Easily Add Multiple Quotes When Posting

Started by MV/Liberace!, January 04, 2013, 10:32:02 PM

MV/Liberace!

Today I was asked about this, so I'll assume there are other users who are unaware of this feature.

When posting a reply, if you scroll down a bit, you'll see a history of every message from the thread in which you're posting.  Next to each message is an "Insert Quote" link.  If you click that, it will insert that message as a quote in your post.  It will place the quote at your post's current cursor position.

Oh, dear God, no! Say it isn't so! Has the genie been let out of the bottle? Will CoastGab be turned into THIS?:

Say it ain't so.

"Multi-quoterers" should be spayed or neutered.

Yes, but that IS a pro-Noory forum. :)

Might be sensible to set a limit per post (say, 5 messages or so).  This software handles multi-quoting in a much cleaner fashion, anyway.

no... what you've linked to are "nested" quotes, which this forum doesn't allow.

you mean I just click on where it says quote to quote people?? and here I am scrolling up and down the thread trying to get every word right???  This is awesome thanks Em this feature is going to change EVERYTHING!!

Aha! Now I see what you mean by "Insert Quote." Totally awesome. Maybe feature has been there all this time and I never tried it - I've been doing copy/paste/copy/paste/copy/paste/copy/paste/copy/paste/copy/paste all this time  :( Will make things a lot easier.

Is the multi-quote capability connected to fact that the "cut" and "paste" functions appear to have faded into the void (which BTW were my favorite in the whole wide C2C world)? Or have I overlooked/misread/misunderstood the simple answer once again?

I'm guessing I'm just screwed on cut/paste, mainly because that's the way it always seems to go. And secondly because of entropy and Newton's Laws. And even broader, more universal concepts, which hold that you don't get something for nothing; a propitiation must be made for everything; an addition on one side of the equation calls for a subtraction on the other, etc. So, if we get multi-quotes; we must lose cut/paste.

Never noticed that. What I'd like is a reply form that supports the browser's inline spell checking. Maybe it's just in the quick reply form that it doesn't work?

and i wish there was a "like this post," as apposed to the user karma you tested out a while ago. i'd love to upvote posts sometimes instead of responding with my trademark crappy replies.  ;D

chrome's spell check works fine for me, though i never use the quick reply so i'll have to take a look at that.

i'd like that, too.  the problem is i can't find some way of implementing this type of system without people going batshit.
