, persecuting scientists. Wonder if they will do that in new V.  Aliens weren't terrorists in old V, although the whole "sleeper cell of aliens" thing made me LOL. I didn't watch it back in the 80s because I was too young as well, although I also had vague memories about it (the V logo, the ripping skin off to show lizard people) but I did download the mini series and tv series from a torrent and watched over the summer.

I can't decide if I like new V or not yet.  I think the female FBI agent is a terrible actress, and her son is irritating as hell.

i, too, am annoyed by the female FBI agent.  her son doesn't bother me so much, but she certainly does.  the reason is that i think the actress chosen was a bad casting decision.

my immediate reaction upon seeing her was that she was cast because she was capable of looking a little older (credibility as a mom) while still being "hot" enough for tv.  they should have chosen a woman who really looks like the character this actress is portraying.  she's too "actress-ish."  a woman with a less perfect figure who doesn't look like she works out for 2 hours every day would have been far more believable and appreciable.  in other words, someone who LOOKS like a working, single mom.  women really get the shaft in hollywood because they have to look like this woman to get important roles.  the believability of everything suffers as a result, i think.  i always enjoy films/shows better when they feature regular looking people who aren't the epitome of physical perfection.  even better when those people are unknown.

I too never caught the original series because I was too young, but I remember my parents and a couple aunts/uncles were into it.
I did catch a rerun of the original V movie a few years ago on Space and thought it was ok.
I bet David Icke and Red Elk (if he's still kickin around) are both very much tuned in...lmao!
At any rate, yeah it's pretty obvious why the FBI mom was cast with that particular actress...not surprising I guess, and pretty lame.
I think her son is kind of annoying too ( not really too true to life either).

All in all I am interested in the show, but reluctantly so, seeing as how any decent TV series seems to run very short seasons nowadays (by either breaking up the season with a huge break in between blocks or by only playing a new episode every 2-3 weeks).

I KNOW!  Dollhouse, anyone?  Love that show, but Fox is killing it with crappy time slot and taking it off the air for a month.

wow.  i must admit i've not paid attention to anything happening on TV in so long that i was unaware of this sort of scheduling nuisance.  jesus.  i hope that doesn't happen with V.  if it does, i'll lose patience for the whole thing and just forget about it until a few years later when i can watch it all in one fell swoop (as i did with the entire sopranos series).

Amazing to do that - and I wonder how it changes the perception of "theater" that was intended to be seen in chunks of at least a few days apart.

I watched all 5 years of 6 Feet Under (which you should see if you have not!) in two months.

WHEW! -- intense show, black humor - all in such a short time.

Yeah I haven't been into TV much the past number of years because I noticed this trend occuring... I heard that new episodes of V were going to be on hiatus for a number of weeks during the winter Olympics (unconfirmed) and it jaded my opinion of TV all over again lol.
In this day and age it's ridiculous to try and pull out the suspense card by interrupting a season of episodes, because as you pointed out it's alot easier to sit back and just wait for the full seasons to accumulate on dvd etc and then watch.

Ah well, we'll see...

I haven't seen the full run of 6 feet Under, but the few episodes I did catch while it was still in production were pretty good.

That's my influence rubbing off. ;-)
I don't remember the original V because I never saw it, but I am watching and enjoying this new one. OK, so the stunning Brazilian chick who plays Anna (for those who don't remember, she played the "floating prostitute", "space whore" or, to be kinder, "Cosmic Courtesan" on Joss Whedon's Firefly) and the flawless Dutch blonde Laura Vendervoort (?), lately of Smallville, might have something to do with it, but yes, while not yet brilliant, it has potential.

I originally assumed it to be a mini-series, like the original, but if I read the blurb of TheFutonCritic.com correctly, it is to be a series. Whether this bodes good or ill only time will tell. All I know is when Vandergoddess got her kit out in that boy's bedroom, I knew it was worth sticking with the show to find out.

Loved the ending of the last episode, with that whole massive fleet slowly, expertly revealed in that long shot panning back from Earth into space.

Question: What guy here wouldn't mind drilling a chick like either of those, knowing a reptilian lay inside, so long as the outer packaging was as we've seen it to be? I have heard, you know, that once you go reptile, you never come back.

after having suffered through ten episodes of this atrocious excuse of a tv show with no payoff and no story progression amid uninteresting characters who do nothing but piss me off again and again, i'm done.  this show is a failure and i hope it ends.

the acting is just horrid, one of the lead characters is an actress who used to be on lost and i HATED her when she was there, too (due in part to her deformed botox mouth), and the special effects are pathetic.  they look like they could have been achieved by anyone with a macintosh and a bluescreen in their basement.  $4000 will get you the special effects in V.

i will be watching no more.  i have other things to do.

How dare you expose the conditioning we have all undergone to eat excrement and enjoy it.  You've ruined everything.

i have wasted too much electricity giving this show a chance.

Yup MV,...V is a waste. I never bothered watching it after it resumed again.
It's weak in so many F***ing ways.

On a side note, I happened to tune in one night during the first hour of Noory's mess, and he was talking to the guy who plays the teenage son. Apparently the kid had just phoned in as a regular caller a few weeks prior and so Noory set up an interview....It was PAINFUL (as MOST/ALL usually are).
The actor proclaimed his love for Coast and said that he and his dad often listened to it together.
He also mentioned that they HADN'T listened to coast when Art was at the helm.
All I gotta say is: "HOW in the Hell can you LOVE Coast when all you've heard is Noory?"
Ok, ok, I know it's possible because of the different format and all, but this fact really lost the kid alot of credibility from the start! (Not to mention that he came across as highly self-centered---no surprise there though - ;)

this kid on V is probably my least favorite on the show.  he's a total baby (or, at least his character is).  and his acting is shite (as is that of most of the cast).  what a shame only to have known c2c with noory at the helm.

I am watching V. I wanna slam the chick who plays Anna, what formerly played the floating space hooker on Firefly and was am born in Brazil. I guess I also wanna slam the chick what plays Anna's daughter, Laura Vandernoot, formerly of Smallville and a little slice of Dutch Hitler Youth--but her bone structure scares me sometimes.

MV/Liberace!

well... i just watched the latest episode of V... again.  and it was shit.  again.  and the story went nowhere.  again.  and i want to punch something.  again.

i guess that the reason i keep coming back is because i just can't believe that they're failing with such efficiency and gusto to capitalize on what could otherwise be a very interesting premise.  however, they've pulled a total noory here and squeezed out a fresh link right into my drink.  weekly.  i'll probably go ahead and finish the season out, and hope the show ends after this season is over.  i can't invest any time in a new one next year.  i won't.

MV/Liberace!

and by the way... elizabeth mitchell's fucked up botox mouth should just be placed under a riding lawnmower.  she has only ONE facial expression: smirk.  she's just horrid.  i reeeeeally hated her on lost, and was supremely happy to see her character die (i just finished plowing through all of the lost episodes recently).  however, having watched lost its self die amid an atrocious 6th (and final) season, it doesn't seem to have mattered much.  network tv is just bad.

her only available facial expression:

so after i abandoned this piece of shit show, did it pick up any steam?  at the time i was attempting to give V a chance, i could only conclude that they were HOPING to be the next lost.  no dice.
