His records are available. They were pre-electronic. He may have been given a microfiche copy of his SRB or "Official Military Personnel File" (OMPF) at discharge.

He can file a Form SF-180 Request for Official Military Personnel File from the NPRC.  https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center
