oh, that sucks.  I'm 3-4 episodes into Season 3.  So we have a crappy final season(8 seasons) capped off by an even worse Series Finale?

Quite possibly the worse series finale ever conceived. I enjoyed most of the show (early seasons.) Then it just started drifting and possibly there were a few sharks questioning what was overhead on several occasions. And then they mercifully ended it. But not before adding one final, unnecessary scene. When you watch it, think of this post and agree that cutting the finale about 2 minutes short would have been sufficient.

The whole concept of this show is fucked. A serial killer who cares enough to only serial kill people he for sure knows are bad people is no serial killer. The reason serial killers are scary to begin with is that the part of their brain responsible for feeling empathy is all fucked up and wired incorrectly, possibly due to traumas or injuries sustained in childhood. They don’t give a shit if you don’t want to be tortured and killed. They want to do it and that’s all that matters to them. Dexter’s just a “hired” assassin who gets into his work a little too much.

Season 7 was better than I expected but from the very beginning I was told by others to stop watching at the end of S6. Didn't listen.

Yes, the finale was beyond comprehension. The final scene of the finale where he's suddenly a in a logging camp sporting a beard? Downright funny it was so bad.

I suppose this could be true. I'm biased as I was pretty much introduced to it by a volunteer who used to greet me (in an english accent) with "Hello, Dexter." I think she was one of the few who really did see through the exterior and knew that I don't really fit in and that most of the empathy / social shit has to be faked.

I do think that the first few seasons did a pretty good job depicting the difficulty when you don't really function like everybody else... Where you struggle a little to understand what you are "supposed" to do and find a way to fake it.

As for the finale- there was a scene that kind of got me as it was right around the time that dad was in a coma from an accident. One day I will touch more on it to give posters like our resident yak herder something to keep for future ammo...
