I reached out again the other day to my contact in the Nye Sheriff's Office. He said they are just as frustrated and would check in with the medical examiner again yesterday. No update yet.

While it seems odd it is not that uncommon. Remember we are dealing with government agencies and often out-sourced to other companies or agencies. And we are dealing with Vegas with besides the mass shooting likely has to deal with a lot of crime that requires autopsies, DNA tests, and Tox screens (suicides, murders, ODs, rapes, etc.)  Some places have untested rape kits or even murder stuff that hasn't been tested for many years!  And even the FBI lab was in trouble a decade or so ago for bad procedures, etc.  Some women here are suing the city because their rape kits were mishandled and never tested (they kept DNA evidence in a fridge that was unplugged, and other problems.)
