Art Bell

I was listening to the stream a few nights ago and had a thought. Sometimes those things happen in between all the streaming bits and bytes. The thought went, Art Bell is being selfish. He has a real God given talent that impacts the world. He makes a difference. The subjects he investigates and brings to a public forum can be very important.

But he refuses to implement this talent. I don't think 7 nights a week 5-7 hours a night of radio time is necessary. Once a week just to get things moving. A nice little web based show.

I am sure there are extraneous reasons for not going on air. Maybe the non compete. Maybe it might be because he quit smoking and being behind the mic gives him that urge again.

Maybe the memories of what once was with Ramona prevents Art from hitting the airwaves again.

Yes he has a right to not put himself out there again. But I think it is a travesty in some ways. Just a thought. Not that serious about it though. Love the Art man and would like to see him beat the crap out of Clear Channel. As well as substance to some important subjects.

That age gap thing still amazes me. 40 years, man.

To put it in perspective...I'm fast approaching middle age. But for me to have such a disparity, my bride would have to been born in...oh yeah, she hasn't been born yet! Circle a random date on a 2015 calendar.

Yikes. I grew up with a kid whose father was 35 years older than his mother. It was a really creepy "The Night Porter" type of scene. Needless to say, he was fucked up. Imagine being born in 1976, and you have older half-siblings born BEFORE Pearl Harbor.

ItsOver

The way I look at the situation is to be happy with what we got from Art when he was on the air.  Nothing lasts forever, although it's definitely feeling that way with Noory.  That's what's really aggravating, though, to go from broadcasting heaven to broadcasting hell.

McPhallus

Sorry, but I think you are the one being a bit selfish here (unless your post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek).  Art did his job, was well-paid for it, and retired.  He doesn't owe anyone anything at this point.  It's not really his fault that the current incarnation of the show is a crap-fest.  He's already cashed out.

I'm convinced that if Coast had a single full-time host who was halfway decent, we'd likely stop hoping so hard, against all logic, for Art to come back.

I guess I did not state my thoughts correctly. I never said he owed us something.  Essentially said. What a waste of talent. But furthermore you really did not get what I said.

It has nothing to do with money. If that is all life is about then we are screwed. I said Art bell has a God Given talent to speak to people, especially on the radio. That his way of presenting issues in this wasteland of a radio world now that everything is so consolidated or monopolized would be a game changer.

Also, I would never want him to be a host on Coast to Coast. He would never be one. Too restrictive. Too, should I say, a one sided message at this point. His love of radio could be just as beautiful on an internet stream. Art Bell has a way of highlighting esoteric, scientific and philosophical issues that no other person can on radio. Something that is sorely missed in this 20 seconds or less news bite society we now live in.

Usually if some people don't understand a point it is the person explaining the thoughts problem. So another angle on what I meant.

Coming from an artists perspective. Did Pablo Picasso retire? Matisse, Monet?. Myles Davis, B.B. King, Phil Lesh? They can't. Their talent is in their blood. It is what they do. It is their bliss.

Now I am not as talented as any of those people listed above but I could never "not create". Maybe being a radio host is not the same thing? But for Art Bell, radio was his pallet, his guitar, his sheet music.

Over and out. Back to regular programming.

I believe Art regularly flexes his talent on HAM radio. It'd be nice if now and then he would record a HAM session for us further-flung fans.

It's illegal to rebroadcast Ham radio, so that's out.

That may be part of the appeal.  No fans bugging him, no corporate pinheads, no advertisers, no affiliates, etc.

i don't think that's correct.  i think it's illegal to play a broadcast on ham radio.  perhaps i'm wrong.

Juan

When I worked in TV news, and we covered Ham fests, both the people at the fest and our own engineers warned us that it was illegal for us to record anything received over ham radio and to then rebroadcast it.  As I think about it more, the prohibition was against using the traffic for "personal gain."

Looking further -from a ham radio site eham.com

THE WIRE AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERCEPTION AND INTERCEPTION OF ORAL COMMUNICATIONS SECTION 705 (47 USCA 605) states that it is unlawful to disclose the content of radio transmissions overheard unless they are amateur radio traffic, broadcasts to the public or distress calls. It is unlawful under this section to use traffic monitored for personal gain.

and this
One could argue in that by using a persons recorded conversation from amateur radio on an Internet website, this could be intended to further enhance that Internet website to attract more users to it for the purpose of personal or commercial gain.

Well part of the reason Art quit is he didn't want to pimp himself out to Premier like George did.
Listening to the slick greasy segways George does for "incomeathome.com" is sickening, the company is just Herbalife using C2C for their multi level marketing scam :o.
Also those fake "Buy Gold Now" interviews and "Carnavorna" crap is disgusting. George will read any script placed in front of him. Art has some scruples and class, he won't be anyone's bitch 8)
When someone takes your creation that you lovingly crafted for years and turns it into an abomination,
that's the time to say like Cartman, "Screw you guys, I'm going Home!"
Good for Art, he married a cute sweet young Asian gal like I did,(Mine is 16 yrs younger than me.)
Got away from the Corporate rat race, and he's having a blast! When our last kid is out of the nest in 6 yrs, My wife and I are heading out to Nevada by my parents to some little hole in the wall town too!

how did you and your wife meet (if you don't mind my asking)?

scottydawg

Well we met at a telemarketing company that was handling the incoming calls for the AT&T cellfone service back in the late 90's. I had a full time job a part-time job, but needed extra cash to save up to move back to Nevada by my parents. I had moved back to the frozen tundra to help take care of my grandparents in their declining years. After my grandmother passed away it was time to move back to Nevada and see if NHP still wanted me. Then fate stepped in. I wasn't looking to get involved or attached. Had seen her on the phone floor in passing. I had some fascination for asian women thanks to the James Bond flicks.
But one day in the breakroom she was warming up her lunch and was singing to herself. My grandmother always did that, I told her she reminded me of my grandmother. A few days later she said that comment got under her skin. Now the spooky part, It was one month to the year that my grandmother passed away. Plus I had seen Mai a year earlier at an Osco store when they were having a Grand Opening sale.
Had thought to myself, "Gee, she's cute, too bad I don't usually stop at this store." We found out later we had applied for work at Walmart, but at stores on diff sides of town! Long story-short, we figured out our deceased grandmothers got together in the afterlife and decided we would make a great couple.
and now the kicker C2C fans will love, our now 13 y/o son told us when he was 3 y/o that he picked us to be his parents! So he must have been in some cosmic waiting room until we concieved him!

This story made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It also made my sphincter involuntarily tighten, but I'm pretty sure it was all part of my body's automatic. physiological response to high strangeness that I could only react to as an unspecified, undetected threat.

I'm surprised no one here has posted this...or if they have, I didn't see it. Anyway, this was posted on the fantasticforum at some point in the last couple weeks...

From Art Bell
Hello!

I would like to express my sorrow at the passing of Shirley. She was a bright light for so very long here and such a great Fan, she will be missed by all.

It might be a good moment for me to say I will NOT be returning to Coast in any form. In fact I have requested that Premiere Radio cease Broadcast of the Saturday "Somewhere in Time" shows. My reasons for this are at this time private. However if they choose not to do so (as is their right) I will make my reasons Public as is my right.

I know it is a well worn phrase but, please stay tuned.

Art

So make of that what you will, for whatever it's worth. Again, apologies if it's already been posted.

And btw, for those who may have wondered,  I know I've been quiet this summer, mostly just busy and hibernating...hope all is well out there with everyone!

(And I still don't like John B. Wells.)

Welcome back. The pro-Wells people have been acting up lately and the rest of us could use the support.

"Don't clutter this up with facts and accurate information. Please, it's quite uncouth." This is at the top of the website after reading how this guy LIES so badly... i found it funny.   i also find it funny that anyone would  add truth  and coast to coast as if coast to coast is into  the truth. its has more stories then wwe wrestling. And as entertaining. So before you Rag on this odd guy... and he is odd... Remember this is at top of web site where you are telling him to speak truth on. "Don't clutter this up with facts and accurate information. Please, it's quite uncouth." OH and how many predictions have been wrong...  by that goofy space guy.. who just switches it up and  drops the call... but somehow  he is ok.  i think you would  be better served looking for big foot then going back and forth over art bell. Wanna bully some one. bully those guests who come on claiming to have CANCER CURES and then tell callers to look up cures on internet.. i think ive had enough cancer cure shows. tbh. mocking aliens, rods and shadows is one thing. but mocking dead folks and giving false hope to dying people is kinda sick.  Remember, "Don't clutter this up with facts and accurate information.    Shirley died too? Didn't know that. Jonestown had a lower mortality rate than Fantastic Forum.

It's good to see Art directly address his C2C decision. Just for the chance that some will finally abandon C2C and let George Nero, I mean, Noory bring the show to it's inevitable demise.

Thanks. Not sure how "back" I'm going to be though, still have a lot of stuff going on in my life, and until Art is in a position to tell us what exactly we're supposed to be "staying tuned" for, I'm just kind of done with the games and speculation. I remain hopeful, but I have other things to do.

As for Wells, attempting to explain what's wrong with him and why to his sycophants is pointless; it falls on their deaf, dull, deadened ears, because they already agree with him, so you can't get through to them. He's the worst of the worst, the bottom of the barrel, and even Noory isn't that bad. The one consistent thing about Noory is his mediocrity, so much that when he's even a LITTLE bit good, it stands out. Wells starts below the bottom, so even when he "rises up", he's still in the negative. I saw some speculation on the Wells thread that after his tirades on the Colorado shooting he was warned by someone higher up to tone it down. Maybe, and I hope so, but I doubt it. Seems like he's exactly the tool that PRN would want to back up Noory with.

But this is an Art thread, not a Wells thread, so I'm going to leave it at that....with one final note: this could be total coincidence and it probably is, but did you notice that Art's final and decisive statements on his separation from Coast have ONLY come in the wake of Wells' rise to prominence on the show? (And it sickens me that Wells constantly compares himself to Art on-air. ugh.)
