I used to collect stereo views and stereoscopes.  They can still be found in antique shops and flea markets.  Anyway, I trained myself to see the 'stereo' in the views without a viewer.  It is a procedure called free-viewing.  It comes in handy when you are looking at the stereo cards without a viewer.  The same technique can be applied to those magic picture things.  That shark picture was hard to see.  It took several minutes of gazing before the image took form.
