What? Iran in international waters following a US ship away from its own back yard? How very dare it! Aren't we all very lucky that the old USSR didn't fire back when we followed them for miles and miles, and on at least one occasion laid up in Murmansk harbour for several days...Sure it was the secret squirls in their big bad black boats, but things could have got very noisy very quickly if they'd been discovered. The Soviets of course did the same with us.  Iran are just more overt!

Yep, but we didn't bitch when we got followed in other country's waters. Just part of the game.

Our navy (well all the services) have been systematically reduced over the last dacades or so; No wars to fight I guess with those who will fight back with ships and bombers...Islamic terrorists tend not to advertise their airforces' presence, or the ships they have in harbours... And as Saudi Arabia have their fingers in various pies in that vein, we (The West) do what any self respecting anti terrorist entity do; we sell very powerful and deadly weapons to Saudi Arabia...
