Woman who had sex with a lizard guy is a classic. What ever happened to her? (I think MV should track down all of these old crazy guests for an AB tribute show).

Also, I always enjoyed the Philadelphia Experiment show.

"From the high desert and the great American southwest"..."Turn your radio off"...."West of the Rockies, you're on the air"...

Rest easy old friend.

Gotta say it was nice to see all of you guys (and wonderful gals!) last night in the chat room. You helped take the edge off of what was for me like all of you ,a sad day. Will miss you a lot Art. Your voice and stories carried me through a lot of nights. Playing Ghost 2 Ghost all weekend. My favorite episodes! And to you folks here in BG, thanks for renewing my love of "spooky" shows and helping me  find Art again. I guess I owe Art for bringing me here to make some new friends. Stories? got one or two. One of the first times I listened was when he was in California doing West Coast AM. Flying nights out of a desert local and listening on the ADF radio in the aircraft.  Arts show was mostly politics at the time but he was slowly getting into conspiracy and the paranormal. Someone called in about some "black" helicopters flying with no lights. I had to grin, because we were the black helicopters. LOL! We weren't well known yet so no one knew what we did. Funny! If I knew I wouldn't get in some deep shit and had a landline ( no cell phones yet) I would have called in just for fun. And no, we weren't UN terror troops, just guys doing some irregular training. But listening became a habit so when he moved to Nevada and changed to Coast to Coast I listened whenever the band was right and I could hear him. Once he was syndicated I listened whenever I could.

Thanks Art You will be missed W6OBB de AD5NW  R.I.P.

There is no single show or memory. It was the entire idea of paranormal talk that Art brought out.
And then of course there was his voice.
His voice was perfect.

I keep waiting for art to come on here an say it was all A mix up or aomething 😥

No. The one I was talking about was some guy who would camp out by a phone booth in the middle of the desert, and Art called the phone booth. The guy answered and a wonderful, crazy conversation ensued.

That show is blocked on youtube now and isn't in the torrent. If anyone has it, please share it with us.

I'll always be able to look into the vertical pupils and strange behavior of a cat and remember Art's musings that cats were probably extraterrestrial in lineage.

From the shows about caves in the bowels of the Earth (Bonnie Crystal) to the moment he pondered the existence of God when the Hubble picture of the Orion Nebula was released, he cultivated curiosity like no other host has or probably ever will.

As the years march on and AI develops and government secrets are slowly revealed and spun and chewed by paranormal radio as they always have, Art's shows will be referenced as pop-culture milestones - kind of a diary of a subterranean pulse of the nation in the last years of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st. "From pole to freezing pole" will echo in my mind as we learn what has really transpired in Antarctica.

Art had seen my meticulous list of his bumpers and got a hearty chuckle from my "OCD Open-lines" comment. While speaking with him at first your heart would race, but quickly his paternal tones had a very calming effect.  You knew you were on a ride on his ship, but if you stayed the course with him, he would make sure you arrived in one piece. He was far more of the character of the Greatest Generation personality-wise than the Boomers and anything but Silent. While on the bleeding edge of broadcast and HAM innovation, there was something about him that still suggested ancient. He was an amusing bundle of contradictions that just somehow fit together to make an air of mystery.

Rest (or Explore) in Peace, Art. The Universe now awaits...

Correct

My first experience with C2C and Art Bell was back in 2003 with the GIS.  Scared the shit out of me and I couldn't wait for more.

I'm guessing that his favorite news station, CNN, doesn't even know who he is. That's gratitude for ya! ;D

he had such great bumper music. Some songs instantly transport me back to the dead of night in the 1990's when I hear them again.

FOX and NPR as well as Washington Post had interesting obituaries on Art.

In the 1990's, listening to Art Bell, late into the night, was an experience. It was like entering another dimension of time and space, all by way of my Realistic DX-440.

Thanks Art! You were & are The King of Late Night Radio.

Area 51

hahah we listened on a DX-440 too

I love hearing the programs that were airing on the nights that my kids were born. Both of them were born during the airing of a new show.

Heard it on FOX then all the majors picked it up

Bob Lazar shows were allways good. Open lines where he was reading about a gopher sucking truck gave me a chuckle.  Dr. Democrat. The socialist in Kansas City, JC, Fidget, all the callers with weird names. The giggling girl that would call and Art would take a different kind of flirty tone with.

Fave Art show.  The night before 9/11 happened. He had a guest on about Pirate Radio. They played clips of different pirate stations and told the story of his own pirate station in his barracks when he was in the Air Force. Really interesting stuff!!!!

Rush Limbaugh will priolly have sometho say today i think they were friends.

I guess it isn't so much the content of the shows that sticks with me, it's where I was in my life when he tagged along.

The summer before I started college, spending all night out in the garage getting spooked, bouncing a tennis ball against the wall and listening to Coast. The October when I went camping with my parents, and sat outside with a kerosene lamp between my knees to keep me warm, and a crappy, staticy radio up to my ear until the batteries died. Listening to one old show after another for hours and hours and hours on long car trips. The excitement of hearing his voice again when DM and then MiTD started.

Sadly, I didn't get to hear many of his best shows live. If I had to pick some that stick out to me that I've heard multiple times each, it would probably be the shows with Malachi Martin.

Anyway, I can't think of any media/entertainment figure I've spent so much time over the years listening to. Maybe that's why this makes me feel sadder than I would have expected.

Coast to Coast Art Bell Tribute Show

QuoteThursday - April 19, 2018 George Noory will host Art Bell Tribute Show

Coast to Coast AM presents a special tribute to Art Bell, with surprise guests throughout the night, classic audio clips, and more.

Uncle Duke

I've posted about this before, but the single funniest open lines call I ever heard Bell take was on a night he had a designated line for callers to relate bad or weird date stories. "Dates from Hell" I think he called the segment .  A ditzy sounding young female caller started telling him about this guy she went out and to bed with, apparently he was both well endowed and extremely flexible.  She sort of rambled, Bell peppering her with questions and milking the story for all it was worth.  It was obvious where she was going with the story, and Art let her get right up to the point of saying her date had orally pleasured himself before he cut her off and casually went to his next call.  I damn near shit myself laughing.

They've made me cry from laughing. They're so good.
Agreed.  Something I was surprised to hear, during his weeklong tribute to Art, either yesterday or the day before Phil said the General Johnson Jameson character was based on Richard C Hoagland.
