I have been using VLC for about 12 or 13 years. It's been my go-to player about that long, although I prefer not to use it for listening to music because I think Winamp sounds a little better because of the EQ/scoop control. I do listen to streaming talk on VLC though because sometimes it's useful to bring the volume up beyond 100% so I can drown out any background noises in other programs that might going on and I can't do that on Winamp. For actual music I choose Winamp, for all video and spoken audio I use VLC 100% of the time except in a very rare case.
I always wished VLC would have teamed up with a disc player manufacturer that would base their innerds around the VLC codec package. My DVD players typically played AVI, MPEG/MP4, WMV, MKV, but one single player would usually not play all of the above. I used to have 2 players hooked up so I could play almost any compressed media from DVD-R at a moment's notice, but I never had one that played FLV files.
I think most if not all TVs now have a USB input. But I bet they still cockblock many file formats. I am pretty out of the loop with videogames and video anything this decade. But I do know that I hate HTML5, and Facebook, and 2.0 horseshit wordpress pages that scroll for eternity like it's 1995. Fuck all that simplified swipe and flail Fisher Price bullshit. I want inline frames and target="this frame" with no 3-4-5 clicks to get into a fucking inbox and no eternal scrolling. The internet has gone to hell in a handbasket, and so has file formatting.
Gonna start a Frameset Cult and build a recruitment module in SWF format just to piss in the faces of the hipsters, the W3C, Scroogle, Microsatan, Apphole Inc, and the rest of these shit-eating tyrants.
