Lutheran basements?! ???
K_Dubb and others might get it. It is a Lutheran, especially Midwest, thing. Garrison Keillor made a career out of it, basically, with his show. Apparently someone made a play about the subject.

I was baptized Lutheran and I still don’t understand what you’re talking about. Maybe it’s an East coast thing. Care to explain?

It is more a Midwest deal, though happens elsewhere to an extent but maybe no basements. Especially Scandinavian Lutheran churches.  It is cold and relatively easy to dig so there are basements. Folks gather for coffee etc in the basement after church. Group meals, fundraisers, cooking classes, social events, youth events, charitable organizing, and even, depending on place, things like AA etc are held there and ladies often hang out there to gossip, cook, and what-not. Sort of the female version of a small town's barber shop for men in the gossip or news regard. Nothing nefarious.

I'm likely explaining it poorly. K_Dubb or others might do it better justice.

No, I get it. The same things go on at churches here. I’ve just never heard it referred to as a “basement thing” before. It originally sounded nefarious but I understand it’s just the mundane now.

Some funny callers in open line on Friday. ...He got Ian on that one.
Yeah, it was amusing.  Of course, much better than Jorch.  I got a laugh over the old crotchety guy bitching about how we've all been mislead about the atomic bombings and Ian punted and told him he needed to take it up with someone other than him.  Plus, where else could you hear Gatling gun retorts, late at night. ;)

You pretty much nailed it.  I grew up with more than half of my midwest childhood church experiences in a basement.  Pot luck meals, Sunday school, etc.  It wasn't Catholic, so no "funny business" with a priest, though. ;)

Yep. Don't want to go "in the rectory."

I like how some callers try to "get" Ian to agree with their positions by subtly, or not so subtly, claim it is Christian or get on air claiming such. Like the curmudgeon who is upset with "youth" who put their feet up on the upholstery and people who don't like "the beauty we give them" (in his example of beauty is subway upholstery? WTF?) And wants Singapore like discipline (caning, I presume) and "work camps"  and a "one world government" to do so, as all Christians are "waiting for." Hilarious.

Me neither, but it's a commonplace here (I'm in the Northeast), and not only in churches but other meeting buildings and even homes.  Main floor is for more formal gatherings and business, cellar is for less-formal ones, although that's not a rigid rule.  Often in such buildings it's as many steps up to the main floor as down to the basement from the entrance, and just as convenient.

I've been in a VFW HQ where the bar was upstairs (main floor), and one where the bar was downstairs (basement).  I don't know which is more prevalent.

Ian had the best exchange with one of C2C's woo bullshit callers, in this case Joe from Monterey, I've ever heard.  He was the first caller in open lines, and as usual was speaking very authoritatively about spirits and the afterlife and his vast knowledge and experience in the field. Ian tore him apart, challenging everything Joe was putting forth as accepted common knowledge.  He really seemed at wits end when Ian even asked for some reference to the existence of "spirit guides."  This call should be mandatory listening for every wannabe paranormal podcaster.

Ian also expressed "sympathy for the devil," both praising the Stone's song and claimed the best explanation for the situation. If not for the Devil we would not exist he claims.  There is some logic there, I suppose, but he seems to give more agency to the Devil than others (us which is not that uncommon- at least in earlier times- but even God,) somewhat strange for a Deacon?

He also has "challenged warlocks," but they could not harm him.

I've gotten into several pissing matches with Punnett about his such being a Sheep In Wolves Clothing; like the time he once did a show about the fallacy of The Bible.

The examples he gave were in fact actual contradictions as found in various versions, but what he failed to disclose is that all versions except for The King James, are translated from corrupted texts of Alexandria, Egypt.  The New King James is also based upon the faulty, Alexandrian texts.  Then there's the fact that no two of those version even agree with each other.

The King James Version, is translated from ancient Hebrew Scripture, discovered at Antioch, Syria, and they are perfect, without contradiction.  There are only two errors in the English translation of, The King James.
https://web.archive.org/web/20040715090103/mt.net/~watcher/stones.html

Punnett quit Coast to Coast because he was embarrassingly outed as an subversive infiltrator of the clergy, despite his phony excuse.  Notice he's back on the air now.  The Episcopal Church is full of these sneaks.  I suspect he's a high degree Mason, at the level where one swears a loyal oath to Satan.

Ian does have good taste in music, though, I must say, and he is a most excellent interviewer, when he doesn't stack the deck to support his hidden agenda.  Unfortunately, he frequently plants demonic seeds, with great subtly.

A QUICK COMPARISON OF BIBLE VERSIONS
Quick Comparison of Bible Versions
https://www.chick.com/information/article?id=quick-comparison-of-bible-versions

It is often said that all Bible versions are basically the same, that their differences are just minor wording changes. Read the following comparison between the King James Version and the best-selling modern Bible translation, the New International Version, and then decide for yourself whether or not this is true. We have added bold text to assist the reader in recognizing changes.

This is only a very small sampling of the many changes between these versions. For a much more complete discussion of how the New International Version attacks the deity of Christ, and cuts away at the foundations of the Christian church, read "If the Foundations Be Destroyed" by Chick Salliby.

Ian had pretty weak show on COVID-19. But in keeping with his normal stances seemed to laugh at prayer and the usual anti-Trump stuff with pleads to not be partisan etc. Guest was ok but not the best guest on the Spanish Flu of 1918. Better books on it.  Guests calls for a police state without much pushback from Ian was hilarious. And oddly, for a supposed Deacon had no religious ideas or worry about this? Granted prayer bad, apparently, but some need for a Chinese-style control system?  Ian? WTF?

Haven't listened to the other guest, apparent friend of Ian, who had to recant a bunch of stuff with regard to Hiroshima, but is a good guest in telling the story, which was scary stuff, but was just a 'victim' of false witnesses, as I recall Ian claiming in past shows.

Haven't finished it yet but rain finally stopped so cleaning the gutters and picking up the debris but it would appear that Deacon Punnett is having another show about how the Bible is mostly wrong, Heaven and Hell is understood incorrectly, anti-Paulist theology. and his usual agenda. I think I heard the guest say the Dead Sea Scrolls were forgeries and Ian agreed? I might have misheard. Guest also wants, and Ian agreed, that universities should teach real Bible criticism (that many books are fake etc, God never punishes, Devil has no agency on earth, there is only nature, etc) but I wonder why Ian and he so adamant- considering most modern students have no history of church or reading the Bible. So why their insistence on formally teaching how it is wrong? And strange mission for a Deacon, one would think.

This was actually a good show aside from being almost impossible to get through on the phone lines when Ian hosts. A lot of people want to get through to talk to him when he hosts.

Punnett doubles down on Bart Ehrman; Norman Geisler quotes Ehrman stating that he doesn't at all believe in the God of the bible but is open to some sort of spirituality. Probably exactly why "Deacon" Punnett finds Ehrman a comfortable fellow traveler.

Ian had usual blowhard and know-it-all Bloom on last night. His usual stuff but I laughed when he used the imagery -so that the audience would understand- Chinese farm practices like "imagine a four studio apartment" with fowl, pigs, sewage, and a pond etc. And Howard, "as a Jew" approves of "Project Paperclip." Ian claims nobody knows about "Project Paperclip" except from some Netflix show now? And he has been guest hosting C2C for how long? It took 20 or so minutes for the Deacon to mention Easter and then as an apology to Howard and explanation how 'every Sunday was Easter' in early days and so church not necessary and then some digression about how Paul operated a "spy network" to which Howard said "like Communist Party USA."

Maybe the Deacon is drifting back to threatening the Hoover.

"Chinese farm practices like "imagine a four studio apartment" with fowl, pigs, sewage, and a pond etc"

Sounds about right, although, it's probably closer to a one room slum dump, set-up to be the perfect microbial generator.  And look at all the havoc that's resulted from this stupidity.  Break out the flame throwers, you scumbag ChiComs, assuming you didn't purposely generate this crap and bumble it out of the lab.  Made in China has taken on a new twist.

Herman's Hermit Peter Noone was a fun guest. Ian certainly likes rock n roll so a good interview. Ian got testy with some callers, especially one who brought up the Joose. But handled the usual callers well. Ian also lamented why were didn't have more intel about Corona-Chan but rightly said we shouldn't trust China, or Russia. And why we would wait for China to "tell us the truth" about anything.

Ian called out both Mike the Millennial and Annie from Alabama for their tiresome shtick, something George would never do.  I have no doubt Annie will take not the hint, she's too dense to realize Ian was making fun of her.  Mike?  We'll see.

I enjoyed Cornelius’s call. He launched into his usual speech, but Ian kept interrupting and trying to engage him in a normal conversation. Corny was discombobulated by having to listen and respond.

Mike must have gotten the message, he didn't mention his millenial status on Friday night.....until Ian brought it up.  Mike was talking about using Coast Insider, correcting himself by pointing out it was actually his Mom's account.   Ian's response was that was so millenial of him.

Yeah, he can fight back against guests and callers. And is a good interviewer but shy away from controversial topics. And also I get sick of him always pushing his far-left,ecumenical liberal agenda and still find it a bit 'off' how some kind of deacon is so into subjects of porn, drinking, weed, rock music, and sordid "true crime" tales. But I guess he is trying to be "hip and with it," Phil Hendrie reference.  ;)
