I had dinner with some Russians once, in, of all places, Florida.  The first course was some awful beet soup with a huge glob of Miracle Whip (they seemed to prefer it to sour cream) and a main course of all you can drink ice cold vodka, served in regular water glasses, filled to the brim.  As awful as the soup was, it’s a wonder I remember it.

Beet soup and vodka?! Seems pretty chincey. Communism.  ::) ;D

Ripper: Have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water?

Mandrake: Well, I can't say I have, Jack.

Ripper: Vodka, that's what they drink, isn't it? Never water?

Mandrake: Well, I-I believe that's what they drink, Jack, yes.

Ripper: On no account will a Commie ever drink water, and not without good reason.

Beet soup with Miracle Whip was all the glorious workers for the commie revolution could afford.  The cheap vodka was to drown the sorrow.  Let’s hope we don’t get to try this “fun” experiment.  I hate beet soup.

Ha!  One of my favorite all time movies.  I’ll sometimes watch”Fail Safe,” then I’ll watch “Dr. Strangelove” to cheer myself up. ;)

Same here. Both great movies.  Dr.Strangelove is so well done you can laugh just as hard as the first time you see it.

Rense had some Aussie on who was tying Corona-Chan to Macfarlane Burnet*  and fears over Chinese encroachment having seen what the Japanese did with biowar and occupation prior and during WWII.  And so started worked on designer bio-weapons using Corona viruses. According to guest Burnet had connections to Bill Gate's father, WHO, Rockefeller Foundation, and advocated eugenics and 'sustainable development' before that was popularized around the world.

* Guest had bought and remodeled his house and suspected some "dark energy" in the house. He was going to have an exorcist. His marriage broke up. Everyone who has lived in the house has had problems. The last owner lost millions.  Guest also worked in real estate in Vegas and had some interactions with the Trumps. He claims Trump 'knew' he was going to be President decades ago and it was his destiny. He further claims many "Faustian bargains" in Hollywood and in the media but sometimes they don't even know that they are doing the devil's work.

Carlin was a brilliant comic.  I wonder how long he would have lasted in today’s social climate before he was placed in the cone of silence.
He wouldn’t have lasted through Hippy,  Dippy Weatherman.

Hahaha all the lengths to which I have gone to get Russian-style sour cream!  Some dairy in Canada makes it.  And they prefer some American industrial concoction.  What a country!

Thanks WAN! Great site. Not only find the quotes but show the movie clip. George Norway should use before he gets another movie reference wrong. The interwebs once again further eliminating need for recall, typing, or even searching. Technology is great!

Apparently the Russian sour cream is even better (more fat) than most other European or our stuff here. Intriguing. I'm sure great on pancakes. My quick references say that Norskie sour cream is approx 35% fat so similar like used for Rømmegrøt?

It would be epic if the Russian vaccine for Corona-Chan is Russian culture of rough cigarettes, lots of vodka, wife-beating, graft, pickled items, and sour cream dishes.

Yeah I have groused about it before, the way our dairy standards are way lower than Europe's in general.  It is a national embarrassment, and it sure hasn't made us any thinner.  Our sour cream is basically sour half-and-half.  Try using that for cake filling like making medovik honey cake and you will get a slidey mess.  More shit to fix!

Maybe you should move to a place like Yellow Springs, Ohio.  Young’s Dairy is pretty sweet and just down the road.  Yellow Springs is big on natural stuff and is a pretty free wheeling place, for being a small town.  Check it out.

Hahaha for why am I moving to Ohio, of all places?!?!  I need the salt air or I will dry out and stink like an old piece of cod.  Young's sounds neat; I'd love to try their Jersey cheddar.  I can just see crashing their Family Values Weekend -- in my hot pants I fear no man living.

J/k find me some sweet old hunky farmboy who can smile all the way to his eyeteeth and I will be there tomorrow.

Ha!  There’s plenty of “hunky farm boys” in the good ‘ol Buckeye state. ;)  Southwest Ohio might surprise you.  Sure, it doesn’t have some of the dramatic scenery of the Northwest but it has it’s own subtle beauty, with lots of beautiful parks and more “woke” places, like Yellow Springs, the Oregon District in Dayton, and Over The Rhine in Cincy.  Hey, you’ll be in the land of BG’s own Uncle Duke.  Maybe he can introduce you to some hot shot pilots or men in uniform at WPAFB. ;)   ;D

I have never had Russian-style sour cream, but if this is how to make the regular stuff:

it might be a good jumping off point...  Hell, I think I am going to do this next time I want a little sour cream instead of buying it.  I usually have all those ingredients on hand and hate buying a whole tub because it usually goes bad before I work through a whole pint or more (stupid to buy less than a pint of sour cream, you'd think they make it out of liquid gold or something...)

I have never been to Ohio or even thought about it.  Do they have lightning bugs and pawpaws, or is that more south?

Ooh yeah I am trying that thanks!  Apparently all you need to do is culture heavy cream -- I have a little yogurt maker that should work perfectly.

I grew up in the sticks in Ohio and Summer nights were filled with lightning bugs, a glorious sight.  Now, at least when I’ve been back there, not so much.  Yeah, paw paws are more Dixie.

I’m serious, though, you might really like Yellow Springs, although small.  One of my favorite cities in all of the states is Cincinnati.  I’ve walked the downtown, the OTR, crossed over the Ohio river on one of the several bridges by foot to enjoy the Newport and Covington hangouts more times than I can remember and greatly enjoyed the place ... restaurants, bars, music venues, etc.  The Oregon District to the north in Dayton is pretty cool, too, but not all that large. It’s all fun, as long as you don’t get shot. ;)

BLINK 2019 in Cincinnati was fantastic!

Some of Phil Hendrie's guests has a field day with Cincinatti back in the day. Circa 2001. One guest was selling a commemorative plate with the proceeds going to some unnamed charity for the community. As the bit went on it was revealed that the plate featured "a young black man throwing a burning trashcan into a shop-keeper's window" with the words "Get It Together Cincinnati" scripted around the perimeter. Callers were disgusted and questioned how this plate will bring the community together. Another guest was an 'expert' and claimed that blacks in LA had it better because "California has sunny, nice weather" when rioting and Cincinnati has gray skies, rain, and winter. And "mountain trash" from Appalachia. "At least Reginald Denny could look up from the street into a sunny sky."

At one point, Barr seemingly suggested that the federal response to the pandemic should be guided by politicians and elected officials rather than medical experts and the broader scientific community.

“The person in the white coat is not the ‘grand seer’ who can come up with a right decision for society. A free people makes its decision through its elected representative,” he said.

The PLA defector believes that Chinese intelligence has penetrated the U.S. government and is therefore wary of cooperating with the CIA and other Western spy agencies.”
