Since our resident Science Apologist has abdicated it is left to me to point out that it is very much in the nature of science to adjust to changing information, particularly when dealing with a crisis whose nature is largely unknown, and that by first herding people into their homes and then shooing them outside as studies warrant it proves is is not in the service of any particular ideology but is, rather, for the most part, sincerely trying to help.

Things like the park and beach closures (and now the smoking guidance) were criticized early for not being evidence-based -- there were precious few documented cases of people catching it in the open air -- and were probably just bureaucrats panicking and shutting down everything they could get their hands on.  Or, in the case of smoking, parroting received wisdom that kind of made sense until surprising developments intervened.

But intervene they did, the new info is out and not being suppressed despite the fact that it contradicts generations of official programming in the case of smoking and, in the case of sunlight and Vitamin D, despite really unpleasant associations with race and skin color.

That is why I can't take the idea of a conspiracy seriously.  There is no official line, half the states are doing one thing and half another, guidance is wildly contradictory, and, outside a few earnest liberal enclaves, there isn't a prayer people will accept the more draconian prescriptions of contact-tracing which is the scariest thing on offer.  On the national level, the government has not waited for it but has moved on.  If it is a conspiracy, it a a funny one designed to make people even more cynical and distrustful of government and authority, which is fine with me.  But take heart, there are tales of bureaucratic boobery and official hypocrisy aplenty and those never get old.

Well that is not to say there aren't opportunistic forces working this thing to advance an agenda, but they've been quite open about it.  A number of articles showed up a couple months ago when this first started claiming this was Big Government's chance to prove its usefulness, but we know how that worked out now.  Sheer boobery.

I think doc's conspiratorial suspicions are largely salutary but they are a small-minded popularized shorthand for the truths about human behavior and power aggregation found in organizational theory that aren't really digestible by the masses.  Even he doesn't take them seriously.

    Americans who wish to hide at home and wear masks, are at liberty to do so. Why did the Boy In The Bubble, live in the bubble, instead of merely wearing a mask? Do the walls of your hovel keep all the oxygen out, or does it simply get just a bit stuffy in there? The only reason that the dentist wears a surgical mask, is to keep your blood, spit, and phloem, out of his face.

The orders however are worded as suggestions, stopping short of violating the Constitution, because even if the courts don’t reopen, Common Law will prevail, and the bastards aren’t entirely confident. This is an experiment as much as anything. It’s already starting to backfire.

    The US policy is that if attacked with WMDs, that the response it to go nuclear. Since China and Russia still exist, they didn’t do this. The fact that the President has not been forthcoming with an explanation, means that he’s either in on the gag, or else his spooks did to him what they did to JFK. In any event, the President is not demonstrating any constructive leadership against it. We are being played.

    I’ve never read anything from you Jeff, in support of The Bill Of Rights. I don’t buy the plead for sacrificing Rights in exchange for safety.

The whole lock-down video, zoom, etc meetings and news with the politicians, Hollywood types, and media broadcasting from their house has been amusing. Without the professional hairdressers, makeup girl, lighting and camera professionals many look more ugly, older, out of shape than I thought. Also maybe, especially Biden, but even the professionals don't seem to understand camera placement, where to look when talking, eliminating any controversial or ugly backgrounds, and so on. People caught with no pants, porn open, ugly look up nose, or look down at bald spot due to bad camera angle. A guy who threw his cat and drank beer during a meeting. And other funny things. Fauci opted for the "overhead" cam shot but I suspect it is at the normal level but he forget to sit on a few telephone books.

Though Trump seems to have been formerly friendly with the Clintons and some other Democrats I doubt he was as big a bundler for them back in the day. It was more throw money around so projects aren't blocked and hedging bets. Jim was one of the most prominent 'get out the vote' person for the Democrats in the Bay Area especially but also Brown used him for Statewide purposes. Even that homosexual Milk guy with the penchant for adolescent boys who got shot by the other Democrat- who tried to use the "Twinkie Defense" infamously- hung out and used Jim for his political purposes.

What does this have to do with Corona-Chan? I have no idea.
